Louisville is probably more talented than IU

All season. Every season. Maybe my bar is too high though. No biggie, I'll still root my team on through thick and thin.
We won't be ranked once we get in the meat of the schedule, but as long as we are improving I'm happy.

Your bar is perfectly fine and we're going to get there.

I don't see us missing many, if any NCAA tournaments for the next 25 years. I really don't.

Second year of a rebuild (and it was a rebuild) and we're currently 8-2, ranked #24 in Pomeroy and would be a disappointment if we missed the tournament.

Then we bring in another top recruiting class on top of last year's recruiting class and bam...the train is rolling.

Just look at what his brother has done. Many people swear Archie is better than Sean (and that was when he was at Dayton).

I would bet we get to that #15 to #20 range by the end of the year. We'll see.

Pomeroy isn't fully connected* yet. Sagarin should very close. It used to be 2nd/3rd week of Dec for Sagarin, and 1st/2nd week of Jan for Kenpom on average. With each week being more and more based on data and less and less on the placeholder rankings. So we can now start taking Kenpom and Sagarin seriously ..

*Both system use place holder rankings until they have enough data. I'd say Kenpom is 85/90% complete, and will be fully data driven by last week of Dec and Sagarin is probably close to 99% or fully connected since the season started two weeks earlier. .

We were 17th in Sagarin before this win, and Louisville was 21st. We only won by 1 so, neither team will move much.

"Neither team will move much"
Is this because it was at IU and they include a margin for home games?
If it was at UL and we won by one, how would that have changed things?

Yup ... we didn't cover Sagarin's spread, and may even slip a spot but nothing drastic. We would go up if we won by one at their place. Plus the wins and losses of all our opponents and their opponents are part of the formula.

I'm not in your argument but I do want to mention that Arkansas' post player is as good as any in the country and freshman Isiah Joe went for 34 last week. They are a solid club.
Yep.

BTW, WKU beat Arkansas today, at Arkansas . . . by one point.

True...but Marquette just beat Wisconsin so maybe it balances out.

And of course Louisville beat Michigan State and Seton Hall...who just beat Kentucky.

Penn State is the one to watch. If they can pull off some good wins that makes that road win much more impressive, something #15 Virgina Tech couldn't do.

Gl with that.
Penn st looked like garbage, atleast when we played them.
Bottom of the big ten barrel

?? Is that a dig? how'd I ruffle your feathers? I don't follow.

Definitely. With this comment in specific response to one of my adoring fans:

click on the ignorant user that you want to ignore (it's name on the left under it's pic). When the new window pops up, in the upper right hand corner there is a little word "Ignore" click on it.

This feature helps you to deal with ignorance.

Really liked the time-out where they provided a listen-in on both Coaches speaking to the Players - never recall TC being remotely that specific in addressing the Team in-game, and was pretty clear Miller and Mack are both serious tacticians. And the 'sixth man' definitely came through down the stretch...
Never recall hearing a Tom Crean huddle in last few minutes, or a Bob Knight, or a Mike Davis, or a Kelvin Sampson. Go forward, Hoosiers.

I know you think you run this board but my gosh, are you ok? Mentally, I mean.

His post was fine and then you respond with such snark. As always when a rational, yet critical, post is made.

You are the police around here. DO NOT CRITICIZE IU WHEN CRITICISM IS DUE! MR. RIKKI COMIN FOR YOU!

Indiana is not a very good team. Why can’t you come to terms with that? It’s ok. That’s not an attack on you or your Alma mater. It’s just a fact.

Louisville happens to be a pretty good team. A team that just took Indiana to the wire on Branch McCracken court. And happens to be bringing in an amazing class, better than Indiana’s. That’s ok

Something is not a fact just because you say it is so. Your egocentric post shares opinions only. It is a fact that IU won a hard fought game. Your beloved cards left with an L. Saying that IU is not a very good team is an opinion that is losing credibility as they get healthy and the program moves forward under Archie. That's ok too.

Beloved Cards? I’m an Indiana fan and have been my entire life. I went to Indiana, my dad went to Indiana, and most of my siblings went to Indiana. Grew up in a house where if Indiana lost, everyone was in a bad mood.

That being said, being a fanboy never helps anyone. I’m all for positivity and enthusiasm but objective criticism is necessary. And pretty rikki doesn’t allow that on his watch.

Haha of course it’s my opinion! I never declared anything as fact. But you can certainly argue that Indiana is not a VERY good team more easily than you could argue they are.

Additionally, of course it’s ok that Indiana is getting healthy! That’s why it also makes it ok that they’re not very good right now.

Who is trying to be the police of this board? Don’t be such a hypocrite. What does “not a VERY good team” mean to you? Top 10? Top 50? Top 100? It’s a subjective statement that is up for interpretation. If someone disagrees with you based on their interpretation don’t cry about it, just try to be more clear in your posts.

I believe I did make it very clear. Check again.

Having an issue with how he and others try and stifle any criticism is hypocritical? Huh, interesting.

don't look now but kelvin is building a monster down in houston. he'll be getting a bigger gig next season. let's just hope it's not in the big ten

Diving into a player in a legal defensive position is not a foul. College refs choke that call too often.
that guard drove his shoulder into phinisee before leaning back for the short jumper. should have been an offensive foul. terrible call. but what was langford thinking getting called on the 3 point shooter with 2.2 secs? romeo should have just started walking towards the locker room when that player started to shoot. by the time the ball came down the game would have been over. big dummy

For almost anyone speaking English, "not very good" without context signifies 'lousy, poor, sub-standard, below average, crappy', etc. - not 'less than elite' as you disingenuously infer. Haven't seen many/any posts extolling IU's fine and amazing play, and certainly haven't penned any myself. As for "objective criticism", your consistent and poorly qualified dismissals of the Team without regard for or acknowledgment of youth, injuries and lack of experience mark you as one of the last people on this Board anyone would look to for objectivity.

All you've shown since signing up three months back is petulant and uniformed rancor because IU has failed to perform up to your naive and unrealistic standards in the face of challenges that would have many programs (including this one a couple years back) reeling and probably flirting with a 50/50 won-loss record.

objective - not influenced by personal feelings or opinions in considering and representing facts

Cursory review of your brief posting history shows you to be anything but. Criticize IU all you want, but show some regard for the intelligence of other posters by manifesting some of your own - all you've done so far is whine.

Whatever you say, pal. Still doesn’t change the fact that you are always the first one in line to defend medicrity. And my time on this board doesn’t mean a dang thing.

I’ll continue to watch for those even slightly negative posts that you cut down immediately. Can’t wait.

We are ranked, currently #24.

Oh you mean ranked by 60 year old fat sports writers.

We're not great, no one is arguing that. We're pretty good and should get better as the season goes if history is a guide with Archie.
Louisville was 24 on the net and IU was 23 before the game. Both will change

Wouldn't be the first time.

If you're going to certify that Louisville is more talented perhaps you care to explain the final score. The Cardinals have bigger, older more experienced players - if they had more "talent" as well seems they should have won.
It depends on how you measure talent. They certainly have some good players. Maybe they do have more talent. We won. That’s what I care about.

We have more players on the Wooden list. We have more players named preseason all conference. We have as many 5 stars. We have far more 4 stars. We have more preseason All-americans. We have players with better stats. We have more players on pro draft boards. We have better talent.

But, like you said, who cares. Talented teams fail all the time, look at UK this year. Look at Oregon.

Well coached, smart and tough to beat, is what I want.
