Iran has made threats against John Bolton. They apparently even have a price out on his head. Bolton was critical of Biden's foreign policy. Despite that, Biden still ordered the Secret Service detail for Bolton after the threat became known.

Trump just rescinded it.

What a childish and dick move to make...especially considering that Trump himself just went through an attempted assassination. He is such a vindictive and small man.

There are a couple ways to read that rather sloppy sentence. Was Howard intending to exclude only those children born to foreign diplomats? Or was he intending to exclude all children born to foreigners -- including those who are foreign diplomats?

Obviously, the question comes down to what "subject to the jurisdiction thereof" means in this context. And that was true in May 1866 when the Senate was debating this and it's true now.

Howard did not author the citizenship clause. I believe it was written by Benjamin Wade. See Wade's comments at the link below.

Regarding illegal immigrants being frightened...

They broke our laws. Isn't it kind of to be expected that somebody would be frightened if they broke the law (whatever law) and risked getting caught?

I get that she's making some kind of emotional appeal. But I try to put myself in the other guy's shoes. If I went to a foreign country and deliberately violated their immigration laws, I'm pretty sure I'd always be looking over my shoulder.

And the blame for my fear belongs on....their government?
