2021 IU football recruiting wish list

A bit of news in the stories about Burks.......IU is looking at Larry Smith at the CB position, rather than as a safety, and will try to recruit 2-3 more safeties this year.
We just need to keep stacking solid classes. The 2021 class seems like it is well on its way.
Probably 3-4 officially.... but there will be more due to attrition (early grads, transfers, etc). Still need an OL (2).... couple more safeties, 2 DEs.... and looking at another TE.... to build up foundation.
Only If one is very good. We will have no senior LBs.... and remember we usually only play 2 LBs at a time.
I think we only took one LB last class, so imo it might benefit our depth to take one.
It couldn’t hurt. We currently have 8 LBs on scholarship... ....none will be seniors. 3 are freshmen.... Cam Williams, DK Bonhomme, and Ty Wise. Thus, we have a 4 deep.
If Thomas Allen is not able to return due to his injury...or would give up his scholarship..... then yes....getting a quality LB in this class makes some sense. But at this time, the numbers don’t seem to justify adding an LB more than other position groups.
Good analysis. I am sure there are more important areas that need addressed.
At this point, I'd want Sales & maybe a WR they're really after.
Then I'm willing to gamble on a strong season and try and parlay that into being really selective with the last few to round out the class.

I don't think we'll take a linebacker this class.
As you said, we have 8 on scholarship, with none being seniors. We only play two to begin with.
If the player is to good to pass up, then yeah, we'll take him, but linebacker is way down on the wish list this cycle.
Added Robert Jackson, 6'6" 245 SDE from PA...we 're in his top 10...pretty highly regarded....says he won't decide until school starts.
Add Demond Snyder S/DB from Fla. who has Indiana in his final 4- Indiana, Illinois, Louisville, & UCF He'll announce July 6.
We're in a few different guys top 4, 7,8,10, etc. That's good sign of course, but at some point we need to not go home as first runner up kiss on the cheek, but the winner winner chicken dinner!
That's the "DD Snyder" on my list.....right now there are two CB projections on him for Illinois....

I know I sound like our rivals, but I don’t know we lost out on Snyder, I do believe we have our sight set on a couple other safeties.
Freeman and David are the main targets at safety both are really underrated by rivals maybe time for new rating on both. Somehow White commit for Penn State went from 5.4 2 star to 5.8 4 star we shall see if there is a new rating for these 2 IU prospects my guess not.
Added DE Gharin Stansbury, 6'5" 228 lbs, from Franklin LA. IU appears to have a decent shot. Others involved include AZ State, Houston, Kansas....There's a free story about him on Peegs. He's viewed as a quick pass rushing DE. Says he wants to decide by August.

What are our chances with Maurice Freeman? I read he will be giving his verbal commitment to steam, on 8/1.
Rivals & 247 both say Ole Miss is the leader. I think we're 2nd, but I see no picks for us.
We've been out for a while. We didn't make his top 5 when released a month or so ago.
I've added MJ Daniels, a 6'3" CB/WR from Mississippi. We're in his final 6, with Ole Miss, A&M, GA, TN, and Minnesota. He's rated the #2 player in Miss by 247, and #6 by Rivals. #210 player in the US by 247.
He was originally committed to Ole Miss.
Not likely, but we are in the final 6 with no one clearly in the lead.

And just like that, people on 247 are saying we're his leader and popping crystal ball picks for him to the good guys.
If we get Freeman, I like the trio of Smith, Burks & Freeman for the defensive backfield...........
I've added Cameron Wright, a 6'4" WR out of Mississippi, originally committed to Memphis. Best offers are Memphis, Ole Miss, USF, Virginia, IU.
Peegs has an open article on his site on 7/18 which says we offered him after he committed to Memphis, and that he's open to being recruited by IU.

Yes, but look at his offer list......it looks like a Hail Mary at this point. Do we have any special connection?
He was committed since March, until now, to GA. 247 lists him as a DT. Was it mutual because GA had too many DEs? Did GA want him to play DT, not DE?

When you only have 6-7 spots available, it gives you some time to go after long shots like Daniels and Dean, which would both be HR commits for us.
