Even the two times that the Patriots missed the playoffs in 15 years (on tiebreakers, when they tied for 1st in the division, based on record) they were in contention when game 16 began, THEN they even won the game, and then were eliminated after their game was over.

It's great that they were all so confident they were going to win that they framed the argument all week that this game was about which quarterback could get it done and which one would choke. Nevermind they knew the scenario was rigged in their favor given Manning's health.
Then it all blew up spectacularly in their faces as both D's played great, but Brady choked the game away.
They put all their eggs in one basket and choked away the argument forever that Brady is clutch in the playoffs and Manning isn't. It was the last, desperate thread they were grasping to in the Brady v. Manning debate.
