Rick leaving UL is going to happen sometime after the season. My serious question to the IU fanbase is would you be interested in hiring him if Tom Crean is gone as well at the end of this season. I'm a UK fan but I'm not trying to flame on this board, I would just be curious as to your take on him.

RP can coach. RP can recruit. RP can win big games. And RP can sustain having a highly successful program from year to year. So, based on the preceding criteria he is an attractive candidate.

RP has demonstrated questionable personal values. UL is suffering from a scandal that is a total embarrassment to the team, the athletic department, the school and UL fans. RP either knew of and was complicit in these activities or he should have known of them. Despite this, I think some schools will want him as head coach. I do not think IU will be one of them.

If you would have asked me this 10 years ago I would have said yes but not now.

That would have been my exact answer as well. Rick has a lot of pluses and minuses and considering he's in the twilight of his career I'd go a different direction at a big name school like IU or UK. I don't think however he will stop coaching after leaving UL.

A big resounding no for me. I don't care if he had nothing to do with the UL situation. I would rather roll the dice on an up and coming young coach.

Good question & I agree with IU Scott. If it was 10 years ago absolutely, not now.

Yeah after the Sampson fiasco iu will hire a sleazy guy with a prostitution scandal. Give me a break as it was a really dumb question.

I don't think it was a dumb question at all.

IMHO, the poster, who I feel is not intimately familiar with the opinions of posters on this board, asked a sincere question and I hope I answered it that way.

If am wrong about the poster, or if he is a troll, we will probably soon discover that and I will admit I was wrong about him. Until that happens, I'll try to give him some respect.

Is this because IU has made three incredibly tremendous hires the last 3 coaches. Please explain your holier than thou thoughts on the great IU.

no.. give me archie miller or one of the duke boys(Collins or Hurley)..in retrospect pitino should've been hired when IU hired crean and alford should've been hired when davis was retained(alford ship has sailed). hindsight is 20/20.

First I think he is to old and secondly he seems to be having more off the court problems then he ever did before.
I get the age thing and agree. Otherwise, he's the same guy today that he was 10, 20, 30 years ago. Some like him and find him very ethical, while others believe he plays through the whistle.

I do agree with the original assertion that he's in the stretch run at UL, and that he'll be asked to step down when the season ends. I don't think he knew anything about this stuff (he didn't need the dubious advantage that was created), but it happened under his watch, so he'll be out.

Actually Pitino would have been available if we had fired Davis a year earlier than we did.

Tthe situation at Louisville is different than many of the usual scandals.....in that there is potentially criminal activity involved. Prostitution is illegal. That stubborn fact provides a separate legal challenge for the university overall than simple "cheating". Consider the Penn St. football situation.

Entirely different facts...but one common denominator: criminality. Don't bother comparing severity or facts...that is not the point...simply that Penn State was forced to deal with civil and criminal activity in the course of processing a difficult NCAA review.. Louisville, on a much different level...could be required to do that too. University employees could be implicated and/or indicted. Might be misdemeanors...but who knows?

I know someone is going to react this way: What??? Comparing pedophilia to prostitution...what nonsense!!! Even though that isn't the case...lets have it...3...2...1......

I didn't mean to insult you by the question. I just know the IU fan base is passionate about their basketball and Rick has became somewhat of a polarizing figure. I agree with one of the other posters that a school like UNLV will be his next stop.

It's not really about the illegality of prostitution, nor is it comparable to PSU. The University of Colorado had a similar issue over a decade ago involving escorts and recruits, and no one related to the University was prosecuted or even threatened with that. As for PSU, the NCAA didn't review anything . . . they mistakenly used the train wreck known as the Freeh Report to guide them over the cliff and cement Mark Emmertt as an idiot extraordinaire. The staff member at ULmight be in trouble with the cops, but that's likely it, and it won't be a big deal. The damage is reputational, which is why Pitino will ultimately get pushed out.

as is often the case....the cover-up is worse than the crime...but a cover-up can be a crime too.
One thing I will agree with...Pitino will ultimately be gone. He either jumps or he gets pushed.

Bigger concern for me would be who Louisville hires to replace him. Lets hope they don't get Stevens or Marshall before Glass makes a move. My gut would tell me Glass will let that exact thing happen before he made a move.

I could envision Pitino ending up at a Temple or a DePaul.....maybe Cincinatti.....but the elite programs won't touch him...nor would even say an Oklahoma State. The oil slick is just too much.

I don't think Stevens is going anywhere but if he did I don't see it for UL

They'll pay top dollar for not only an elite coach but also someone who has impeccable character and who will lay down the law to anyone whose actions could jeopardize the program. There will be plenty of qualified candidates.

After the fiasco with Sampson iu has to stay 1000 miles away from any coach even remotely involved in a scandal or the NCAA will be back sniffing around and looking to put the hammer down.

A UK fan not trying to flame an IU board... like anyone would ever believe that claim. Try harder on another board.

No way i take pitino.he will recruit rapist, thugs he cares not what a kid's character is never has i still remember the punk kid at UK dancing on the floor after beating IU

Pitino is like the hot chick in high school but 10 years later after 3 kids, smoking meth, and gaining 40 pounds he just doesn't look that attractive anymore and is somewhat repulsive

Ricky is as sleazy as Calipari.

No thanks.

I say get him if we can. He will want to show he is clean and has 5 years left. In those 5 years, he will have us top 10-15 and when he is done Stevens will be ready to come back to college. Perfect scenario
