Lebron is top 5 all time for sure... I might even put him top 3 behind MJ and Kareem, with a strong case that he might be #2.
Kobe is an all time great, but he's right on the cuff of the top 10. I could make arguments for him being just on the outside of top 10, but he's hovering around there, IMO.
While the neck beard in the OG photo is impressive, he'd really struggle to stand out in today's modern game.Actually, we should be asking these questions of Marv about another sport near and dear to his heart.

Lebron brings the disrespect onto himself. His ego vastly exceeded Jordan’s or Kobe’s or Kareem’s or Magic’s. He’s the most arrogant athlete on the planet. I defended him when he was a kid and said stupid things but now that he’s older and knows better - there’s no excuse anymore.
He’s also the first superstar NBA Player to flop and whine to the refs to the degree he does. Super unlikable guy. But agreed the talent is tremendous.
The other thing I’ll say to discount him is that there have been - in his career - very few players that had the physical ability to defend him. His size and athleticism let him play a different game than all the others. It’s also why I can’t put Kareem at the top - he was virtually unguardable. He’d be smothered in today’s game.

Hard disagree about the ego thing. Jordan and Kobe both have/had utterly massive egos. And both whined like crazy when they felt a call didn't go their way. Seems like maybe some recency bias there.
I do agree that Lebron's size and speed combination is what makes him unique. And in comparison to Jordan and Kobe, he's a much more team-oriented player. IMHO, he has long seen it as his responsibility to elevate the play of his teammates with his own play in ways that Jordan and Kobe were never interested in. Lebron is much more comparable to Magic while Kobe really modeled himself after Jordan.
Hard disagree with the "brings disrespect into himself" thing, too. IMHO, a lot of it is centered on Lebron not fitting neatly into the box that most people would like him to. I guess it just depends on what you admire in your athletes.
I’m 46 and have watched hundreds of Jordan games. Granted, I was overseas for much of prime Kobe. You’re just flat out wrong on Jordan whining to the refs about calls compared to LeBron. Like different stratosphere wrong. And the flopping is completely unforgivable of a supposed GOAT.
Mj and Messi are without compare. In addition to an absolute viciousness that both possessed, there’s a skill-fullness, grace, style, something aesthetic about how both played that is incomparable. An eye test that is just different. An unmatched beauty to their games. Ali had it. Tiger too. My Mount Rushmore
Have to agree to disagree. Jordan was as insufferable as anyone with refs. The idea that Jordan and the 90's were some shut up and just play heaven are hilarious. Jordan was infamous for blistering and trying to intimidate refs.
I disagree, Jordan has as much athletic ability as the best today and he has a refuse to lose attitude that others don’t have today.
