I'll defend it. Virginia created a purge program that not only plainly violated federal law, but also wrongly removed citizens from the voter rolls because of outdated or incorrect information. The fraud is all on your side on this one.
Why shouldn’t the court take evidence on that point?
Va allows for provisional ballots as a fail-safe measure.
If they’re actually non-citizens they can’t vote and should be removed from voter rolls. If they’re actually ID’d as non-citizens on the rolls they still won’t be able to vote even if on the rolls. There has to be more to this story. It won’t have any impact in the end.
The court did take evidence. That's why it ruled the way it did.

They weren't ID'd as non-citizens on the rolls, but rather at the BMV. Say someone gets a license as a non-citizen, then gets naturalized and registers to vote. This person can vote legally, but Virginia would purge them, anyway.
It appears, as always, that the devil is in the details, and different stories are coming from the two sides.
Make no mistake, non-citizens should not be allowed to vote.
Fact: There is a law that eligible voter lists are frozen 90 days before an election. After that is called a quiet period. Why? A last minute decision to remove people by mistake would deny them an opportunity to appeal, and voting is a constitutional right for US citizens.
The judge decided that, following the law, this couldn't be done in the quiet period. Supporting the decision was evidence that indeed mistakes were made here. At least 3 people deleted from the voter rolls file with the court documents confirming PROOF OF THEIR US CITIZENSHIP.

I don't think Virginia is really going to matter one way or the other.
Let me put it this way, if Trump would win in Virginia but for these voters that apparently shouldn't have the right to vote, he'll be way past 270 without Virginia.

The handful of votes affected is not what matters. This litigation is a watershed event in state authority to do elections.
They refused to let Virginia break the law by purging voter rolls in the quiet period, and part of that decision was based on evidence they took that at least 3 people being purged were US citizens legally allowed to vote

I haven’t read the details of the hearing and order, but if 3 voters were able to establish eligibility, WTF is the problem?
Probably cost him the election. Those were the fake voters that were going to swing PA his way.
In all seriousness, it's unlikely anyone was going to use these registrations to cast fake votes. Much more likely is that some canvassers who were being paid per registration filled out some extra lines in order to get paid more money. Of course, that's still illegal and wrong, and can cause serious problems, so I hope they are identified and punished, and I also hope whichever PAC is behind their efforts is also punished for severe lack of oversight.
