Anyone know where any of the old timers are these days?

Reading your posts, I feel like the two of you probably came down on opposite sides of the RMK debate that was raging back in the day.
To say the least. Sometimes it would get personal. Like the post he once made entitled, “Whacking material for Stroker Ace”. Opened it up, clicked on the link, and it was a picture of Gojko Kasich with Burt Reynold’s head affixed to his body.

So, you were Stroker Ace at the Star?

First interacted here with the old Star News forum in 1996. The one I remember wasn’t specific to IU, but simply college basketball in Indiana. It was popular due to its newness as a tool of debate.

Joined the specific initial IU forum created by Peegs in 1997. Lots of intensity and some witty repartee. In retrospect, we kept being optimistic about a return to the success of 1973 to 1994 period. We had some offensive talent, Patterson, Guyton, Haston, Recker in this period up to year 2000, but never enough real quickness or toughness. RMK ego began growing past his results.

Obviously, Mike Davis entered a no win situation between Knight loyalists and Myles Brand agenda. Regardless, his style got Coverdale off the bench and allowed Fife to relax enough (away from RMK intimidation) to become major contributors. MD also gave Odle enough time in lineup that mixing with Jeffries, Newton and Hornsby, we almost won 2002 title. Ironic how MD actually clearly outcoached Kelvin Sampson of Oklahoma in semifinal game that year. His substitution pattern including liberal use of Moye and Leach kept us fresh enough to beat the favored Sooners.

I was at that final four in Atlanta, and if MD had followed the same pattern versus Maryland in final we win. Hoosiers were up by a point at roughly 6 minutes to go mark, but wore down as playing minutes were not spread well enough.

Davis had some coaching talent, but just wasn’t yet ready for the national stage at IU. He actually turned out more earnest, likeable and simply better than either Crean or Miller.

I moved to Atlanta once Sampson screwed up the program, busy with work and family…stopped participating in the forums.

Now retired, and with a great favorite of mine, Mike Woodson, as our new coach, I look forward to engaging once again.

Very true that the predecessors of this board were informative and had a cast of characters who had real insight and connections to what was going on.

As a longtime lurker from the IIBF days in the mid-90s before Peegs took over, it was the best source of info for someone like me 600 miles away. The only other source I had was Dumb and Dumber SportsTalk on WOWO and only because Dumb’s brother was the Bloomington paper’s editor.

25 years is a long time and I’m sure many have passed on or moved on to other pursuits. It was a different era and most of the main characters real names were known to most, even to a random lurker like me.

I remember logging on one Sat night in ’97 and somebody posted Reed had quit and accused RMK of choking him. The mods quickly took the post down and I never heard anything more until three years later when everything hit the fan.

Rmkfan1 was still posting on Facebook as late as last summer using his real name. He walked away from IU basketball a long time ago. Back then he was a friend of Bloom from AAU coaching days, not sure if that’s still the case or not.

Wischoosier is now a Colorado Hoosier and is his same old self on Twitter. It may surprise some that he’s a lefty Democrat and apparently quite prominent in the Colorado party.

Andy Graham of the Bloomington paper used to post back then, don’t recall his handle. Kirk Haston’s relative posted frequently and was Bad Knee. Gojko, proudly using his own John Hancock, was the king of the board, skewering any anti-RMK poster. Twin Degrees was Ducati and again his real name was known.

Galen Clavio posted when he was a student. PJ Murphy, aka Ohio Guy, of course had inside connections with his brother. Both Galen and PJ were kind enough to IM me back in the turbulent 2000 “investigation” with answers to my questions of what was going on.

There was a guy named S Walker who was close to the Alfords who posted a long story that I saved and still have detailing how Steve was all set to be the coach after 2001 until Brand pulled the rug out from under him. IIRC S Walker was a Ball State prof who was a big deal in the IU Foundation/Alumni but I could be mistaken.

The old boards used to actually have meet-ups for dinner too. But that all changed after 2000. It’s been a fractured fan base ever since.

I’ve been around since inside Indiana. Used to use IUMyron, which was my old roommate. He passed sadly two years ago. Got my own handle in 2012. Board seems similar to me. Stopped paying thx to Peegs. Just re-joined a month before Peegs pulled the middle of the night Colts move. I look past the ass wipes and some may consider me an ass wipe too. I think the board is great. Love it. Now I want the teams to be good too. Go Hoosiers!

I've been here under this name or one other since 2000 or 2001. Got into an argument with Bret Bearup about Jason Collier early on. Now they are both dead and I feel old. Gojko emailed me about it, but we never discussed anything again. He is still a practicing criminal defense attorney in NWI. He won a trial recently. We are on a listserv together, and I saw the congrats.

Remember RCabrera? Basically Cavanagh lite. Once said he could learn to be a classical concert pianist with one year of study. Lolz.

Concur on the 6 to 7 mark. Score was 41 to 42 or something. Needed a timeout right then, we had come from behind and worked to get the lead.

All the greats are dead, and I don't feel so good myself.

I remember ordering a computer in pieces from a company with a cow logo.

First link was Intellicast weather.
Second Indy Star sports blog, where sexual retorts about mothers outweight substantibve posts about 5:1.
Then Bruce Strom.
Then Peegs well before the Knight firing.
(Hell, before that, Peegs would have golf outings! Try that today and it'd be a mostly-peaceful riot!)
After Knight got fired, it was an every-lemming-for-himself implosion. to the point that when Mike Davis said "I hate Kentucky" - PEOPLE COMPLAINED.

Those of us who had wandered the football abyss felt more at home in the hoops abyss than most, but the post-Knight era has been a bad roller coaster.

I'm pulling for this new bunch will all I have left.
I’m right there with you. I played in one of those and with Mike himself a few times in my Columbus days. A point of reference: I read about the first tower on Peeg’s when I happened to get to work a bit early. Met 50 co-workers a minute later in the conf room with a big screen.

Good stuff. There were folks back then with rel attachment to the program and i miss tht insight...it doesn't exist today. RMKFAN1 was appreciated. Walker was right and i could introduce you to a G5 pilot that would back that up.

I attended two meet ups...one before my Uncle's passing and one after so two different names.

You freaked me out for a second there. There's a CO Hoosier on the Cooler, but he's far far from a lefty Democrat.
I'm much more active on Twitter, a real cesspool-but still a good source of info, and he surfaced on some thread, maybe Dakich's, when Knight returned last year. First time I'd heard anything out of him in 20 years, and I remembered his real name. He was an unforgettable character. He's still chasing black helicopters.

Jimmy Laskowski. HYPER. IU graduates would never make these kinds of mistakes.
So interesting that a guy who since 2015 has sobbed over and over...and over that he is NOT ORDFAN!!!...responds every... single...time Ordy is mentioned.

Nope. I just enjoy pointing out how many times I’ve busted you wide open as a liar. Jimmy Laskowski and the stuff you made up about Glass made it easy to show you were completely FOS. The fake DMs that you weakly were forced to run from when you obviously couldn’t back up what you said, too. The HYPER stuff, your banishment from the Purdue board (wow), and your admission of frequenting a site you admitted was a well known hate site only adds to your sorry story.

Its like you want to be continually exposed as a complete fraud. Rent free, forever.

Nope what? Not Ordy or not responding every time the name is mentioned?

Looks like you got all flustered when the DING went off.

Oh...and Ordturd...you can easily go see may last few posts on GBI in 2015...they are still there. Nothing like what you claim...but then the truth never is.

Neither. If you’re busting yourself for following me around, as you obviously just did, that’s a good boy. As for the numerous lies I just documented, it’s always amusing that you aren’t able to mount any defense whatsoever, an obvious admission on your part. Jimmy. Lol

I agree 100%. I think I joined peegs around 1998 when I was at IU. Reading the forums back then was an educational experience. The way RMKFAN1 and the others broke the game down was pretty awesome to read. After a game, I would rush to the computer and see what the experts had to say. I do miss the thread view as well. The boards are quite different now. Before, a lot of posters had connections. When the whole RMK zero tolerance happened, I remember posters who had "inside connections" and they were dead on so we all had inside knowledge of what was going on behind the scenes. Back then, IU bball forums were not picked up or followed by the media and sites like this were not known by many except the hardcore fans. Gerdis is the only old timer name that is still active here that I can remember. A lot of them went away when Coach Knight was wrongfully termed. I wish they would come back.

The mods there were present unlike here. I managed to hang out the entire Peegs era without as much as a warning.. Switched screen names to this one mid way through after my namesake Uncle passed.

Either Peegs or StarNews had a "trash talk forum: where those inclined could go and trade mindless insults. Can't recall which did this, but it made sense to avoid what we see here. Remember Amen Corner? Only PU poster that I laughed at his quality trash talk.
I can remember the trash talk rivals forum. That was the best. You didnt have to sign up and just put a nickname and posted. I was Bobby and I remember BDMW who was probably my all time favorite poster. In 98/99 we used to light up the Purdue fans on the IU trash talk forum. We really gave it to them. All the old sites posted your IP address publicly and I can remember someone claiming to be an IU student that hated Bob Knight got traced to the Purdue library lol.

I have been around since probably 2002 lurking for most part. Spent a year or two prior on the old ESPN boards. There was a character on there named Chef who guided me here/Peegs for more IU discussions. I think poor old Chef passed away about that time too. Some of you have always been cool, some pretty funny, and some belong on the naughty list. Been a good 20 years of reading about average basketball. I sure hope Coach Woody turns it up this season.

I miss thread view. So much better, IMHO. You could pick and choose which replies to click on and not have to wade through all the crap.

Too often threads become a back and forth b/t two posters. Those threads suck.

Certainly miss having the Knowledge of someone like Jack here.

One final thought is where are ANY of the longtime posters? In a couple of other threads we have someone posting “Ordy” over and over and over again. Yet, that person has a username only a few years old. Makes no sense. Unless there are a bunch of people that have just changed their handles over the years.
My old username got banned because that moron IUScott complained about something I said and the mods kicked me out. Birmk is Ordfan, and about 20 other handles over the years. The mods now are completely worthless and apparently anything goes. I've been on this board since the early 2000's.
