Why?

Has it been so fricken hard for IU to get back to being good? Serious question. Other programs have gotten good- Rutgers, Arkansas, Bama, Seton Hall, Providence, UCLA, Zona quickly returned. Serious responses only.

please don’t blame coaches or admin. It seems to not matter who is coaching or who is AD, same ole crap year after year. I truly hate where this program is right now.

At Wisconsin/ awesome to meltdown?

So what happened there?

I believe we were up 21 then the game just flipped. In the first half Wisconsin looked slow, unathletic and were missing shots really badly. They looked to my untrained eyes to be a team that might score in the 30s for the game. They looked that bad.

So what happened?

let’s forget about our offense for a second. Up 21 with a defense as good as ours, it should be game over. What were the adjustments Gard and co made?

Last year Lander should have been a high school senior.

This year the only thing he has shown is bad judgement. And he has used up half his eligibility. Did Archie not redshirt him because they thought he would go pro early? I bet Woody is telling him that future at Indiana is tenuous if he does not toughen-up and smarten-up.

Edit: last year was a a freebie because of covid. So he technically still a freshman.

Worst thing that could’ve happened to him was getting a five-star rating as a junior.

The US job growth in Biden's first year was faster than any year in US History

And almost 1/2 million jobs were created in January 2022.

Let’s talk the big, fat free throw elephant

We feel the gut punches every game. IU is now an unfathomable 292nd in the country at the stripe. Last in the B10 by a considerable margin.

In conference games, the opponent is shooting 79.4% to IU’s 67.7%. And IU is just 62.3% in their seven B10 losses. The hard facts…

B10 losses:

IU: 73/117 (62.3%)
Opponent: 108/134 (80.6%)
-5.0 points per loss

This team fails so hard at the line (and how many front-ends have we seen missed?). We all know tight road games in the B10 hinge on making ‘em. And here we are.

Indiana Hoosiers… the team that can’t shoot straight. Unreal.

Teaching and Coaching FT Shooting

We've beaten it to death here and we all know our free throw shooting is p*$$ poor and unacceptable. What I don't understand is why our kids, who have terrible mechanics, aren't taught, coached...heck even forced to change those mechanics. It's not like I'm a coach or anything, but even a moronic novice knucklehead like myself can look at the shooting mechanics of many of our players and see they aren't built for success. Trey Galloway's wrist looks like it's moving sideways before he follows through. Xavier's push shot should have been discontinued in the sixth grade. Trayce doesn't bend his knees at the free throw line and just flicks the shot with his wrists.

I love Woody, but I hate...ABSOLUTELY HATE...what he said in the presser yesterday after the game about having to "get the kids more confident" about making shots.

Maybe I'm crazy but for many of our players, I don't think it's an "emotional" thing like confidence. I think it's a very teachable, coachable mechanics thing that has to be fixed. The sooner the better...Just coach them. Teach them. That's what you're paid to do!

Closing halves, and closing games

Up 29-28 today with 1:30 left in first half. End the half down 37-30.

Down 54-51 with 9:30 to play in game. Score all of 7 points the rest of the game to lose 67-51. And that was with a meaningless bucket at the end of the game. So we managed 7 flipping points, in a chippy, hugely important, return game for the suspended kids…the final 9 minutes???

Enough blame to go around. Not gonna try and pin any on anyone.

I find it incredibly ironic though that the 2 guys we might be missing more than anyone, to help in these regards, are Rob Phinisee…and Al Durham. Rob has been a part of a couple of these debacles. But he is a guy, possibly our only guy, that’s capable of creating for himself and making outside shots. That shouldn’t be necessary when we have the two bigs we have…but here we are yet again. And then Al Durham…watched their game against DePaul tonight. His nickname now, evidently, is Mariano fricking Rivera…AKA the closer. Providence is 21-2, and they ride Durham nearly every possession late in games. He was something like 12-12 from the line, most of them late in the game.

It’s crazy how much better those 2 are overall than guys like Kopp and Stewart.

Props To Coach Woodson

Coach Woodson showed a lot of character sitting through that abomination of a shooting display. It was air balls from the field and clangers from the free throw line. My high school coach would have been drinking in a bathroom at half time just to be able to sit on the bench during the second half.

I can't remember a D1 game with so many badly executed shots-they must be running shooting drills in practice on 9' rims. The collection of shot mechanics I saw in this game were nothing less than a D1 horror story. Shots that hit the bottom of the rim or bottom of the backboard were high five shots.
