What happened to all of your Archie guarantees?

i guess you don't know the diff between bold predictions and guarantees. that's stone-cold dumb.

other things we've some to realize you don't know:

  • college basketball
  • the fundamentals of basketball
  • statistics
  • anyone with any sway at IU
  • what Billy Donovan looks like
  • how to make and keep friends
i'm guessing we'll continue to unravel this onion daily

Call them what you want, were they right or dead wrong? If they were wrong, could they possibly be more wrong if they tried?

"
possibly be more wrong if they tried" - kinda like you in all these "we're gonna make huge offers to elite coaches" claims?

Cryptic tweet

So, freepee, who's the big name coach IU is now gonna get after firing Archie 2 years in? Remember, we were (according to you ) gonna make a HUGE offer last time?

How'd that work out? And since we didn't get the big fish with all that dough last time, just WHY would we be able to do it now?

Are we certain that this is coaching? Could we have hired the worst possible coaches in the past 20 years? It is puzzling, but don't know what else it could be either...I do know this, even a team coming off the harshest penalties by the NCAA would not go 1-12 in the last 13.

Why are we listing coaches to replace Archie. I understand he took over a dumpster fire of a program. Now the fans are freaking out 40 games into the rebuild. Is he planning to move West and take over the UCLA job and set IU even further back. Maybe he wants to get away from this trainwreck program and to coach out West with big bro. Don't you find it interesting the losing started shortly after Alford was fired. It's not the coach it's the program that needs overhauled.

My top 5 candidates, based on their obvious knowledge of the game, and the workings of big time D1 athletics:

(in no particular order)

1. victorbear (Time out coach)
2. fpeaugh (Booster Coach)
3. bailey777 (Culture Coach)
4. Big Red Crimson Buffalo (Offensive Coach)
5. cryano (Defensive Coach)

Oh, and Ksteph for cheerleader coach.

(Edited to make better)

Tony Bennett would be worst case scenario.

I’m fine trying another young up and comer if it comes to that. Anything but the status quo.

Dumpster fire of a program? What cave have you been living in? We won the Big Ten one year before he arrived.

Let's pretend just for the sake of argument, long ago, instead of coaching IU, coach Knight signed on to coach OSU.

How many National Championships would IU have if this happened?

Is it the school or the coach?

Shouldn't a "great basketball school" make a decent coach good, a good coach great, a great coach legendary? So following that thinking, if a coach doesn't succeed at IU then...….

So Archie should get fired for not playing Yogi, Troy, OG, Max, Bryant, JBJ, Zeisloft?

Thankfully, we would all agree they need to be fired after year 2.

Personally, I think it probably already is lost....in the sense that I’ve lost hope that we’ll ever again be what we were. Not in my lifetime, anyway.

I still support the program 100% —in good times and bad. So it’s not as if I’m a fair-weather fan. Just realistic and weary of feeling let down by unfulfilled expectations. Stock market watchers call it capitulation.

I do agree that we shouldn’t fire a coach after just 2 seasons. But let’s also not forget that the last one got 9 seasons — despite results that were uneven and underachieving even during the couple of highest water seasons.

So, yeah, there are dangers in cutting bait too soon. There are also dangers in waiting too long — because that sends a message that underperformance is acceptable.

Personally, I think that Archie should be informed that the results to date are nothing short of unacceptable and that he has one more season to correct that. If he has another lackluster year and gets more time, I think we’ll be in the territory of essentially saying that subpar results are, while not desired, also not cause for termination.

I don’t think Archie and staff are just sitting around playing cards and letting the team do as it pleases. There are no people on the face of the earth that are more committed to getting this turned around than they are. Informing him the results are nothing short of unacceptable and that he has one season to correct that would probably get you laughed out of his office.

Romeo is a lottery pick, Yogi was not.
Romeo is a better prospect but I’ll take Yogi as a senior in college. Both great players. Still can’t believe Yogi was blamed and drug through the mud on here by the Crean cult at the time.

If I was his boss, and he did that, I’d probably take it as an indication that he’s either not serious or wholly unaware of his position, its tenuous situation, and the expectations that rightly come with occupying it. He’s one of the highest paid coaches in the game, at a program that expects positive results, and his results two years in have been well below acceptable.

FTR, I don’t question that he and the other coaches are genuinely committed to pulling out of the spectacular downward spiral that has taken hold on their watch. I do, however, question their capacity to do so.

Is IU becoming a coach’s graveyard? Not saying I believe that but I think a lot of candidates will be thinking all that comes with the job in the event there is an opening before taking it.

Indiana is like Alabama football we had our Bear Bryant for 30 years we now need to get our Nick Saban and stop messing around with these young unproven coaches spend the money and get Stevens hell Self makes 7mil a year give Stevens 10mil a year..

Dude, we are talking about major college basketball. These are big boys Crazed. Archie doesn’t need someone to tell him what is and isn’t acceptable. It comes with the territory brother. This stuff you are talking about is just to pacify your own frustration.

Well, keep in mind that telling him the results haven’t been acceptable isn’t the only thing I’d be telling him. They’d be the “why”, not the “what”.
