Gotta stand by Woody over Fife departure

Surprised, but not shocked, since Woody did not hire Fife. I applaud Woody for having the courage to make this call, especially knowing how popular Fife is with IU fans. Great CEO’s build their teams with their guys, and are held accountable if they fail. Today’s news does not mean Fife is a bad coach, just a bad fit for Woody’s staff. I suspect this has been building for awhile, so Fife’s exit gives Woody a chance to strengthen his staff; hopefully that’s what he does. Go Hoosiers!

How are Small Schools Able to Compete with Larger Schools?????

It amazes me that small schools like Gonzaga, and recently St. Peters are able to compete with the larger schools in basketball. Indiana has a student enrollment of approximately 43,000. Gonzonga has an enrollment of about 10,000. St. Peter's has an enrollment of about 3,000. During the 2018-2019 season I.U. spent more on basketball recruitment than any other school in the nation, approximately $645,000. During those years I.U. out spent both Kentucky and Kansas on recruiting. I don't know how much I.U. spends on the total basketball program, but I imagine that it dwarfs the budget of schools like Gonzaga. If I.U. was a corporation and the CEO returned such dismal results for this type of spending, the board of directors would be livid. People on this site get mad when I.U.'s basketball program is criticized. Nevertheless, when this much money is poured into a program, I think people have a right to expect more than mediocre results.

Preview of the three-game Evansville series this weekend...

Here is the link to the preview of the series at Bart Kaufman. Perkins will start game one and Brehmer will take the mound in game two. The game three starter is a TBA. The AccuWeather forecast for Friday is a high of 48 with cloudy skies, a 25% chance of precip, and fairly windy with winds at 10 mph and gusts to 25 mph. The weather forecast for Saturday is worse with a high of just 39, 6% chance of precip, winds at 16 mph with strong gusts to 39 mph. Sunday is expected to be cool again with a high of 40, little chance of precip, and winds at 8 mph with gusts to 16 mph. Hopefully, there is a change for warmer temps by the weekend. The B1G season will open for eight teams this weekend with OSU at Purdue, Michigan at Nebraska, Illinois at MSU, and Rutgers at PSU.

I've Got Five On It: High-profile prospects back on the market

Rivals national writer Rob Cassidy looks at some of the high profile recruits back on the market after re-opening their recruitments.

As I mentioned on Wednesday, Indiana is in pursuit of five-star Malik Reneau.

BREAKING NEWS: Beilein with Fife Associate HC

I have to keep adding here since I’m out of posts. IU has zeroed in on Beilein and are pushing for Fife as Associate HC from what I’m told. Not a done deal yet but it’s his if he wants it. Could be finalized very soon. Stay tuned.

UPDATE: See football board. I posted it on the wrong forum and now I’m out of posts for the day.

I’ve been getting a lot of messages asking where things stand. Rather than all the one offs I figured I’d just post an update. It’s important to know how we got here.

1. Full court press was put on Stevens. Offers in the $7 million per range. He took some time but eventually said no.

2. Thad Matta was 100% the guy. This route took several days. Both sides were in a verbal agreement from what I’ve heard. Somewhere close to 6 years $24 million. I’ve heard there were other issues as well besides his back but I won’t share those.

When Thad fell through it put things back to square one. That’s why this has taken so long. Dolson has focused on big names for the most part. Most people in the know don’t feel strongly about it being Moser. I think there would have to be several other people turn us down for it to get there.

As always, I’ll be here to share what information I can when I can. I know, I know, I got bad information on the Donovan craze. The other 100 times my sources have been right on. I’m still limited in how many posts I can make but I’d prefer to answer here rather than the private messages. Go Hoosiers!

Can this site update its scholarship chart some year?

You got Jerome Hunter still on that thing (how much do I pay for this site?).

Your pathetically dated grid doesn't show it, but IU needs one more current scholly kid to leave (somehow) to get to 13 next year. Lander was the opposite of shocking, but picking the next one sure ain't easy.

All five starters with loads of experience could technically return. Who do y'all think is gonna go next? And miiiight it be more than one, perhaps two or three leave? Will Woody make room for more portal kids, or is he gonna roll with much of the same team/starters from this past season? Oh, that would be fun to behold. Ha.

SO many questions... I would be pressing Trayce for a darn decision ASAP. Or just recruit a portal big man either way. Isn't the WAC POY in the portal? He was like 6'11" and can hit from range. We'll see how much "Creaning" Woody has in him here. All signs point to... not a whole lot. I could easily see four starters back... even five.
