So I was shocked in 2008 when BO actually won the state, and I thought that demonstrated some real growth and reason for hope.Nothing "leftist", just more centrist and not just right wing tomfoolery...
But then the Pubs used gerrymandering to absolutely co-opt power in 2011, and it's been back to the wasteland ever since. Heading in to 2010 the state's Congressional districts were split 5-4 (Dem) and in the state legislature the Dems enjoyed a 52-48 lead, while the pubs controlled the Senate. Very representative of a pretty equal split in voting percentage, in a state where BO had narrowly won in 2008.
Most of us had settled in to the concept of split government, although the GOP did pick up 2 Dem House seats in 2010, so it went from 5-4 Dems, to 5-4 GOP. Nothing too ugly people were being fairly represented. Wasted votes was not a huge problem...
But then the Pubs took control of the statehouse , utilized gerrymandering to build a supermajority and shift voters around so that what was a 1 seat difference in Congressional delegation ultimately became a 7-2 Dem deficit that disenfranchised millions and basically killed the dem party in IN. So back to the political wasteland...
I guess that's why a 2021 study by Dr Chris Warshaw which analyzed data from all 50 states found that in terms of political gerrymandering IN ranked worse than 95% of all states....This wasn't Warshaw (from George Washington U) picking on the IN GOP. His analysis encompassed and ranked each state, and IN was easily among the 5 worst in (either Dem or GOP) terms of abusing gerrymandering...

Where does this myth about Trump's universal popularity emerge from? His average (Gallup) approval rating during the course of his presidencey was (at the time) a record low 41%. Fox news has created this myth that people loved Trump and his policies were popular, but that it was just his temperment that people didn't like.
Yet in both elections, esp the 2018 midterms where Trump's/MAGA policies were on the ballot they were soundly rejected. Compare how GOP and Trump's policies did in 2018 with how the Dems and Dem policies were received by voters in 2022. Trump's policies were popular with die hard MAGA, but for the rest of the country he was the main issue people could coalesce against.
A lot of MAGA types never grasped that. That's why so many of them were eager to embrace the Big Lie, and many still believe that the only way "Dear leader" could lose was if he was cheated and the election was stolen from him...

Trump never had a chance to be president. Less than a day after his inauguration an influential media outlet spoke of impeachment. Almost simultaneously with inauguration, massive marches and demonstrations dotted the country while Democrat rioters burned vehicles in the nations capital. Everything went downhill from there.
