Les Miles to Kansas, looks like they are getting serious about football.

Ehhh...says more about the trajectory of Les Miles’ career to me. As in...maybe it’s over.

Yeah, he’s 65 and hasn’t coached for 2 and a half seasons. He was probably holding out thinking he’d get another high profile gig. And when no one called, he decided to get one more payday before he calls it quits

IU tried hiring a washed up coach from LSU and it didn't work out to well. Miles is a much better coach than Dinardo ever was.

Kansas was serious about football when they hired Charlie Weiss. It still didn't work out. Building a powerhouse football team at Michigan or LSU is a hell of a lot easier than doing so at Kansas. There are dozens of examples of "big-time" hires struggling at schools with historically low success in football.

Those here who believe that there is a magic formula for places like Kansas (or IU) to have instant success by hiring a big name coach and throwing money at him are delusional. It might work, but it also might not.

It’s not just hiring Miles, Kansas is making a major investment in facilities as well. Charlie Weiss was a much worse college coach than Les Miles.

Well "major" is relative. They are spending a lot of money largely because they were way behind in spending. They are starting a renovation to HALF their stadium, with no timeline to begin renovation on the other half. And even when completely done, it looks like they'd have a very nice AAC/CUSA level stadium.

Exactly. Kansas has the worst facilities out of all P5 schools. No commitment to upgrading and keeping up with the football facilities arms race over the years. They’ve taken care of b-ball, but they’ve done nothing for football. When the Big 12 gets picked apart someday, nobody will want Kansas because they’re sooooo terrible and historically uncommitted to football. IU’s facilities embarrass KU’s. Miles will struggle and I doubt he does much better than Weiss.

Les Miles could not do much with some of the best talent in the country. I'm guessing he isn't going to do much with that recruiting base.

Fred Akers was a great coach at Texas but was terrible at PU
