Xavier Johnson

Let’s not forget how many posters on here wanted him benched a couple months ago for Lander or even Galloway. He took a ton of unfair criticism. So happy for him and his success down the stretch.
Wasn’t X the one who the students and fans booed off the court after a game way back when? Wonder how those idiots feel now?

From a slow start he has become the second most valuable player on this team.

One of my UK fans called and said what a dirty player he was..
And he'd like to fight him..lol..And threw in the usual racist remarks in..
I just rubbed it in !!!

100% of IU fans were really upset with X early on.

Im not sure what revisionist history you guys are pushing, but no one that knows any better is buying it.

It’s not even slightly revisionist history. Many of us were disappointed in his early play, but he showed glimpses of why IU needed him. The Negative Nancies were the people whining about him and screaming about benching him. It’s what they do.

Xavier is easily the most improved player on the team this year. I'll leave it to others to say whether that improvement is on his individual skills, effort, or simply how to play the 1 in CMW's system.

His improvement stands out because it's been a while since we've seen a player progress like he has -- particularly over the course of a single season. It used to be a fairly common thing. But it hasn't been in recent times. It was one of my single biggest gripes about Archie -- even a casual fan could see that neither his teams, nor individual players, progressed much (if at all) during the course of a season...or from season to season. And some of them seemed to take steps backward.

Let's hope we see more of what we've seen with XJ.

It wasn't unfair at the time. He was taking crazy shots and turning the ball over A LOT. He has played a lot better and I am very happy for him. But I was not wrong to be upset with him before.

X’s transformation these last 10 games has been incredible. Woody deserves all the credit in the world for turning him into a true floor leader and not the wildcard he was at Pitt.

We will go as far in March as he is able to take us.
I agree about the change. Don’t know who gets the credit.

X has improved dramatically. Totally carries the offense - exactly like a true pg should do. Turnovers are way down, assists are up. But it’s his unorthodox scoring ability that’s been eye opening. Adding Galloway’s cutting and slashing opens a whole new wrinkle of the offense.

Is there a transcript anywhere? I wasn't able to listen. Did Woody send Fife to talk to Fisch or was it in addition to himself?

Fisch said they weren't allowed to talk to the head coaches due to media agreements or contracts or some such. You could tell he thought it was bullshit.

Fife said that Woodson and X had developed the "relationship" (or something of that nature) a head coach needs to have with his point guard, and as a result we've finally seen what X is capable of doing to lead the team.

Nahhh you couldn’t wait to “set” everyone straight. Even though you had zero thought.

Not the same interview but here's a post-game video and transcript with CMW, TJD, and XJ.

This is (as usual) a trash post from you.

"A couple of months ago" X did need to sit down as he was allowing his emotions to get the best of him, he was flopping, making terrible decisions, letting others get under his skin, and playing hero ball out of control.

Woody and staff could see the potential as well as the issues and addressed both quite successfully. What we have today is a player that drives the offense, creates shots, passes well and generally keeps his emotions in check and pointed in the right direction.

Instead of players getting under his skin he gets under theirs. He got MaCahey big time, Sasha twice, and today totally took Curbelo out of the game for five minutes with a tiny "sup" bump as he walked by.

I don't know which coach(s) are most responsible, but they have turned this young man around big time.

Have a seat Feepee

Pretty sure X has been top 50 in assists all year. He was 2nd in the ACC last year. It's been clear to many (obviously not all) all year he was our best hope at PG.
