Mass, in response to your post did some research (links above) on polling being done which (1) Reflect how Americans are feeling about our status in the world, (2) How the rest of the world sees us, and (3) Finally what the world and Russia think about Putin.
Mass, it is hard to sum up what the three links say and you may not agree with my summation, but here goes...
In terms of how the world sees the U.S. and Putin, I would day the United States comes off more favorably than does Putin. However, Putin for the most part gets favorable ratings from his own people although there is some dissatisfaction with the economy and corruption. As to how Americans view our standing in the world, there seems to be a surprisingly strong sentiment that we are no longer universally respected.
Mass, finally, on a personal level, don't agree with your following conclusions but unfortunately do understand a good many Americans would agree...
