Hoping this is good. Stars Odenkirk. Based on novel by Richard Russo. Set on a college campus. Here’s hoping they don’t go woke:

Based partly on Russo’s time at Southern Illinois University. Odenkirk attended there for most of his college career.

My daughter and I went to see maverick. Not really a fan of going to the theatre anymore. Not sure why.
Maverick would not be good anywhere else. Saw the first Top Gun in Irvine California on the largest screen in the country at the time when it just came out. The girl I was dating mom was engaged to a pilot from Miramar who was totally cool. He would call us up (we had an office in Lajolla) and let us know when they would take off, fly over our office and wave rocking the wings. Cool stuff.

We have a Flix near us. Before Covid we went weekly, now it's hard to drag me to the theatre. We did see Maverick there though. It's not near as good at home.

Ohhh damn that's another story. Prolly the hottest brunette I ever dated. She was a model and her mom was way up the ladder with Macy's. We moved to Dallas together and then Denver and we went separate ways. Funny though about 10 years ago I found out she was in Indy. We caught up and reminisced about those days. Cali was cool back then. She still looks great and has an older son. I was in a big money business back then that you could never get away with these days and the fringe benefits were all good. ;)

Hahaha the movie...The phone made us a lot of $$$. Take the yacht away and everything else was close. Including, whatever car you wanted for the weekend from Mercedes, Beamers, Porsches, Harley's take your pick. The yayo choices going into the weekends? Straight from Miami or the Zona border take your pick.

Heres one for you...I was 22 in Reno Nevada (1982) working at Harrah's, just divorced. I see an ad in the paper.

Hello my name is stupid Bob. I make 1000 dollars a week. If you're half as stupid as me you can make 500.

I'm like wtf. I show up at this warehouse looking office complex, walk in the door and the girl at the front goes there is a guy here for the job. The door opens, a guy in an adidas sweatsuit smothered in gold chains and rings comes in and says come here. Pulls me into the bull pen where its loud, exciting, and everyone is on the phone pitching. See that guy over there? He makes a grand a week, See that guy he makes 1500 a week. See that guy over there he makes 2000 a week. There was blow out in the open and girls under a couple desks. NOT KIDDING. I listened for an hour and said sh!t I can do this. Next day I show up and made 250 in my first 6 hour shift, which was a lot of money for 82 and it was my first day. Game changer for me and the next 15 years of my life. Everyone always said you guys need to make a movie. Did we f*ck people like Wolf of Wall Street? NOPE everyone got shipped product and an award and other goodies.

Anyways, if we showed up in a city to open a phone room which we did all over the west coast and eventually back east, we would find the hottest bars, buy everyone drinks, and by the end of the night have a bunch of recruits ready to go to work and give it a try the next day.

Great Stuff!

That’s a good video. I read 74 books last year, but that includes books I listen to. I always have one going in the car and when I exercise. I can’t imagine not always having a book going. I don’t use my finger though!
I tried the finger thing last night. Found it uncomfortable unless i'm sitting at a desk. But, a chopstick? Gold, Jerry. Gold.

To be fair, this is a better movie.

Roadhouse and point break should not be allowed to have remakes. Ever. They are national treasures. The best of the Bs

Let It Ride
The Money Pit (Before Hanks and Long were really known)
The In laws

Ohhhh I have to check some of that out. Saw Lake Placid and Pumpkinhead. Gotta get after some of these others. I forgot about horror films. Jeepers Creepers.

Homegrown sounds awesome and the list of peeps looks cool.

So we picked up HBO for a few months on a freebie. I've been checking out some older movies. Anyone catch Little Miss Sunshine? LMAO funny. The horn haunts me daily and causes me to crack a grin.

Does Starship Troopers count? Cuz I love that one too.
The book is actually on my list to read. I've heard it's wildly divergent from the movie and much more of a cautionary tale regarding authoritarianism.

I haven't read the book since a decade starting with a 7, but it is definitely different. Both are very good in their own way, the movie is much more a popcorn fun movie. The book tries to tackle important social issues using science fiction, something great writers like Heinlein often did. So there are more discussions to be had around the book. Heinlein loved the concept of self-reliance, so yes, it is a cautionary tale on government.

@mcmurtry66, I'm here with the solution to any parenting of young girl problems you may experience.
You're welcome...

She is so funny bulk. Just between worlds. The other day she got up an hour early to get ready. She put on a $140 lululemon top with pj pants from the five and below store. Then she spent an hour fixing her hair and putting on makeup. She was in her bathroom nearly an hour and a half. After she left I checked. Her toothbrush was bone dry. Didn’t brush her teeth.

Mess

My daughter wears Ugg slippers with shorts. Fashion remains something I do not understand. Luckily these combinations have worked for my entire life for everyday use:

Jeans/t-shirt
Shorts/t-shirt
Jeans/Polo
Shorts/Polo
Pants/Polo
Jeans/Bottondown
Pants/Buttondown
Pants/Sweater or 1/4 zip

I don’t think these kids understand fashion either. I feel for the teachers. I couldn’t stand looking at them all day together

Rachel McAdams is now playing mom roles? Damn I'm old.

That looks like a great movie. I'm thinking my daughter might not go with me, though. How about my 12-year-old son?
If I remember correctly they’d probably both be embarrassed to go with you. I was forever traumatized about seeing a Burt Reynolds movie with my Dad in college on Dad’s weekend. Way too much sex talk. Maybe Longest Yard?

They don't, which is fine for me now. My daughter wears zero form fitting clothes. The most form fitting would be mom jeans or some such bullshit. I am completely fine with this and her 8x oversized hoodies.

So I don't complain when she asks for a Nirvana hoodie not knowing who the hell Kurt Cobain is.

But for today's 16 y/o boys......sucks to suck i guess.

I took my daughter to Jumanji (the new Rock one) back in 2017. She was 11. One of the characters becomes a man as she transports through the game or whatever. There is a discussion or peeing which is both hilarious and horrifying when you're sitting next to your 11 y/o daughter. I laughed. She laughed.

Thank God.

Uggs can be worn with anything! Slippers or boots! And they have been popular for about 20 years. I don’t think they will ever go out of style. I do love mine!!

Dying laughing. Nirvana is making a killing on merch. Kids can’t name a song
