Seems it’s still important to some coaches. Including guys like two-time defending champ Danny Hurley. Woody should be aspiring to be more like him, and less like Fran McCaffrey.I care very little about high school recruiting in this climate.

Then why did Hurley even bother with McNeeley and Mullins? Surely they’ll be of no use to him.Four of UConn’s top six players last year were from the portal
Did I ever say Woodson should never recruit a high school kid again? I didn’t think so.Then why did Hurley even bother with McNeeley and Mullins? Surely they’ll be of no use to him.
/And don’t call me Shirley.
Since he can’t actually recruit one (except when he’s desperate and one falls in his lap), he seemingly has no choice.Did I ever say Woodson should never recruit a high school kid again? I didn’t think so.
Tucker took one official visit in two years (Kansas Nov 23). The G-League Ignite disbanded on March 21st 2024; he visited and committed to IU by March 28…that isn’t a coincidence. Nobody, including Duke, was recruiting Tucker in 2024.
McNeeley decommitted before Mgbako decided to return.
The recruits who went elsewhere saw a underperforming coach who’s not a great tactician but thinks he’s a lot better than he actually is, and decided the grass was much greener away from Bloomington.
He’s still milking Bob Knight’s legacy for what little it might still be worth a quarter-century later. Those banners don’t sway in the breeze like they used to, heavy laden in dust that they be now.

Program’s gotta be attractive enough to get the cream of the crop from both HS and the portal. Indiana isn’t that program, and hasn’t been for over 30 years. That’s not all on Woody, but he’s not helping.
As a ‘73 IU graduate, those days seem like the day before yesterday, if not just last week or several months prior. I still occasionally wake up in the middle of the night, drenched in sweat, with the thought of Lou Watson pacing our sideline. I’m so old I used to go to IU basketball games shuffling my feet in the sawdust lining the perimeter of the court. I’m a bit surprised there aren’t more sufferers of WLD (Wooden Lung Disease) in these parts from all that dust we kicked up. “If you or any of your loved ones attended IU games before Assembly Hall’s construction…”Yeah if only there were only, like, 8 teams each year who had a chance to win the title each year, no 3 pointer, no night games, no games on sunday, etc.
You know, when nOrthwestern was 1-15 each season, nobody was good but us and maybe Mich, PU.
you know, the 1970 and 80s. Last century.
