Two Words - Steve Alford

If y’all got rid of Archie, and Steve Alford wasn’t interested, who would you want? Don’t say stevens or Donovan cause that’s not happening. I think a guy that would be a great coach for you guys would be Bobby Hurley. He’s a damn good coach that wins everywhere he goes. Would you guys want him?

jesus christ. just stop with the new coach talk aleady. he's not even completed year 2. he's playing with a roster full of creans turds. some of you are hysterical. archie will be just fine when he gets his guys. right now he's running in another man's shoes. and no i am not crowning him yet, as he does have a lot to prove, but my god i am going to give him a legitimate chance.
Hoping you're right but the lackadaisical play, the turnovers, the poor defense at times ... not good.

No thank you because I hate watching him coach on the sidelines and he has not done a thing.

Don’t want Alford as coach, but posts like this bug me. What do you mean gross? I’ve noticed this trend of people on the internet referring to opinions they disagree with as “gross”. Annoys the hell out of me. Decomposing flesh, bodily fluids, certain foods, odors, etc. can be gross. Things you disagree with might be wrong, dumb, etc., but not “gross”. Where did this get started?

BTW-Sorry for the digression, but it beats talking about the game right now.
gross

michigan doesn't have NEARLY the basketball tradition we do? they have played in as many ncaa championship games as indiana, if not more. just haven't won as many. i'd say that's pretty near
how about high school basketball in Michigan? any tradition there coach?

Gotta give Miller couple more years i would think..

he is available. Let’s do this thing.

Indiana would be a laughingstock if it fired Archie Miller after two years for Steve Alford.

I think IU is the best job in the B1G but I’m forty years old. What happened 20-30 years ago is irrelevant for kids today.

Michigan had losing records after two of Beilein’s first three years. MSU didn’t make the NCAA tournament in Izzo’s first two years. Jay Wright needed four years to get Villanova to the tournament.

Not saying Archie will eventually have that success but he has the resume to have earned at least four years.

IU has not been the best job in the big ten in a long time or big name coaches would have been lined up to come here.

Chris Holtman. Hell do we even know if hes any good?
Matt Hopkins would be a hell of a steal from Washington also. He’s getting top recruits. I’d it were me, I’d do anything to get Bobby Hurley. He did play for Indiana in that movie blue chips and he wins everywhere he goes. I’d like to have him as a HC

Spot on answer. He’s a very good coach. We may not win it all every year, but we are in the hunt almost every year. You guys should steal Ohio states head coach.

No, hes saying we could get Cal, just wouldn't want him. I'd take Crean over Cal. Archie over all of them.

We aren't UNC, not even close.

They hadn't missed a tourney for like 25 years prior to Doherty and had been in 7 final fours in the 11 years before he started. They also had a heir apparant, proven high level guy waiting in the wings. Basically the polar opposite of IU.
People need to face reality that IU is just another P5 basketball program. We aren't a blue blood and haven't been for a quarter century and counting.

Michigan is probably the closest parallel to IUs situation. And Bielien didn't start to win anything until his 5th year. I honestly don't think you'd see IU make a move until after the 5th year, unless things are spiralling worse and worse each season. A premature firing would basically be the final death nail for this program.
Lol

Say what you want about Alford, and I didn't want him over Archie either, but there is no way he would be doing worse at this point in his tenure. Absolutely no way.

No way I would want Alford anywhere near the IU job. We do not want a rape excuser as a coach. If a coach is going to be immoral than by God he had better be a hell of a coach. He is far from that.

I'd take Crean over Cal.

That's just downright stupid.

Look, say what you want about Calipari's methods. I never have been a fan of the OAD strategy. But you can't argue with its results....so much so that even the vaunted and venerable Coach K is employing it (maybe even better than Cal, who forged the path).

The best Crean could ever achieve, in 9 years here, was an appearance in a Sweet 16 with a team that featured two of the top 4 picks in the NBA Draft, no less. And, frankly, that team had to scrape and claw to make it past the 2nd round.

Just a month ago or so, the guy lost 4 games in a row, two of them at home to Belmont and liberty, with a team that has much more talent than iu. And he lost his job. Wtf is wrong with some of you?

There isnt some magical thing that will happen if alford coached at iu. The track record is there. We have over 20 years of evidence that he isn't an elite coach.

Could not agree more!

And I would not. Opinions like these blow my mind, this holier than thou bs just makes no sense. It's just an excuse some fans make for all of the losing and it's a loser's mentality.

Holier than thou? Meh? Who is holier and where on earth did that nonsense come from? I am talking about the lack of success with the amount of talent. He was like Crean on steroids. Heck, wasn't Crean like .500 against Cal? Were the teams of equal talent? Cal was afraid to play IU. ha Its a logical comparison.

The only thing that matters are results. At Kentucky he's been to four final 4s with a title. Sure he's underachieved, but recruiting is a major part of coaching and Crean hasn't even sniffed that kind of success in either category.

5 straight years of a Mickey D isn't "sniffing that kind of success in recruiting"?

Man this board needs a win like a fish needs water.

Unfortunately, we may have another home court asswhoopin coming tomorrow night.
We need two wins straight before the annual 30 point beatdown in East Lansing. I sadly do not think we will win two straight but I guess miracles can happen.

Kentucky gets 4-5 every year, Crean never had more than 1 in a given year. All in all it doesn't matter, case in point. Calipari has consistent success, Crean does not. It's all about results.
