Is it time to stick a fork in DeSantis?

Love this quote.

DeSantis needs to lighten up and be a “Happy Warrior”, and show a personality and smile occasionally if he wants to play in the big leagues.

I'll be out on DeSantis if he doesn't walk back his stance on Ukraine. Well, I should say even more out, since I rank him second to last among the announced candidates and I don't expect that to change as others announce. I don't concur with Trump or DeSantis on this issue. Haley is my choice at this point.

You ****ing neocons man. DeSantis said nothing of abandoning Ukraine. He simply said there needs to be a rational end state and steps taken to get us there, and that blank checks are unacceptable.

Ukraine reclaiming the Donbas and Crimea is not rational.

But that is the Ukranian position and I have not heard any serious U.S. opposition to that, which is ridiculous since there is no way this conflict ends with those territories in Ukranian hands.

Go vote for Biden again because DeSantis isn’t willing to start WW3 over the Donbas. What a Republican you are.

He has zero charisma. Which is a detriment to him because most people are dumb and need to be entertained.

Boring, practical and effective doesn’t sell.

If Ukraine came out against his don't say gay bill, then he would likely be supplying putin with weapons lol

The Parental Rights in Education Act prohibits classroom discussion or instruction on gender identity or sexual orientation for grades K-3. It is supported by 60%+ of Floridians.

What is it that you feel we should be teaching six year olds about gender identity?

I doubt any teachers were teaching the kids anything inappropriate. Now you have books being banned that were hardly an issue and weren't even about gender identity.

It was nothing but political gamesmanship to appeal to the anti-woke hysteria. And going after Disney because a former CEO used his 1st amendment rights is beyond scary. That is top level dictator shit right there.

Now Fidel Jr is working on having a state controlled army for himself. Wonder if he has arm bands ordered for his troops? He probably has collected enough woke books for a huge bonfire.

And yet it’s the fastest growing state in America. Registered more new biz than any other too. Hmmmm

No, most people need to see depth in a candidate outside his one truck pony of “woke” bullshit, He’ll get the nomination with that, and 100% of the dumbass vote, but not the Presidency.

Is that why you voted for Biden? Because he is deep? The guy that’s been trotting out the same dishonest one liners for 40 years? “Are the deers wearing Kevlar vests?”, “I saw two gay men in suits making out on a street corner in 1959 Stanton, PA? “I was raised in a Puerto Rican Community.”

Are you easily duped? Or do you discriminate against the one trick ponies you’ll buy in to?

Well he just won re-election by historical margins in FL. So wouldn't underestimate

I'd prefer someone like Chris Sununu... but it's difficult for a "normal" candidate to get traction in the carnival age of modern GOP politics

I line Sununu, but he has no chance. I’d actually vote for him or Haley over Biden. I would vote for Matt Painter over Trump. I’d be open to DeSantis if he’d grow up.

You're being very generous about what DeSantis said.

Yes, I'm a Republican and I want to vote for a Republican. Trump isn't and DeSantis is trying too hard to be Trump-lite for me to be good with him.

I’m sure he is. DeSantis is a smart guy, and will probably ride this angry, woke focused act to the nomination. I hope he then pivots to a more mature message with an economic plan and a foreign policy that puts America’s interest first, which doesn’t include cozying up to dictators. Stand up to dictators.

I haven’t been paying close attention to the early shadow campaigns yet, but all I hear from him is woke, woke, woke, and I didn’t like DeSantis’ answer to the Ukraine question, but did like Haley’s plan to make social security solvent. And she’s an old school Reaganite on foreign policy, which I like.

Again, DeSantis is a smart guy so he’ll probably pivot to more expansive messaging, if he wins the nomination. If he doesn’t, he won’t win the presidency.

Has he posted since that egg iu dropped last night?
Cosmic or Stoll? Stoll started a thread on the b-ball board where a lot of fans are in meltdown mode. It’s understandable since we’ve had very limited success in recent times for being a blue blood. Fans at a school like IU shouldn’t have to wait as long as we have to break through to final four, or natty. That said, I think IU got about as much out of this team as one should expect, with the roster construction.

The first B1G coach to figure out that you win these days with speed, length, athleticism, and shooting at all positions will dominate the league. I won’t hold my breath.

There’s something fundamentally flawed with the program. They have too big of a following, too big of a budget, to be just an average program over the last twenty years. TJD masked the marked difference in how much more athletic (quicker etc) Miami was. Why doesn’t iu have those kids. No one cares about Miami hoops. They probably draw 3500 a game. Some night nights less

He didn't cozy up to a dictator. He said that our support for Ukraine should have limits and an achievable end goal. At a certain point we have to realistically look at what "vital interests" are. He said he supported Ukraine to a point. You know what this week marks? 20 years since we started the campaign to overthrow Saddam.

There is a segment of the GOP that is always hawkish. I know, I can be one. It is weird seeing Democrats get all Gung ho about it again. I don't think anyone is paying attention to what is going on in the world. I think Russia and China are clearly the bad guys. I think we should move to make sure Ukraine can defend itself. We also need to look at how that impacts our ability to defend ourselves and also take note that a whole bunch of people around the world haven't jumped in to support things like the economic sanctions on Russia.

As to the "woke" stuff. It pisses a bunch of people off. It is a-okay for the Democrats to have a parade of wokeity-woke BS (like the Drag Story Hour in NY this weekend supported by the DA and Mayor) but heaven forbid those of us who disagree with it also make that a political issue. One issue of many.

He isn't going to pivot from that. He will add to it, but that is going to be a part of the message.

One of the surprising twists I didn't see coming was the Twitter venom from MAGA in regards to Desantis's silence.

Then today he put out a pretty terrible statement that basically pissed off everyone but his staunchest fans (mentioned Soros conspiracy idiocy trying to own the libs and made jabs at Trump paying off a porn star). After several days of silence, that was what he came up with?

Anyway I figured the whining would go towards the "deep state witch hunt" (by the same dudes that chanted lock her up fwiw)....I didn't anticipate the amount of venom spewing on Desantis (although I should have because with these dudes if you don't fall in line and act exactly how they think you should act.... you're a disloyal traitor).

It's not like we weren't witnesses during the Knight years and saw just how quickly a friend turns into a disloyal enemy.

Yep. It’s the tradition of the rough and tumble Big Ten and the recruiting base.

For instance, Purdue can dominate the league because they’re competing against like minded teams. Get in the tournament and it’s a whole different game. The football schools are doing well these days because they recruit long, fast, athletic players, then develop their skill and on court IQ with good player development coaches. Crean and Beilein did this well when they were in the league, but Crean couldn’t coach in games very well. He was a pretty good recruiter and excellent at player development, though.

Woody didn't want to come in and run a bunch of guys off with him being an unknown commodity. I bet we see roster moves this summer that we haven't done the past 2.

Didn't he say Ukraine was a territorial dispute?

That is pretty offensive to those that support Ukraine who is fighting off a violent takeover from an authoritarian.

So yeah, not cozying up to dictators but not standing up to them either.

Same thing with the woke stuff...he isn't making it part of political talking points....he's actively trying to codify the punishment for what is thought to be 'woke'.

It's the Orban playbook. Big government to push and punish a culture war.

Everything he's done is tracing Orban.

Fair enough. I don’t agree with 90% of “woke” stuff, but don’t consider it that big a deal. Maybe I should, but for now I just roll my eyes when I constantly hear it from a politician. If DeSantis wants to prioritize anti-woke stuff as President, go for it. But please be president of all the people, and have a deep grasp of all the issues facing the country.

Btw, I’m a democrat that’s always been for a strong national defense. “Hawk” is probably the wrong word as I believe in the “speak softly but carry a big stick” foreign policy, not invading other countries for empire building.

Woody should hire Crean to be his recruiting coordinator. I think he's available.

Seriously, I like Springsteen - mostly his early stuff. But damn, he's idolized as some kind of god. It's the East Coast bias - if he was from anywhere else, he'd be just another Huey Lewis.

Probably. But most people who say “one hit wonder”, are referring to the song Born in the USA. That’s not even a top 50 Bruce song, if that.
The notion that he’s a one hit wonder is ridiculous. I’ll be seeing him and the E Street band for the third time in September. Saw him once without the E Street band too, but no concert I’ve been to has been as good as Bruce and the band.

He isn't really my cup of tea. He has some alright stuff but I think he is mostly popular among people about a decade older than me. If you graduated HS in the mid to late 80's, I can see Bruce being your guy.

Music taste is all subjective though. Most rock music is like 3 chords so you generally aren't judging them on some deep music talent, it is mostly just what speaks to you or what memories it evokes for you.
