I thought Luke Goode was a decent 3 point shooter at Illinois. He guns and he guns but none go in. He rebounds okay but that is about all he adds.

I hope he gets himself righted or I could see his minutes wane. Leal can provide more than that. Once they play better teams, IU can ill afford to have him launching zeros.

He'll get going........he's doing more in terms of moving the ball and rebounding than I expected. He's also working hard on D. I like him more than Kopp.

The thread title you so brilliantly created and your premise are both dumb.
As in D.U.M.B.

Yeah, but he doesn't make shots, I hope that part kicks in soon. This team could play smaller and play less of Goode. I hope he hits a big one next week and gets going.

Like most I think Mgbako is a 4. The more games I watch the more certain I am of that. I also believe that line-ups, rotations and minutes should be a "what have you done for me lately" situation. Including Goose, we have an 8 player rotation.

The rotation might be as you say "what have you done for me lately", but bear in mind that includes practices for the coaching staff.

Until Humrichous has to guard faster and more athletic wings. Trade offs with everything. But sure, Humrichous is probably a more effective outside shooter.
If he is asked to do that..he is starting at the 4 for Illinois. 9/20 from 3 so far.

Might not ever come to light...but Underwood's normal higher pressure defense could end up exposing Humrichous a little bit more than it would have Goode. The trade off of better shooting may also be worth the dip in perimeter defense as well.

Possibly…scoring vs defense…opposing 4’s have to guard him on the perimeter also. IU will need to go small with maybe MM guarding him instead of Malik

Not much difference in career 3 point shooting. Goode actually made more last year with a slightly lower %. He’s a Hoosier so give me him.

MM isn't that much smaller than MR. Same height 10 lbs. Not sure he's quicker either.

Goode was not some kind of crazy sharpshooter at Illinois. He'll make one or two per game on average. He won't go for 17 or something like that. He's a nice rotation piece that will help keep a lead when he comes in. But he's not some kind of instant offense or someone that will stretch leads or make up deficits.

But he does space the floor regardless if he shoots or not, unless the opposing team wants to gamble on him consistently missing.

He's a decent athlete. He takes care of the ball reasonably well. He can rebound pretty well for a wing. And he's a shooting threat. He'll have a game here and there where he makes 2-3 of them...but even when he doesn't, other teams likely won't play off him too much. And that should leave some space for others to attack. As you said, he's a nice depth rotation piece. Galloway and Tucker are the guys that are capable of impacting games off the bench scoring wise. Goode helps keep the rotation solid.

Right. He's a nice player, but I don't think some of the expectations for him I read here are in line with what he's done in his career. Someone in another thread hoped for maybe one three per half from him. That's more realistic I think.

Exactly. Just a good basketball player coming off the bench with some nice length and the capability to hit a few shots. But he'll help grab a board or two, hustle on defense and, like you and TMP said, space the floor because you don't want to bet that he'll miss wide open looks.

Yea I agree with you he's a role player, and that role is shooting 3s and spacing the floor. Perfect for the 8th man in the rotation.

and in situations where they double from wing spots, a perfect counter to pair him with Mack on one side, and him on the other. Either gamble or double from somewhere else.

I think Carlyle may also turn out to be good enough in that role also.

I like Mack’s feet on D this year. Sliding much better. Better than Malik I’d say at guarding wings on the perimeter.
He also understands where to position much better than last year. You can always tell when they aren't so sure when they have happy feet and dancing. He doesn't do that anymore, he understands where he needs to be and how far he can cover.

Really like what he has become.
