Is Cignetti getting shortchanged on NIL?

That would not be my priority...too high up. I would put up 40 suites plus a multi-purpose room atop the east side.
East side seems easier as we've discussed before. I'm guessing IU will build up behind the existing stand, and that's just easier to do on the East side which has fewer rows and is closer to the ground, plus of course the suites would be closer to the field on the East side. Only thing is the sun would generally be in the eyes of the folks in the suites?

I guess there is a chance IU decides to redo both East and West stands if they're close to end of life (currently 65 years old). That would be pricey though and we don't have much extra money at the moment.

I hope whatever suites we put up someday match the north endzone architecture and have a mix of indoor and outdoor seating -- I don't like suites that look like an office building next to the stadium (Ross Ade, Camp Randall, Michigan, PSU, etc.).

Def the west side is too far up. How many stadiums have suites where the bottom floor is 115 rows up? Agree on outside seating as well. Sun is an issue for the first half for sure but is welcome late in the year.

Plenty of tickets available right now for the public at very reasonable prices. Student allocation is the same. So… who is being left out?

And competing in athletics is a “keeping up with Joneses” thing by its very nature.

People will try to complain about everything.
Do you have season tickets?

Are you aware of the seat licenses you have to buy for season tickets?

Not many bad seats in our 53K seat stadium.

Almost all schools have seat donations.

Yes I do.
It's a shitty way to treat people who have spent decades supporting lousy teams.

I'd rather see them just raise prices and then sell individual seats at a premium beyond what season tickets cost.

People will feel how they feel.

Almost all athletic dept revenue comes from fans directly or indirectly. In exchange for a better program I don’t mind paying more. IU is spending $30M more per year on football than it was two years ago. It’s still a good deal.

I don't mind paying more and never said I did.

I'm just not for gouging long time fans who have been loyal through decades of losing seasons when they could charge the band-wagon jumpers more.

We are getting a huge amount from the BTN - much more than $30 millionper year.

Well, the deal is you get priority points for loyalty. I don’t get expecting fixed or reduced ticket prices.

The increase in spending on the football program the past two years significantly exceeds the increase in media $.

Whenever I bring up east side suites and press box everyone says the sun is going to be an issue…

I’d put a second deck on the east side, chop off the top of the west stands and build suites and PB

The sun would be a serious issue on the east side.

Suites don't have to go at the top of the west side. They could put in mid-level suites.

The f'd up when they did the south end zone - they could have put in seating AND had their offices and athletic development facilities, like the north side. The north side looks classy - the south side looks like it was thrown together without the rest of the stadium in mind.

The press box is so dated. Tear it out and put in a lower-profile one that goes across the top, with some suites included.

Call me, Scott.

Again, you throw up a straw man. No one is expecting fixed or reduced ticket prices for 50 years of loyalty.

You have no idea how much BTN money IU rakes in, do you?

IU has to pay out for their stupid personnel decisions - giving Allen such a huge raise and extension, buying out Archie and Woody for firing them and paying the new BB coach his buyout at W. Virginia. Don''t act like we're spending all that money on actual athletics.

Well then what is your issue? You said you think loyal fans are being gouged -- that seems to mean your view is ticket prices went up too much for long-term holders of season tickets.

IU got $50M from media rights in FY24, $48M in FY23, and $45M in FY22. Small increases vs. the $30M increase per year we are now spending on football. Media rights are going up quite a bit next year, but that still won't cover all the extra spend on football, let alone some of the increased costs for sports like bball where we now have to pay players.

No athletic dept operates perfectly. IU has made some bad moves, but coaching changes are part of standard operations.

Almost all IU athletic dept revenue comes from fans one way or another. I don't know where you think this money will come from. But, if you want to be mad about it, it's a free country.

Agree on this. It's too bad, a lot of valuable space wasn't used very well. I get when we built it we didn't need seats, but it would have been smarter to design it so seats could be added in the future if needed. Plus the architecture isn't as good and the temporary field suites look pretty bad. Oh well.

They could probably still fit 500 seats in all that space in the south endzone, plus another 250-500 seats in the corners where those green mats are (just bring the stands closer to the field). These additions wouldn't cost much. But, I have no idea what IU may do next with the stadium.

Any suites in the stands is a substantial net loss of seats.

The current press box needs to go away, but press boxes are a thing of the past. Put some suites and a small press area up there along with some multi purpose rooms. 114 rows is too high for the floor of any viewing area. The suites that most businesses really want are on the east side.

He just likes to complain

Well, the other option is we go back to a being crappy program and everyone can get cheap tickets.

Football is the only sport that has a good ROI. It makes sense to invest in it.
I agree that football should be invested in I just don't like the athletic department borrowing money from the school. I know it's commonly done (apparently UK athletics borrowed 141 million this year lmao) but it's something I wish wouldn't happen. Especially with our rich boosters and $50 million yearly from TV rights.

Season tickets are the only thing available and they're minimum 2k because you have to buy 6. Not bad for season tickets but if we're playing 3 FCS teams a year that's a max of 5 worthwhile games. I don't think wanting amateur level pricing for college football is that outrageous; I'm concerned our small stadium will price up instead of build out.

Where do you see a minimum of six? You can buy just one season ticket right now if you want.

Prices are going up but IUFB tickets are still pretty darn reasonable in the world of sports tickets and other entertainment options.
