I mean, if you're going to dislike Lebron because you find him to be an unprincipled POS in relation to making money off of China, you must absolutely loathe Jordan. The difference between Jordan and Lebron on this note is that Jordan notably doesn't engage about politics and Lebron does tons of notable charity work.

Jordan has nothing to do, one way or the other, with my dislike of Lebron James. If you can't see that my issue is the hypocrisy as it relates to basic human rights, I'm not sure how much clearer I can make the point.
I don't think that makes him all that unique. You just described a huge percentage of wildly successful people. The Venn Diagram for people who are massively successful at something and also embrace the virtue of knowing what you know is a preciously thin slice.
People who are successful at one thing very often think that they have some magical insight into a myriad of other things they know nothing about. Whether it is businessmen who think they have special insight into public policy, actors/athletes thinking people should listen to their opinions about international relations or politicians who think they know how to execute military strategy, we see this a lot in the political realm all the time (but it's true across lots of disciplines).
I'm sure that Lebron wishes that people would shut up about how they know just how to fix the Lakers as much as most people wish he would shut up about politics. 🤣

Understood and agree. But his words are held in regard by his disciples and admirers and they were dangerously wrong about Hong Kong and against a hero cop. That matters. It might not to you, but it should.

Most of Mike's shortcomings were hidden from sight by not coming-of-age in the social media era, but that doesn't mean that they aren't there in abundance. I agree that Lebron got those two wrong. The VERY limited interaction I've had is a thoughtful and shockingly regular guy, but it'd be nice to have the conversation with him to see if he recognizes it or offers a thoughtful explanation for why there's more to it than we think.
Mike was also a notoriously private guy which is the approach I’d take if I got suddenly famous And rich. I don’t blame LeBron for basking in the lime light but he should not put his thumbprint on issues he doesn’t understand. He shouldn’t force a franchise to draft his obviously-not-ready son And he shouldn’t think of himself as a thought leader on anything other than ball or branding. But his ego will not allow that containment.
Is he a scumbag? I don’t think so. But I get pretty peeved at the deification people bestow on him when they haven’t even seen his social “justice” commentary.
This...Larry Bird would kill it in today's NBA. He could be a guy to average a triple double in this NBA era. Those two above have similar but lesser game and play in an era where defense isn't nearly as valued. Bird played in an ERA where guys beat the shit out of each other in the paint, literally threw down on the semi-regular and he still was top at his position. Some guys just have "it" and that "it" doesn't have to include athletic dominance. Jordan? Fuhgetaboutit...he would average 40 plus another combined 15 (+/- 5) boards/assists/blocks/steals.
I agree.... If I were drafting and all the players mentioned above were available in their prime and I got first choice I would pick Jordan. He was so darn quick that nobody could guard him.

This guy sums it up better than I could. Lebron is a great ball player and gifted businessman but his social commentary is appalling. He’s not smart on meaningful issues - but his success has gone to his head and he now thinks he’s really smart.
Would you hang out with a guy who posts photos of himself walking into work with a glass of wine or sitting at his bench “reading” page 1 of a book? How about one who forces his employer to hire his incompetent son?

To be honest, I never really pay attention to Lebron's politics. I know where he stands on social issues, but I don't follow his tweets regularly. Holding him accountable for things he removed and/or apologized for is a pretty high standard. No one ever claimed Lebron is perfect.
