Movies, books, tv

She is so funny bulk. Just between worlds. The other day she got up an hour early to get ready. She put on a $140 lululemon top with pj pants from the five and below store. Then she spent an hour fixing her hair and putting on makeup. She was in her bathroom nearly an hour and a half. After she left I checked. Her toothbrush was bone dry. Didn’t brush her teeth.

Mess
Nothing like raising girls.
I have rebuffed my mom when she says something like, "I know how that is", when talking about the subject, referring to my sisters.
Uh, mom, you were a parent in the 70's in a small rural town. It's not even in the same universe as the 2000's in a city.
I'm proud of the job my wife and I did with our girls...and I'm not even sure what the hell we did, or I would write a book.

They don't, which is fine for me now. My daughter wears zero form fitting clothes. The most form fitting would be mom jeans or some such bullshit. I am completely fine with this and her 8x oversized hoodies.

So I don't complain when she asks for a Nirvana hoodie not knowing who the hell Kurt Cobain is.

But for today's 16 y/o boys......sucks to suck i guess.
I bet she wears leggings , but probably with big tops? What about in summer?

Dying laughing. Nirvana is making a killing on merch. Kids can’t name a song
Every time she asks for some band hoodie like Nirvana, Green Day, Grateful Dead, Pink Floyd I force her to sit down and listen to three songs.

She asks why? I tell her it's because I can't put that big of a POSER into the world. It's not right. She must know something.

To which she inquires only, what is a poser?

Yeah, forgot the leggings but those are so ubiquitous now...but no matter the hoodies go to their knees.

My favorite are the 8x oversized hoodie and running shorts. LIke, ARE YOU WEARING PANTS?

Side note, I love hearing you guys talk about your teen or close to teen daughters. I love girls that age and up. It’s why I adored working with the 18-21 year olds. I get them ( and not in the Matt Gaetz way). They are really fun to watch grow and change. And fun to see the world through their eyes.

I would have been a huge dick as the father of a boy. With daughters, I could be the lovable doofus who they were only slightly scared of...on occasion. I fostered that dynamic.

Everyone says they turn awful in the teen years and early 20s. I hope not.

There was about 1 1/2 years we really had to walk on eggshells around my older daughter when she was in high school...but around the second semester of her senior hear, I think she realized she was going away to college (not that far away, but still), and she began to miss us before the fact.
And the younger daughter...school was never her thing, and she discovered alcohol in college (or at least strengthened the friendship with it), and there were some nervous weeks prior to both high school and college graduations...but she made it and is a huge part of our life while the older one lives in Florida.

Teens are bad, but once they go away to college it usually changes. Most of my girls had really close good relationships with their dads. I think being on their own really helps.

I think that's pretty good in the grand scheme of things

Speaking of growing up in a small, rural town, there is a show on Fox called "Welcome to Flatch", which is a funny "The Office" documentary type show of a small-town in Ohio. It is totally mindless fun, and some of the jokes miss the target, but when it's on, it can be funny and sweet at the same time. My wife and I enjoy the jabs at small-town living because it does remind us of our hick upbringing. Seann William Scott plays a Unitarian minister, two younger actors play the main characters (dumb, but well-intentioned cousins), and in the second season, Jamie Pressly plays Barb Flatch, who moves back to town to recover her life.

All you had to write was “Jamie Presley is in it.”

Zeke, how many baby daddy's were there?

The first few episodes of My Name is Earl are some of the funniest shows ever.

None. It was interesting. Very few divorced families. I’m sure we’ll below statically norm. Probably a couple in every pledge class, so 2 or 3 out of 50 plus.

Sigh. I couldn't help myself.

I was talking about YOUR baby daddy's. I believe your wholesomeness has ruined my otherwise pristine and unassailable attempt at humor.

Back to 50 being the new 30 i do think there is some truth to it. On fridays when the weather is shitty i scan all the streaming services to see what new shows and movies are out that my broken family can watch together. i came across the four seasons. remember that old movie with alan alda and carol burnett? i turned it on. they were in their 40s in that movie. hell they could have been in their 60s by today's standard. brad is shopping for flatbills. lars is playing on a disc golf team with homebrewers. i stand by what i said: #50isthenew30

Hahaha. Sorry I kind of thought you didn’t really care about that.

I feel like your position is strongly influenced by your own age. You old head.

As it happens I played indoor last night against a bunch of 30 yr olds. So 50 is definitely not the new 30. Let’s call it 40. Hashtag it #50isthenew40. #noflatbills

Hey! Big Head Todd. Red Rocks. June 10!!! Let’s goooooooo!! Fake our youth for one weekend

PopRocks on SiriusXM. Only station I listen to in the car now. Feels like the 90s.

I walk to my office unless it's raining so I almost never listen to music. But Big Head Todd at Red Rocks. Monument in Green. Wow!! That's rollin back the clock right there. As close to 1993 as we'll ever get
I don't even like half the music. Gin Blossoms? No thanks. Spin Doctors? Never liked them. But it takes me back.

Hilarious. Love it. Spin Doctors are like nails on a chalkboard. But yes that nostalgia is the best. I had it all in the early 90s. I almost had it all for most of the 90s. Thereafter has spiraled

The wife and daughter are away for a weekend volleyball tournament so I decided to binge The Last Kingdom on Netflix. Not bad. They are trying to keep it historically accurate while also having some drama.

Here is a great podcast on Alfred and that period:

Have you been to a concert at Red Rocks? It was a bucket list finally checked off last year. Amazing venue.
