Your word is your bond.

Iran did say they weren't going to negotiate while under attack. At that point, why wait any longer? He'd already given them the 60 days.

It's hard to imagine Trump is quite as stupid as I used to think he was. I mostly assume that's because after Biden, anyone looks smart, but maybe it's more. Maybe he really is clever.
He has an innate ability to read a situation and respond in the moment in a way that benefits him in that moment. Long term thinking? Nah. But you string enough short term shit together and, well, you can just bullshit through everything.

I’ve seen countless salespeople do it. Sometimes it can even be mesmerizing.

Which is, of course, the point.
Well, he got three "likes." So . . .
Jonathan Swift wrote, “When a true genius appears in the world, you may know him by this sign, that the dunces are all in confederacy against him.”

The Democrat struggles to find something to criticize with this op is really making Trump look smart.

A little book club lingo here.:)

That's cheating.
You didn't even notice mine in the toast discussion.

Trump’s more transparent than generally viewed.

America first =
Loyalty =
Trump likes and respects strong leaders like Putin, Xi, Un, and the Ayatollah of Iran.

What doesn’t fit in the above equation?

“Death to America.”

POTUS has a constitutional duty to protect the US. Of course Trump takes away Iran’s ability to cause our death. After all, Trump has to respect the Ayatollah’s threat.

Even if Iran were to acquire nuclear weapons, I doubt they’d ever acquire any delivery mechanism that might threaten American territory.

Of course, they might arm terrorists with one, etc. etc. You can’t count any of that out.

But it’s the destabilizing nature of a nuclear Iran that makes it such an intolerable prospect.

In real life, though, how sure are we that's true? Indian and Pakistan have had nukes for years, and nothing has happened. You'd think if there were ever going to be a hot-headed nuclear exchange, that would be the location.

Israel already has nukes. If Iran gets them too, so what? Just one more cold war to add to the list of cold wars? Maybe it actually results in more peaceful relations, because Israel hesitates before firing missiles into Tehran.

Of course, I absolutely do not want a nuclear Iran. I'm very satisfied with a non-nuclear Iran. Just saying, how sure can we be that it would actually be destabilizing? Just food for thought, is all.

Trump gave them six hours to stop shooting. That's not a misinterpretation this time.

Actually:

That staggered timeline is the same thing FOX broke LIVE with the VP...

As I said in another thread, I fully expect both of them to break the deal but you can't lay that off on Trump..., at least he made an effort to wrap this up...

OK. But it’s kind of a stretch to drop a series of 30k lb bombs on a country and then expect them to just stand down.

In my first corporate job out of college the primary thing that was drilled into all of us trainees was never promise something you can’t deliver and never back out on your word. Pretty simple.

Remember when the Japanese delivered their declaration of war to the United States after the bombing of Pearl Harbor when it was supposed to be delivered 30 minutes prior to? Oops!

So now Trump attacks Iran, two days after he references a two week negotiation. Oops! It would’ve been one thing to just attack Iran with no qualifications. But he implied that there would be a two week grace period for discussions. How can he negotiate with Iran now. He has no idea what to do with regard to a replacement government. Most Ronnies have lived their whole lives under a religious zealot. How did the Arab spring work out? I imagine that any new government will basically be regional warlords.

He has broken his word repeatedly on literally thousands of things. But backtracking on tariffs and the attack on Iran will destroy the United States reputation and credibility in the international community. Trump has no credibility now. He cannot possibly negotiate with Putin. He can’t negotiate with Xi now.

And what’s really scary is that no politicians are willing to call him on it. We truly have become an autocracy. I never thought I would see this day..

"The check is in the mail"
"I won't c** in your mouth"
"Trust me, I'm a politician"

That's Exactly how you do it...

They have one alternative: Total Annihilation or a Cease Fire ...

Gee..., which is the better move...?

You're assuming that we -- or Israel, or some other unnamed force -- is prepared to execute "total annihilation" of Iran. And I don't think we are (or should be).

I fully believe that DJT wants to be done with the commitment of US military force. But I doubt that Iran is anywhere near a point where they'd consider something resembling capitulation.

Maybe I'm wrong about that. I have read where their missile stockpile (cruise and ballistic) began at around 2,000 units and has been depleted pretty significantly -- maybe down to around 500-600. But I'm sure that's just somebody's guess. And I don't put much stock in those.

That is food for thought.

Problem is, how many of those countries have leaders that say death to fill in the blank?

And how many of those countries have an ideology that worships martyrdom?

And if your tiny land area is 1/75 of the other country, is it worth risking the gamble?

All that said, I personally don’t see how Israel can survive the next 50 years. Israel has committed so many acts of violence against their neighbors that they’re doomed in any reading of history.
