Welp, McNeeley’s out

If he doesn't have the power to do his job, then this administration is more f***ed up than I thought.

Well if the rumors are true, and what little public evidence is out there leads me to believe they are true, then he has been overruled in letting Woodson go and coerced ( at best) into hiring Woodson.

So the IU administration is basically the Mafia?

It would appear that one person is forcing the issue in terms of Woodson. He has some power but I do not understand why it appears he has as much as it appears he does and it distresses me that he is not putting IU ahead of his friend. I have NO inside knowledge.

This almost has to be a sign there’s gonna be a mass exodus of players.
I actually think the opposite, at least of the top 5-6. Galloway and Mgbako still on the roster would be problematic for McNeeley IMO. I could be wrong, but I think McNeeley has had Bill Self in his ear for awhile now and sees the writing on the wall at Indiana. Hell, we don’t even know what the roster is going to look like in 3 weeks. For a kid that can go anywhere he wants, and probably wants to be a 1-and-done, he definitely wants to play in the tournament and have a shot at a title.

I know it's Self, but are coaches allowed to continue to recruit committed, signed players?

You could be right. The team looks quite a lot more bought in, especially with and for each other, than I would have ever thought they’d be. Very possible there’s a core group that’s going to return. That could even be leading to Woody returning?

I just was thinking McNeeley, since he kept his commitment this long, was on board with joining…whatever IU is. So him decommitting is a sign he now knows something different?

At this point, I believe Bill Self can do anything he pleases. And do it with that trademark smirk on his face. Man, he’s damn good at it.

Could McNeeley simply be.shopping for more money?
He is doing that. But he’s going to get it, AND play for a good team next year. Hard to blame him.

Also, assuming it’s Kansas, Furphy is a pretty good blue print for McNeeley getting to the NBA.

How would Galloway (he comes back) affect McNeeley?
It isn't like they play the same position!
The rest of your post is spot on!

Too bad we are going to lose Mr. McFeely (Xavier Johnson) and Mr. McNeely both! LOL.

Smart move. No way I would want to walk into what is a sure fire shit show next season in Bloomington... and literally nobody else joining.

Woodson needs to be dismissed immediately following the end of the season. I fully expect a serious exodus of current players.

Dolson needs to follow him (you shouldn't get a redo on your failure) and Buckner needs either removed from the BOT or at least walled off from any decision making.

Likely none of these things will happen, because.... It's Indiana
Nice summary Clapper. 😂

Kansas bound. Bet.
I'd bet on that too. There were some back channel things going on. I'm sure once his buddy Queen decided IU wasn't his place, LM probably was more open to other options. The timing makes me wonder if he was hoping to save face and reopen if Woodson was fired. Then it would have looked better on him. Once IU backed Woodson, he decided he has to decommit this way. If this was organic, the three game winning streak and the development of Mbacko would have mattered. My opinion...

Other sites saying CMW hasn’t talked to Liam since he signed and Liam not a fan of CMW’s offense (smart kid).

Also wondering if any of the coaching staff is leaving (Walsh?).

McNeeley is a definite 1 and done. He has one year to improve his draft stock, and where better to do it on a perennial top 5 team with huge TV exposure. It's Kansas. Just watch.

I saw Dolson last night at the state HS indoor track qualifiers meet in Gladstein...he appeared very happy, shaking hands with everyone and seemingly jovial. It may be true he was just out having a good time like the rest of us freak track parent/fans, but he honestly looked upbeat.
