At a recent CPAC panel, Jack Prosobiec actually said this to open his talk:

“Welcome to the end of democracy. We are here to overthrow it completely,” Posobiec said as the event began.

“We didn’t get all the way there on January 6, but we will endeavor to get rid of it and replace it with this, right here,” he said, gesturing to the crowd and holding up his fist.

Posobiec then said, to cheers from the audience, “All glory is not to government. All glory to God.”

Some people are suggesting he said it sarcastically. Maybe. Given that he's an idiot who got famous for spreading the whole PizzaGate conspiracy it's a wonder why he's even on stage at CPAC. Also, the fact that no one is actually sure if it's clearly a joke or not says something. Again, this guy is an idiot, so who knows when he means what he says?

That’s some Grade A trolling right there.

Good post and kudos for posting it knowing you'll get a lot of blowback from water cooler MAGA.

Guy is a dirtbag and a favorite of Trump.

They're not even trying to hide it anymore.

Here's the thing. There are millions of people who either don't give a shit about democracy or actually prefer an autocratic regime. They're mostly pro-Trump.

Finally, I'm a church-going Christian but this blending of religion and politics (i.e. Christian Nationalism) is fvcked up. It wasn't Sinclair Lewis, but some author aptly noted: "When fascism comes to America it will be wrapped in the flag and carrying a cross."

Did you ever read Philip Roth's novel "The Plot Against America" or see the HBO series a few years ago? Lindbergh and his "America First" rallies? Some of this shit is eerily reminiscent.

He was being sarcastic clearly. The Dems are not. But let me guess. "That's different"

If Trump wins legitimately, I'd hope that what Raskin is saying here doesn't come to pass. That said, I can't read the entire article you linked because you need to be a subscriber to the Atlantic to do so.

That said, it's hard knowing if Jack Prosebiec is ever being sarcastic. He's an idiot who will say anything for his brand and to get clicks. It's not clear that he was being sarcastic, but it is clear that he's a moronic click whore.

I haven't seen or read that, but I'll check it out.

And to your point about him bringing up religion and God while holding up his fist - that wouldn't seem like sarcasm to me. Under a certain lens, that could be blasphemy if he's joking about it.

Yeah, sarcasm my ass. They're saying exactly what they intend to do. Stephen Miller and Trump's campaign manager (can't think of his name) have articulated similar themes. This is seriously fvcked up. They must lose.

Trump again (yesterday) said "I'm being indicted for you." Like he's Jesus. And MAGA roars in approval.

As I've said about Trump's statements that he would be a dictator on day one:

How do those words come out of his mouth if he doesn't mean it?

It’s clickbait fear porn from a dickhead because he knows it will send guys like you into spastic convulsions.

I know if I wanted to end democracy(whatever that means), the first thing I would do is tell the whole world I want to end democracy. 😂

Disagree, although your "whatever that means" is actually insightful. The fact that there's some ambiguity around the concept can help facilitate its destruction.

What Trump's guys are doing is setting the table, drumming up support and, to an extent, desensitizing people. There's no downside to talking about ending democracy, particularly when the most powerful person in the Party has your back.

If democracy ends, it won't be as a result of a bloody coup and it won't happen overnight. It will happen over time, with the weakening of institutions, continued denigration of the justice system, expanded presidential power, the undermining of elections and the election process, disregard of election results and the weakening of the Constitution. We've seen some of this already from the head of the Party. It will be exponentially more prevalent in a second term.

If we flip to an autocratic regime, there won't be some sudden national epiphany like, "Oh shit, our government has changed!" Things will still seem the same on the surface. Elections will still take place, but they won't mean much. The Constitution won't be officially "terminated" (where have I heard that term before in the context of the Constitution?) or suspended, but it will mean less and less.

There's much that's been written about how democracies die. Trump and his cronies are giving us a preview.

It is what I have said about Israel. I wish Israel would behave differently but when someone says they are going to kill you you have no choice but to believe them.

When one says they want to end democracy, we have no choice but to believe them.

Nice, but a little creepy in a stalker type way that I’m on your mind.

I’m pretty sure there is a big difference between Hamas and Republicans.

Do the people at that convention speak for all Republicans? I certainly never said that, you seem to be suggesting it.

If a person or group says they want to kill you, or they want to destroy democracy, believe it. If the Republicans put that in their platform, so be it.

In what way. A man addresses a major political convention and tells them he wants to destroy democracy. Your takeaway is I have lost my mind. That says a hell of a lot about you.

IF (If if if if) someone addressed a meeting of progressives and said we should send populists to Russia, you would be smart to take them at their word. If if if if if someone said they wanted to kill you, you would be smart to take them at their word.

If you opt not to, we might discuss if you are in your right mind.

You're not being truthful. Dangling from his fist was a necklace with a cross. He then added, "All glory is not to government. All glory to God!"

Yeah, sure. It was just trolling. Satire. A joke. Funny, though, that it was taken seriously by many in attendance. One guy, Tommy Tatum, who was working the "Jan 6 Legal Defense Fund" table at CPAC, commented after Posobiec's little speech: "Democracy is evil. Democracy is mob rule!"

And it looks like Posobiec doubled down with the "comedy" today: "After we burn that swamp to the ground, we will establish the new American republic on its ashes, and our first order of business will be righteous retribution for those who betrayed America." That's a real knee-slapper.

You should believe one but not the other?
In my absence, I've missed what has been said about Trump claiming that he quite frankly did win the 2020 election. Is there a cliff notes version?

If any of his attempts to overturn the election would have been successful, our democracy, by definition, would have ended.

Jan 6 was an attempted insurrection and our democracy held by a thread. Trump is a clear and present danger. If elected he’ll be a dictator who will only leave office in a stretcher. Signed the left

Jan 6 was a riot that was over before Happy Hour at Applebees. Trump left office and stayed within the system to challenge his loss, which he lost 61-0. Today he still operates within the system as evidenced by his surrendering to courts. The threat to democracy is fear mongering from the left to distract from Biden’s shitty presidency, the true threat to our democracy. Signed the right

I honestly did not notice that. Doesn’t change anything though. All glory is to God. You’re a Christian. You believe that just as I do.

Ehh. It’s no different from Letitia James calling Trump an “illegitimate president” at a rally and then prosecuting him on the flimsiest of charges. You have no problem with that.

He’s still trolling you, dude. Seriously. Calm down. Trumps not aiming to turn this country into a theocracy. Hell, he’s not even religious. 😂

This was a massive troll job and it worked magnificently.

All glory is to God. You’re a Christian. You believe that just as I do.
Of course but that kind of commentary is inappropriate at a political rally unless it's clergy offering a prayer or invocation at the beginning or end. And who the hell is this guy? An antisemitic, pro-Putin, lying conspiracy theorist, white supremacist sympathizer. Doesn't sound very Christian to me. But I get what's going on here. It's part and parcel of the Christian Nationalist movement that's within MAGA.

She talks too much. She had a strong case, she got the win and she should let the case speak for itself. That said, the comparison you're trying to make is out of left field. Those are entirely different situations.

Trumps not aiming to turn this country into a theocracy. Hell, he’s not even religious.
Correct on the first point. He's not interested in a theocracy. He wants an autocracy. But you're wrong about his faith. He is definitely religious - - during election season. Lol. He referred to himself at CPAC as "a proud Christian." What a joke. He probably couldn't quote a single passage from the New Testament. And his behavior throughout his adult life? Not very Christ-like.
