Is it time to stick a fork in DeSantis?

That's all I'm saying. I'm not saying every job needs a raise. It's the lack of respect that bothers me. I don't like it when people dismiss jobs as "starter" jobs or "retirement" jobs. Some people are happy in that role and take that shit seriously, and they deserve respect.

I'm just a delivery boy. That said, me and the other delivery people are the people our customers deal with face to face on a daily basis. Owners/managers need to take that into account. Same goes for servers, tellers, cashiers, etc. The people who interface with the public the most are the lowest on the ladder. They need to be taken care of.

A job is a job, whether it makes you rich or not, and if we are going to try to take capitalism seriously, then we need to respect people doing jobs. Any jobs.
That really doesn't fit with most of your posts and people that post like you do. No one looks down more on people in general than the liberals on here. I am just curious about you because at times I can actually agree. When I do eat out unless the server is horrid I say thank you everytime my water is filled, any service . Usually my friends are semi-oblivious . I have had a few bad ones over yrs and I still say thanks my tip will change to a degree. When I am at an auction and people are loading I always lend a hand barring something ridiculously dirty or too much to do with out a forklift. Usually in my experience it comes back around when I need a hand

I delivered pizza and I then managed the pizza delivery cadre in my last job while waiting for my slot at Navy OCS. I cared about myself when I delivered and about the others when I was out in charge of delivery (and I still delivered too). Why do you think you aren’t valued adequately? I never did. I’m sure I made much less.

I'm not complaining about my situation. Just saying that people doing the kind of work I'm doing are a lot more important than many give them credit for.

I can't understand why DeSantis continues to harass his state's largest single-site employer (463,000 jobs), one of the top tourist attractions in the world that has a $75 billion annual impact for Central Florida and produces nearly $6 billion in additional state tax revenue.

Last summer he vetoed $35 million in state funding for the Tampa Bay Rays after they had the audacity to tweet about gun violence following the Uvalde massacre.

Guy seems vindictive as hell. Is he not playing with a full deck? Does he really want to be president?

It was joke. Stop reading propaganda.

DeSantis' polling sucks. He isn't gaining traction. And while his abortion law may do good in the primary, who thinks it is a winner in the general?

Trump is also winning the endorsement game, 9 Senators to 0. 48 US Reps to 8. 8 Reps from Florida to 1. And 2 governors to 0 (assuming we don't count DeSantis endorsing himself).

And now the news on the Florida insurance crisis is getting even worse.

Maybe Haley can sneak out from the non-Trump lane and win. A year ago it seemed Mc was right, Trump was in trouble. But right now he seems a teflon Don.

The Georgia indictment will be his undoing . . . that and Brian Kemp.

Why would the Dems move to the middle? Assuming Trump wins the nomination it will because he was further right of DeSantis. The Democrats have 0 incentive to move to the middle in that scenario. If I were the Democrats I'd just rerun 2020 campaign.

Also, what makes the posts about DeSantis being to mean silly, is he has to beat Trump. He isn't going to beat Trump by moving to the middle, backing down from Disney, or allowing liberals get what they want.

In March of 2007, Rudy Giuliani was at about 45% in polls, and led McCain by 25 points.

Yes, but Rudy was new to the national spotlight. Those voters saying Trump today know every wart on his body.

Go read the Selzer poll in Iowa. Trump is often the default choice for people in national polls this early in the race, just like Rudy was back then. Rudy led the polls for like a year.... until he didn't.

National polls... particularly this early, are irrelevant in Presidential primaries. Let's see how Iowa, NH, SC, etc go. Florida will also be a very early primary.

I disagree with this premise. It'll be because Trump has catered to an authoritarian streak in GOP populism.
However you want to classify it, DeSantis has to beat Trump first. He isn't going to do that by moving to the middle or always holding positions that liberals or moderates like.

I’d even say that those jobs that interact with the public are often some of the challenging.

DeSantis' ongoing, well-documented vendetta against Disney (and others who dare to cross him) is just a joke?

You need to read more. You're embarrassingly uninformed.
No, I was referring to the article you posted. He's not really going to build a prison, it was just a joke. You can rest easy now.

I could see the dim's running joe again. Come Jan 2025 inauguration day, joe is on ice some where and "he" sends Jill up to the hill to take his oath of office. Jill comes down, wearing joe's crown who has "called the ceiling" for the next 4 yrs. And no one will ever know.

It was a stupid remark and it affirmed his fascist tone, joke or no joke.

The whole press conference was how he was going to use whatever governmental power he has for revenge against a specific private company. It's targeted revenge and the whole thing has been targeted revenge. That's the big F word.

Desantis just legalized open carry while lowering the abortion timeline to six weeks. Add to it his campaign to make life as hard as he can make it on the LGBTQ community and the only thing left for him to complete his failure is to do some anti climate stunt like ban the sale of EV's.

He's on the polar opposite side of the main interests of the overwhelming majority of the country, particularly the youth (abortion, guns, gays and climate).

Stick a fork in him.

FYI here is what the generational groups look like from the last census. Keep in mind gen z and millennials currently voted D around 65 to 70% in the mid terms. Also notice there is an avalanche of gen z coming in behind us all. Right now millennials and gen z make up over half the population. Each year that market share grows.

Good luck with your culture war.

He’s an extremely popular Governor who passed a popular piece of legislation in his state. Disney and MSM tried to bully him out of it and were unsuccessful. DeSantis told Disney to get bent and they lost their sweetheart deal. If I’m being honest, it’s really not that big of deal. It’s how governments work. I understand why liberals are upset. You’re use to Republicans folding and getting your way.

lol…he hasn’t even said he is running yet.

I was young once and voted for Democrats. Then I grew up and stopped voting for Democrats. There will be plenty of Gen Z that do the same. Not to mention, Democrat policies don’t align well with high debt, inflation, and etc. Everyone loves free government, but not so much when you have to pay for it. There is a reason Reagan carried almost every state.

His whole culture war stick is modeled after what Orban did to Hungary. You saying 'calm down' or 'its not a big deal' or 'you're overreacting' are things you never should say in politics. It's a bad defense mechanism to try to emote feels.

He gerrymandered the living shit out of Florida. The republican legislature even said it possibly violated Florida election laws but Desantis rammed it through. Rubio beat Demings by what, 17 points because of it and it turned the legislature branch into a super majority. Again, the Orban playbook.

I was young also. Millennials are now into their 40's and they voted overwhelmingly dem.

Again what is the position on Abortion, Guns, Gays and Climate? Desantis is on the overwhelming opposite side and he's codified it in Florida.

So no, you can't say 'he's just joking' or 'I think he'll come back to the middle of he beats Trump'.

No going back now. It's law.

Done.

Guns gays and climate? Really? I trust more care about inflation gas and crime. Desantis’ overwhelming success isn’t a product of gerrymandering it’s him. He’s a competent gov who flipped Hispanics and has the state thriving. That said I’m not a fan of his culture shit but I couldn’t disagree with you more

It's the culture shit that will get all the play in a national race though, from both those who back him and those who don't.

DeSantis really doesn't have a prayer on a national stage. The 6 wk abortion ban was the nail in his POTUS coffin and now him picking a short man's fight to try and gang up on Mickey Mouse is insurance. Forget the Fascist Lite title... that would be more complimentary than where he finds himself now. His political look and strut is best described as a Rick-Moranis-I-Am-The-Keymaster flex thinking Florida is the Gatekeeper to a national election.

He's in a weird league of his own that won't even remotely appeal on a national stage, and even Trump knows it. So long to the Floridian Naploean... we hardly knew ye.

If the Republican Top 2 are Trump and DeSantis for 2024, go ahead and offer early congratulations to Dems now.

Rubio beat Demings because of gerrymandering?

Interesting

Depends on inflation economy etc. but maybe.
It's all about the messaging anymore. Competence and experience aren't much of a factor. If it did you'd have people like Huntsman and Holcombe in the conversation.

Hey where the f has he been?

His state is underwater and in crisis and he's nowhere to be found right!!!??!! Lol

I'm sure you are more concerned about those things but you're not gen z or a millennial (okay maybe a millennial?).

Is fiscal responsibility the big thing now? Please point to me examples of republican fiduciary responsibility in the past 30 years. Our deficit was blown to smithereens by Bush and Trump. Where was this 'concern' then? It didn't exist.

You don't know that Desantis gerrymandered the living hell out of Florida? Cmon. Even the Republican legislature thought it was obnoxious.

Central American Latinos have always been attracted to strongmen, particularly those that campaign against imperialism (the govt is opportunistic and evil and only I can keep it under control) so it's not really a stretch to see that central American Latinos are going to be attracted to an anti govt strong man.

Surely we can see a connection with Desantis's rhetoric.
