Even if Iran were to acquire nuclear weapons, I doubt they’d ever acquire any delivery mechanism that might threaten American territory.
Of course, they might arm terrorists with one, etc. etc. You can’t count any of that out.
But it’s the destabilizing nature of a nuclear Iran that makes it such an intolerable prospect.
In real life, though, how sure are we that's true? Indian and Pakistan have had nukes for years, and nothing has happened. You'd think if there were ever going to be a hot-headed nuclear exchange, that would be the location.
Israel already has nukes. If Iran gets them too, so what? Just one more cold war to add to the list of cold wars? Maybe it actually results in more peaceful relations, because Israel hesitates before firing missiles into Tehran.
Of course, I absolutely do not want a nuclear Iran. I'm very satisfied with a non-nuclear Iran. Just saying, how sure can we be that it would actually be destabilizing? Just food for thought, is all.
