Archie is not going anywhere!

Like who do you really think would come here if we fired Archie after this year. You think you know everything so give us names of all of these elite coaches who would leave their stable jobs to come here to coach for a fanatical fan base who fired their coach after two years. You could offer 8 million to Tony Bennett and he would not leave UVA where he has won 2 conference titles in the last 3 years. He can accomplish the same thing at UVA under a lot less scrutiny so why would he come here.
It’s absolutely asinine for you to say definitely that Bennett would turn down $8 million when he’s making $3. You have no idea if he would take it and neither do I. That’s what’s so dumb about this conversation.

What a terrible idea that’s been for UK, UNC, Kansas, etc during their last coaching searches.

"during their last coaching searches" . . . let's see.

UNC finally lured Williams back to Chapel Hill because of connections to Carolina - not money. He turned the job down because he didn't want to leave his players in 2000

From the article:

"And Roy was just as emotional as he could be and he said, 'You know, Dick, I just can't do it. I promised my players and I've just got to stay with that"

Three years later, Williams was close to turning down Carolina again before taking the job.

From the article:

"Williams said he twice went to the phone to tell the Tar Heels he was staying in Kansas. Each time, he changed his mind. Williams said he made the decision while flying back to Kansas on Sunday night, and told his players at a meeting yesterday."

And money? Also from the article:

"Williams was apparently North Carolina's only candidate. He agreed to an eight-year deal with a base salary of $260,000, with bonuses and a media package that will raise his compensation considerably. Final details of the contract have yet to be worked out."

Big spenders down there on Tobacco Road . . .

Kansas? They spent a bunch of money to lure Self to Lawrence?

Not hardly.

From the article:

“Self's first contract was $1.1 million a year for five years”.

To further emphasize how much of a factor money was to Self, he turned down an $1 million offer from Nebraska while still at Tulsa.

Finally, UK

After pushing Tubby Smith out the door in 2007, the Wildcats coveted Billy Donovan. But Donovan – who was making $1.7 million annually with the Gators – turned the Wildcats down. They hired Billy Clyde Gillespie instead – for 2.3 million. You would have to believe UK offered AT LEAST that much to BD. Two years later when BCG flamed out, Donovan nixed the idea of him going to Lexington before the job was even offered. He knew how unrealistic the expectations in Lexington were.

From the article:

"Donovan didn't even let it get that far this time around. His statement was released minutes after Barnhart announced Gillispie's dismissal."

So they hired John Calipari - and spent big bucks because no one else was interested. Cal has had a lot of success with the OAD strategy while getting the top kids, but has had his recruiting fall off from getting the top players that were vital to that success. Let's see how much UK - for the money they're paying Cal - tolerates the OAD if UK doesn't make a Final Four this year or next.

So you want to send Archie packing 1-1/2 years in? And then have to pay $50-60 million for a coach who may win you a title? How do you KNOW Archie might not be that guy - because we're struggling right now? Here is one of the comments from the 10-year Kansas article linked above:

"When they announced that Bill Self was the new coach of KU, I distinctly remember thinking " Really? This is the best that The University of Kansas can do? This guy should be coaching at Northwestern or Marquette or somewhere (no offense to those teams but..............)"

I was really ticked off, thinking that they had hired the first guy who raised his hand and said " yeah, I'll take that job."

Good dang thing I wasn't in charge of hiring back then."

"Let's spend money . . ." lol

So your bar for Calipari is Final Four or bust? Something he’s already done 6 times.

But your bar for Archie doesn’t even include make the NCAA Tournament?

Sounds fair and unbiased to me.

How many Final Fours Cal been to since he stopped getting the Transcedental OAD's?

And you KNOW Archie's not making the NCAA this year? Or next? If Indiana is still struggling like they are now at the end of 2020 we can discuss whether Archie might not be the guy. Until then yo're being nothing but a troll . . . or just CDK.

There you go with your made up terms. He’s been to 6. Count them...6. And just like every other year he’s ranked in the top 10 again.

And you’re over here saying Archie “might” not be the guy if he can’t even make the tourney in his first 3 years. Get a clue buddy.

He's been to 4 at UK - all with Transcendental OAD talent. Talent that no longer is going to Lexington. Nothing made up about that at all.

So incredibly rich coming from you, CDK.;)
So you’re just not including those 4? That’s convenient.

Have you missed how they’re doing once again this year? Must be crushing you.

To be fair, Roy, cries over hallmark movies and cute puppies on the internet, as well.

We should hire Sean Miller, he's having a rocky season at Arizona and they might want to get out from under the eye of the FBI/ NCAA.

Thots?

Not everyone wants more money.

But we don’t have just one option. Someone will.
You don’t know what coaches, players or admin think, want or do. Sure, you want more money and a better job, but no one wants you. Hell, no one even wants you on this message board.

Crean got 9 years. Archie should get 9. Right Scott!

RIF

Are they in the Final Four yet this year? No? If you think IU fans are upset at how Archie is doing so far just wait to hear the weeping and gnashing of teeth (all 3 of them) of BBN if that occurs - and they're paying $8 million . . .

Langford is not staying so you can give up that dream. Who knows if brooks is coming yet and who knows about Hunter's health. Alot of what ifs right not but if Archie does not make the tourney next year he is in serious trouble. You cannot use the excuse machine in year three period.
If Arch goes through a run like we’ve just had next season, with listless play and underwhelming coaching and motivation, he won’t last. We need to play with some heart and toughness pronto, and Archie has to show he’s up to the challenge starting tomorrow night.

Why start a new thread on this when there are 20 others discussing this same thing
If it's such a problem then don't read it stupid. You act like someone forced you to read the thread. I see you like to complain about everything. IU Scott= IU Dumb.

I'm in the - anyone who thinks Archie should be on the hot seat is clueless camp. "Like Whatever." (My best Alicia Silverstone.)
My goodness we are rebuilding from the Crean era. A decade of not meeting standards. (Not everything was terrible. Crean had some talent but he was not an X's and O's guy.)
Archie's a great coach who doesn't have a great roster. Major injuries and playing very good teams. We're not being out coached we're being out played. Huge Difference.
Thoughts?
Go Hoosiers!
