We have a verdict -- Guilty on ALL counts

Because he's not in their party. They don't have control of the Senate.
Doesn’t matter what party they belong to. You can still call for an idiot like Menendez to resign. Weren’t there a lot of members from both parties calling for Santos to retire?

The problem now is the door has been opened. And it won’t be shut again.

It’ll be absolute chaos if Trump somehow does get elected.
That is kind of my expectation. I believe he will be reelected and he and his people will be on a revenge tour the likes this country has never seen. And this verdict today will make them feel vindicated in everything they do...and a whole bunch of people on this side of the aisle aren't going to be bothered to entertain the complaints about "muh norms" and "muh democracy" from the same types who are cheering and laughing in this thread.

This was the equivalent of Harry Reid blowing up the filibuster. I think it is going to come back to bite a whole bunch of people on the ass. Like better not have even parking tickets type of situation because every little inconsistency in anything a politician does is going to be reason for Trump to prosecute his enemies. And frankly, convictions don't even matter. I think most people in Washington have dirt, just the prosecution alone to drag their dirt into public is the punishment. We took a step towards banana republic today and I completely expect to continue down that road next year.

Yep and the next “Trump” will be smarter and more prepared than Donald. Democrats went too far. People have long memories.

Getting even will be fun to watch.

As I just said, as bad as it was before, it would be even worse for the country now. And this is what you’ve been rooting for.
I liked this post until you added the last sentence.

I've been rooting for Trump to be held to account after he tried to overthrow the election and the transition of power. Then the gloves came off. If he'd just accepted defeat and ridden off into the sunset I would have been fine.

Rikers on Election Day? What utter nonsense. Merchan isn’t going to impose a prison sentence and, even if he did, Trump would be out on bail pending appeal.

Have you had a brain transplant with dmb? You're usually not this degree of wacky, I almost think you're trolling...

Merchan is not going to sentence Trump to prison. The most he'll probably get is probation. If Merchan had wanted to jail Trump he'd have done so over the gag order/ contempt violations. If it had been any other accused felon pulling the stunts that Trump has repeatedly pulled they'd already have been sitting in a cell for a night or two. Judges don't usually tolerate that kind of crap.

When the time comes, you'd think that there has to be some kind of restriction of freedom. He won't end up behind bars, but surely his movements will be "inconvenienced" to some extent, don't you think?
Wait, I thought you guys WANTED Trump thrown in jail.

Now you don’t?

That doesn’t change anything, Mark.

This is still exactly what you’ve been rooting for.

Justifying it in your own mind doesn’t change the reality.

It would be great if he goes to jail. But wealth, power privilege, and the threat of right wing violence all work in his favor. I am not sure of the sentencing precedence. First time felon, you'd think not. But how many 1st time felons were convicted on 34 felonies?

If by this you mean now, under today's circumstances, then yes, this is what I've been rooting for. It may be bad for the country, but letting him off Scot-free would be worse, and reelecting him will be worse still.

34 is all the same shit. I cringe every time you write that

Martha Stewart actually went to jail, right? Insider trading... how many counts?she seems a lot less crimey than the Don.

I don't expect to get locked up for a speeding ticket. But for 34 speeding tickets? I might be on a stainless steel toilet and going for walks in the yard.

You wanted him convicted but not thrown in jail. You wanted him convicted because you think it will keep him from being elected. You want the justice system to help do what you’re afraid your fellow Americans won’t.

Thats not good for the country regardless of how you try to spin it.

Kaitlin asked him about getting paid, and he assured her that yes, he was getting paid.

I wonder how long that lasts. Trump will have to blame somebody.
I should turn over to Alex Wagner. It must be an orgy on MSNBC. But I can't remember what channel that is. No Rachel every night? No spot in my favorites list on the Directv remote.
