Which Hoosier got the best NIL deal this past season?

Charles Barkley's pronouns

Chuck is getting annoying when he constantly refers to the current Auburn team as "us and we." Kenny Smith does it to a lesser extent when commenting on North Carolina, his alma mater.

Clark Kellogg took a bit of a shot at both yesterday, making it clear that he doesn't use personal pronouns to refer to Ohio State because he doesn't play for the Buckeyes anymore. Instead he explained that he is commenting on basketball and is not a cheerleader for his former college team.

I think he was trying to get Barkley and Smith to back off on the cheerleading, but doubt he will have much luck.

Malik Reneau could be the fourth recruit, and the Big Man we need, in next years class.

As I stated in an earlier post, if we have four of the Seniors leave, and move on, we could add an essential, and productive, big man to next years class, through recruitment, or transfer. And Malik Reneau would fill that bill perfectly. He's a 5 star talent, and we have an slight advantage with one of his teammates already committed, and signed, in Jalen Hood-Schifino. Now if only Hood-Schifino, and Woodson, can convince him to join them at Indiana.

Elam Ending

I've watched a lot of baskball games through the B1G torunament and the first round of the NCAA tournament. Whether my team is ahead or behind or whether I have no team, I found the endings of close games to be repetative, uninteresting and even boring. The tactic of foul and hope for a free throw shooting miracle just is not interesting basketball.

The Basketball Tournament and the New Zealand pro league have adopted the Elam ending, both to great success. At the first dead ball within the last 4 minutes, 8 points are added to the score of the leading team. First team to that threshold wins.

The Elam ending rewards stops and sound offense. Tactical fouls and free throws are less important. The last 4 minutes of a game look more like basketball than a game of horse played from the free throw line.

Woody - year 2

Can’t wait to see how Woody approaches year 2. Regardless of what TJD does, expectations will be high for an upper conference finish and at least 2 NCAA tourney wins. He MUST reload this roster with frosh and proven D1 portal guys. Other than Geronimo and Bates, the rest of the returning roster are weak. Looking forward to 2022/2023 !

Some notable quotes from Adam Henry from today's media availability...

We will post the video when we receive it.

Adam Henry | Co-Offensive Coordinator/Wide Receivers

Opening Statement...

AH: First of all, I would like to thank Coach Allen and the whole football family for welcoming me here at Indiana. Right at this time it is a great place for me to be. I believe that this is a great program on the rise, and I am proud to be a part of it. The atmosphere is totally what I am looking for. I am excited to be here and ready to go to work.

On what made Indiana appealing...

AH: Like you said, I had been in the NFL for a while. It is a family setting here - not to say that it isn't in the NLF - and I had some things happen in my life. My mother and my father passed in a span of seven months. At that point, I wanted to take some time off and then Coach Allen reached out to me. I had heard a lot of positive things about him and what I am seeing now, it is real. It is just a great fit for me right now.

On how his time in the NFL can help him at Indiana...

AH: One of the most important things is confidence. As far as the wide receivers plan and the developmental part of it, I played and coached at McNeese State, so most of the time when I got a receiver he never really played receiver. [A lot of times] He was a great 2A or 3A quarterback, running back, played baseball and basketball, and was kind of an athlete and we really sculpted them into being a receiver. For me, that is where I got my tenure of experience coaching guys and developing them to play receiver and the technical part of it. For me, having that background and them going to the NFL and having success, for me to come back is just a beautiful thing for me to teach them. Not only do I have tape of it and examples, but it is real life things that I really believe in, And, if I believe in it and I am teaching it, and they believe in what I am teaching, then they are going to go out there with preparation and confidence to execute it at a high level. That is the biggest thing about being a pro on and off the field, about being a technician and pro with your craft. We know at this level in the Big Ten, it is big time football, and you have to be on your game each and every week. For me, it is about the consistency and the preparation. If I can bring that to this group, the confidence, the energy, the enthusiasm, I am just ready for that at this point and time.

On what can transfer from the professional level to the college level...

AH: The biggest thing that Coach Allen preaches is learning concepts and playing with energy and enthusiasm. So, if you are a conceptual learner here, it is going to help you on the next level. I may play outside and inside, in different spots, so if I can conceptualize and understand what we are running and how [it all works together], I can go inside and outside and move around. You see the guys that have the most success at the next level when they are conceptual learners. [In the NFL] You are only going to have five guys, maybe six, dressed on a Sunday, so it is the next person up, not the next position man up. If this L or R goes down, it's not like [the next person in that position is called up], it is the next best person. For me, the conceptual thinking and bringing that to the receivers group, especially the writing down everything, the note taking and the details of it, it’s all about being a pro. If I come and approach the meetings, because the meeting time and preparation is so important, and for me to bring that to the room and bring that over to the practice field, we can develop those things and work those things. We are going to work those in the individual periods on the field, so when we get to the team setting then it will transfer over there. Repetition is the mother of all learning. We just have to get the reps in and then keep prepping those things and the fine details of it.

Netflix to $19.99/month (premium service) as of April 19

I won't notice it to be honest. I believe it's a $4/month increase.

But, if I were to add up all of my streaming services....ok I'll do it.

Netflix - $19.99
Disney/Hulu/ESPN - $12.99
BTN - (don't @ me, I keep forgetting to turn if off) $9.99
HBOMax - $19.99
Amazon Prime - technically nothing but they note it's $8.99 w/o the regular Prime membership

total $71.95/month. Still cheaper than cable.

Shit, I still have cable.

Something's gotta give man.

Juwan's Hug of a Losing Player Does not Negate his Behavior against Wisconsin

Listening to the commentators you would think that Juwan Howard is such a kind, empathetic, person for consoling a player on the opposing team after Michigan beat them. That's Bull****. It's easy to show kindness toward an opponent when you've won. The real test is how you react when you lose. Juwan should have been suspended for the entire year for his behavior.

Beyond George Orwell.

Jan. 6 panel seeks outside writer to help engage public

The House select committee investigating the Jan. 6 riot on Capitol Hill is reportedly gearing up for its final report and seeking to hire an outside writer to inject excitement into its account to engage the public.

Panel members are also planning to produce a multimedia presentation that can be shared on social media and arrange “blockbuster” TV hearings to attract public attention, according to reports from The Washington Post and CNN.
“We do not want a bureaucrat to write this report but rather a historian or a journalist — or someone who writes and can tell a story in a compelling way so that people can actually understand what happened,” Rep. Stephanie Murphy, a member of the committee, told The Washington Post.
Committee members want the final report to be compelling enough to motivate the general public into reading hundreds of pages about what transpired during the buildup to the events of Jan. 6, 2021, when rioters stormed the Capitol.

WTF is this about? The Democrats and a couple of Republicans have spent more than a year embellishing and overstating January 6 for political advantage. That’s bad enough and the go-a-long media gives them an edge anyway. But wait. . . .there is more! We will spend public funds to dramatize the whole shebang to make a TV show out if it? I guess the facts aren’t onerous enough to speak for themselves, so we must hire outside professional writers to make sure the public “can actually understand” what happened. Anybody wanna bet that this production will be released during the height of the campaign season. I’m thinking the theme from Jaws will be the soundtrack and AOC will have a starring role in the promised multimedia production.

Yikes. George Orwell didn’t even go this far.

Six high-profile teams that have exited the NCAA tournament

National writer Rob Cassidy takes a look at some high-profile programs who were bounced in the first weekend of the NCAA Tournament.

Talks a bit about IU and how this team will be remembered.

OT Athlete compensation

For any on here who was naive enough to think that the move for player compensation would end with NIL, check out the National College Players Association civil rights complaint filed today with the U.S. Department of Education. The NCPA is seeking removal of limits on athletes compensation and for athletes to be considered employees of their schools among other things.

The beat goes on.

RMK's record

the last six years at IU was 123 - 67 for a 65% winning percentage. Big Ten record was 60 - 48 for 56%. Only made the round of 32 two times. His record at Texas Tech was about the same, but the fifth year there was 15-17 overall. I know some will say "SOS", but look at the B1G record. For comparison, Painter has done a lot better the past six years. I was a Knight disciple for decades, but his teams didn't do much after '93. If Woody has the same record as RMK for six years, most on this board will want him gone. In fact, he probably wouldn't get six years. I loved the glory years and like to watch reruns once in a while, but that is pretty old history. Hell, even the footage looks like a bygone era. I know some on here will blast me for blaspheming, but most of the time RMK is brought up, it is like he and his teams were unbeatable. They were not.

OT: "The most toxic environment that I have ever been part of"....

That was a quote from a Jags staffer under Urban Meyer. It's being reported in this article that the situation with the Jags under Meyer was much worse than originally thought. The article is based on a piece that was published by The Athletic. Here's the link:

Indiana vs Illinois observations

10:30 am - I've now watched (had on in the background) two full basketball games for the first time in years. Here are my observations:

1) Team fights hard.
2) Trace Jackson looks like a young Adam Duritz from Counting Crows with those eyebrows and hair
3) Looks like good crowds. Whoever invented the 3/4 zip has to be a billionaire at this point. It's become as common as underwear for middle-aged white guys. Like a uniform.
4) Impossible not to cheer for Woodson. What a smooth, cool dude. Amazing to think they had that little rat before him. Night and day difference.
5) At the end of the game the one guy on the IU bench acted like he was stamping out his smoke butt on the ground. Lol. That's a better finish than the throat slit. Hilarious

Good for IU and the people of Indiana...Woodson making March fun again

Kentucky GOP Says “If Y’all Can Work, Y’all Will”

I still cant believe Kentucky is now a GOP state that can override a Gubernatorial veto.

Before Reagan, Kentucky had had 1 GOP governor since the Civil War. The GOP could get a Federal rep or senator from the 5th District, but the rest of the state was solid Democrat - 6:1 in some counties.

McConnell rode Reagan to the Senate in 84. Reagan and abortion put Bunning in the House in 87 and the Senate in 98.

The tide was turning.

In 2000, the GOP took control of the Kentucky Senate for the first time.

Corruption ran Democrat Governor Paul Patton out of office and gave the GOP another Governor in 2004

By 2012, Democrat gerry-mandering couldnt even keep Happy Chandler’s grandson in office!

In 2017, the GOP took over Kentucky. Governor, House and Senate.

The mid-terms are coming and the Common Man is gonna yell.
