Goat's POLS Thread for Mature Adults

Are the republicans keeping other republicans from watching the ballot counting in Philly?

I have a client who worked the McCain campaign in 2008. At that time he was a practicing attorney and not too many years before that he was a liberal. Eventually his Harvard indoctrination wore off. Anyway, he witnessed first hand the dirty Philly democrats running the polls.

When this election is over 70M Americans will have voted for Trump. None of these Americans are going to believe this election was above board. The Coolerites think all these folks are hillbillies and racists that don’t count. Therefore it doesn’t matter, right?
You left out the important part:

When this election is over, 70M Americans will soon find out that Biden is not the terrible, incompetent demon that Trump made him out to be.

BS there’s been a number of Republican public officials who have come out and criticized the Trump administration for claiming fraud and an illegitimate election. If 70M of his voters believe this election is fraudulent, then it’ll be the end of democracy, because every future election will be suspect.

Btw, Georgia is about to flip are you going to tell me now that heavily red GA is a well known area where there are corrupt democrats? Democrats who can control a red state filled with all Republican leaders!

Right, they were trying to follow COVID protocol, not block witnesses. The Trump campaign admitted in court they had watchers in the room.
Am I reading that right? When the judge asked the T.rump lawyer if there were any T.rump observers in the room, did he really reply, "There's a non zero number of people in the room"???

Wow...just wow.

Everybody's goin' away Believe this time they're going to stay There's not a soul I know around Everybody's leavin' town Some caught a freight, some caught a plane Find the sunshine, leave the rain They said this town's a waste of time I guess they're right, it's wastin' mine Some gotta win, some gotta lose Good time Charlie's got the blues Ya know my heart keeps tellin' me "You're not a kid at thirty-three" "Ya play around, ya lose your wife" "Ya play too long, you lose your life" I got my pills to ease the pain Can't find a thing to ease the rain I'd love to try and settle down But everybody's leavin' town Some gotta win, some gotta lose Good time Charlie's got the blues Good time Charlie's got the blues Good time Charlie's got the blues (Whistling to end)

Love this song. Dwight Yoakam does a great cover of it.

Where are ballots still being counted in GA?

Others disagree.
You can’t honestly say that Trump is practicing democracy. He’s destroying democracy with his false fraud claims. He should be thankful the pollsters were wrong and he wasn’t trounced.

Are you ready to call Georgia corrupt, because your boy is about to tank? It’s all a big conspiracy.. oh my!

My assertion is that the scholars here at the WC are completely out of touch with the working class, you know, the rubes that many here constantly refer to.
What a totally obnoxious comment.

Yeah, I don't know working class.

When I got up before school to milk cows, and do it again coming home. When I baled hay, detassled corn, and worked third shift in a damn rug factory in summers in high school so I could pay for books & meals, because Dad said that I could go to college, just so long as I got a full tuition scholarship. I found that there are other big expenses besides tuition, and I needed a car. A 13 year old Pontiac.

Along with my brother, no ancestor had ever gone to college. Damn few of them could read, in generation after generation of busting red clay sod in Southern Indiana.

I grew up Republican. I am probably the only one of my siblings and cousins who voted Biden. If I vote Democratic every time from now on, in the election of 2048, at age 86, I will have voted for as many Democratic presidential candidates as I have voted Republican.

I don't talk down to the Cuban woman emptying wastebaskets at my workplace, or the guys mowing the grass. I am the professor in the 3rd floor office. But they are my people. Not you, though, I would guess.

It's incredible to me that you can say something like this immediately after complaining about the "hate democrats have" and not feel any sense of cognitive dissonance at all.
You guys are going to have to talk me off the ledge when this is done. I'm about ready to cancel some friendships. I'm independent and have voted both parties pretty evenly. But this shit show is wrong and I can't stand people defending it.

Preach, I can relate on damn near every level except milking the cow. Detassling corn may be the worst job in the US. I may be permanently scarred from those two summers. I’m almost pissed at you for reminding me.

MSNBC just took on Sharpiegate. Some Maricopa County Republican voters say they were given Sharpies to vote with which would invalidate their vote. It has become big deal.

It turns out Sharpies dry much faster and thus do not smudge. The voting machine manufacturer recommends Sharpies.

We are getting to the point that paranoia is the only answer for some.

Friendships are precious. It takes a lifetime to build them and can only take a second to destroy them if you don't treat them with care. Don't judge people by their worst moments. This moment will pass, particularly if we focus on what binds us even when some among us aren't able to do so.

I disagree. The older you get the fewer friends you have simply because you realise that the old friends sometimes have little in common with the contemporary you, other than history.

Those aren't really friends anymore as much as the 'business friends' are.

Most people, push come to shove, have only a handful of friends.

The rest really will range from acquaintances (incl social media ones), legacies to symbiotic partners.

I have very few true friends, and none are Trump supporters that I know of. That said, I've lost a lot of respect for a number of acquaintances and colleagues.

Trump is most likely going to win Arizona.
Georgia and Pennsylvania gonna be tight obviously.
Have you seen where the House now stands?

I think you miss my point, sglow, so I respectfully disagree. I'm talking about the handful. And I've found that the people who proved to be really loyal lifelong friends weren't the ones I would have expected at the time.

Its not about external identifiers that keeps or gives everyone a bond or like a shared experience -- intentional or accidental eg from IU basketball or party affiliation to military experiences.

Its about shared internalised values that bonds friends.
