Trump acceptance speech thread.

I'm confident the majority of the country would happily vote none of the above.
I'm 52. Not a politics guy. But my goodness. Is this really the best this country has to offer? Seriously? With that being said, I'd take Trumpo. Just because he seems less likely to die first; unless of course the dems hire a better shooter net time. Then it gets dicey.

Give the man a break. He’s just had half his ear vaporized and is on pain meds. Be thankful he’s not lying in state, confined to a silk-lined casket in the Capital Building’s rotunda, eyes closed for eternity.
Well…..

Biden gave the worse debate performance in Presidential debate history, while Trump gave the worst speech in Presidential nomination acceptance speech history.

You’d think the general public would not want either man to be the next President. Oh, wait.
Biden is too old. Trump is too old, possibly mental and a horrible excuse for a human being. There's no equivalency. I don't care if they put an empty chair as Trump's opponent. Give me a booth the chair gets my vote.. The rhetoric he and his campaign has adjacently spewed for ten years - that his supporters state doesn't exist - and the groups and people he attracts as supporters ensures that.

I don't support Biden, I don't hate him either.. but I sure in the hell would never vote for someone with Trump's flawed character. He's not a leader. He's not a follower. He's in it for himself first and foremost.

With this 5 year research plan, costing less than one new Carmel roundabout, our team of 40 research professors will identify potential new therapies for Ebola, Marburg, Denge, Lassa, and Machupo viruses, all of which are listed as pandemic potential viruses of concern
I wish you luck.... easy to say but hard to do. Pharmaceutical companies are not that interested in things like that and that's too bad but I understand their reasoning. Hopefully someone is working on a new antibiotic because a lot of bugs are becoming resistant to the current antibiotics.

A lot of noxious “bugs” are becoming resistant to antibiotics because antibiotics have been over- prescribed. Antibiotics have been over-prescribed because of monetary incentive, aided by everyone’s desire for a quick fix.

I get a kick out of all the funny names drug companies give to new drugs on the market. It seems like new TV commercials come out with new one’s almost weekly. Many of these different drugs have the same affect on the body, but they repackage it under a different name for each specific ailment. Case in point, the chemical compound we know of commercially as Viagra was initially a heart drug designed to open the body’s flow of blood through the circulatory system. Well, since man’s sexual apparatus has such well-endowed vascularity (think “the blue-veined monster”) men using it for heart conditions reported stiffer woodies than remembered during more youthful encounters. Heart patients still take the same chemical compound, but it’s not marketed as Viagra, Cialis, Tadalafil, etc. Why? Bigger “bang” for the fuc…excuse me, buck!

Man’s position in life as seen through the eyes of the world is measured by the size of his cache of money squirreled away for another day…money at the root of all evil. Isn’t it ironic, like meeting the woman of your dreams and then being introduced to her well “packaged” husband, your boss.

Ah, I can see it’s the start of another beautiful day with nothing left to do. And so the day begins, much like any other day in retirement. Your day will come.

Wait staff don’t want what you’re talking about. They make more pay counting tips than they would ever make with hourly pay.

I typically tip 50-100%. Sometimes wait staff asks if I am sure and try to return part of the tip. Usually I add more if they do that. No better feeling than tipping drive up window cashier $100 bill.

My Owning a restaurant caused me to develop soft spot for wait staff. Affected my dad too. Before owning a restaurant he would throw some quarters or couple dollars on the table. He started at least tipping 15%.
And, aren't tipped employees subject to a special, much-lower minumum wage law (something like $2.50 to $3 per hour) instead of what the public generally understands to be the "minimum wage"?

So let's get ahead of this and be ready next time.

As for your second point, I bet you already think pharma prices are too high, your solution only makes that worse. We have budgets for CDC and other health related services, use some of those funds, but don't kill the research for political theater
Maybe healthcare would be better right now if certain people lived up to their campaign promises eight years ago to fix the healthcare system.

You know twenty, I used to think that too. I think a lot of Mitch Rs were naively (arrogantly?) just assuming we were the majority in the party. We clearly are not. Frankly, the current R majority is hostile to the moderate R.

I will admit that my perspective is colored by what’s happening in Indiana, but the presidential primary seems to indicate its widespread.

Within the party re: primaries... Definitely agree with you. But primary voters are a small slice of the general population. In Indiana, turnout for the primary was like 20%....and that was with a competitive Gov primary.

My comment was about the general population. Not the diehard primary voter.

Believe it or not there is a lot that goes into picking a name. They never want a one syllable name. They spend lots of money coming up with the brand name.

I imagine a corporate, smoke-filled back room with a bunch of white coats having fun debating newly branded drugs for market. I always thought Viagra was a particularly descriptive one, reeking of “vitality”. Some of these names have gotten so ridiculous and are being marketed at such speed even the doctors have to refer to their latest, on-line PDR to figure out all that they do, wanted and unwanted.

$2.13 per hour. If waitress/waiter doesn’t report enough tips to meet minimum wage requirements, employer has to make up difference.

Also if wait staff doesn’t report at least 8% of sales in tips, employer must devise method to allocate underreported amount to wait staff W-2s.

But if wait staff maintain a daily diary of tips collected that ties to tips reported to their employer, they can ignore allocated tips and not include them when filing their income tax returns.

I gave our waitresses tip books and told them to take the time to maintain it and quit bitching about allocated tips.

At our restaurant I observed waitresses at the end of the evening when they were counting their tips and talking to other waitresses about their tips for the day. As a general rules they did much better than 8% of sales.

It has been a campaign promise for as long as I can remember.

Mark Cuban said it best.

You don’t think there’s a difference telling your 17 year old daughter she looks sexy v. telling her she looks beautiful?!? Yikes.
If they’re truly sexy, it doesn’t need to be said. Some things are just understood with no spoken thought preceding.

The President is always our President whether you like him or not.
I didn't start the not my president thing. That began in 2016. The big difference is biden may have the title but he's not the shot caller. So no, he isn't my president. He can be yours if you want.

I've never liked biden. He was only VP as an insurance policy and I didn't like him before that.

FWIW I didn't harbor the same feelings about Obama.

It started way before that.

I had a Spanish teacher in the 80s who insisted Reagan wasn’t “his” President. People said the same about GWB and Obama.

I think most had issue with this:

Govt:

No mask. Shut your business down. Except big box stores.

No mask. No entry to any place.

No mask. Get fined or arrested.

No vax. Get out of the military.

No vax. Fired from nursing.

No vax. Just die already.

No vax. You're killing people.

Eat healthy, exercise? Crickets.
Actually, most people were public-spirited and complied.

What’s happening in Indiana that is so bad? The economy is growing. The population is growing. And it’s happening even though we have almost zero natural benefits compared to a lot of other states. It’s a flat, land locked state, with not a great climate. Yet, people are moving here because we have good governance (compared to other states).

It's not "public-spirited" with the government threatening to fine, jail, or fire you.
I disagree entirely. Most of those who complied were motivated by something else. I doubt Average Joe Six Pack even knew the legal penalty for non-compliance.

Under your logic, the only reason people don't commit murder is "the government threatening to fine, jail, or fire you.". The reality is that most people would not take a life even in the absence of such laws.

I agree with you and I think he realized it after he said it. The second time he said beautiful. My guess is he was trying to say he’s sexy and then realized afterwards he inferred his daughter was, which is why he switched.

I think you misunderstood my original post. The topic was MAGA by OS, basically saying they were anti-science. I am saying they are anti-dictatorial.

So, when I was saying "most", I was referring to MAGA, not the general population.

Glad to bring you up to speed on the discussion.

It's also being anti-contradiction. Nothing was standardized or logical. Most of these rules were just made up on the fly by politicians, not scientists.

Trust the experts is about as dumb as "because it's the law" or "because I said so". The world is filled with things that are dumb or simply wrong. In the end people chose to believe what they wanted to, to feel good about themselves.

The other things that annoyed me was this whole, do it for others, save lives blah blah blah. One, I am not responsible for anyone but myself, family and friends. There is no number two. Of course I'll help people, and have, if the opportunity presents itself.

I think one should be able to assume that the fire dept that hired him would have spelled his name correctly on the jacket but apparently not.

Don't pretend Trump or the GOP actually care for him. It was a political stunt. They got to it right after Trump went golfing.

I agree. Not to mention the experts sage advice was wear panties on your face, don’t get too close, and stay home if you’re sick.
