It's heartbreaking. The worst part of it is that the criminal works the system to their advantage...knowing that without a witness, confession and/or compelling physical evidence that they will be able to plead down to lesser charges and literally get away with murder. And in the event there is a cooperating witness, confession or compelling evidence, they still in many cases are able to plead down to a lesser charge because the prosecutors and the courts want to move the case along due to untenable case loads. It happened to my wife's friend and coworker about 8 years ago, her son went to buy a Sunday paper at a convenience store down the street from them that morning and was gunned down...(allegedly) by a guy who had been in and out of jail and had made the news both before an since. Although I do get your point. We long ago were told that it was tacky to blatantly point out the obvious about this stuff so code words have been developed over time. "Thugs", "teens", "youths", all of these are just other words used in place of "young black males" because it is generally frowned upon to use the latter because it leads to stereotyping.
We can't address the glaring problem right in front of us because we aren't allowed to even speak about it truthfully.
If you backed out young black males this country would barely have a violent crime problem. Murders in the most dangerous city in america would be less than ten a year. Black males are the problem
