This is for all you fire the coach guys.

He missed on the only worthy guards in the portal. There just weren’t any. That’s why they pushed so hard for X. Guards are coveted and getting very hard to get. Especially the few high major ones. Can anyone name the guard transfers that have truly panned out?
Jones for PU
Knecht for Ten
Love for Arizona
LJ cryer for Houston
Max Abmas for Texas
Ashworth Creighton
Nembhard Gonzaga

IU has become a transfer portal program. The grassroots basketball world knows CMW has a short shelf life and doesn't have time to recruit program type kids. He needs ready made talent (portal kids) or one and done type high schoolers. Both types require deep pockets and require a program to have to rebuild basically every year.

I've written this before, hire a young coach, understanding that you need to build through high school while sprinkling in transfers as needed, and be patient while developing an identity.

I'll give you another name, that would've/should've been very realistic... until UNC came calling: Cormac Ryan. Think he had 20 yesterday and 4/7 on 3s, but he's looked very solid this year. I remember when his name came up, the consensus on here was not athletic enough and only a spot up shooter. He's been good for UNC when I've watched.

They have to be willing to be here. Love has not been good. Max was never going anywhere but Texas. Cryer another Texas kid. Ashworth maybe but he’s not been a giant factor. Nembhard wasn’t going anywhere else but Gonzaga. Some(most) of those are a pipe dream in reality. Of all of them Knecht was the only realistic options.

Regardless, they are all solid contributors which is all we needed. Jones would have been great for us. Same with ashworth. Also
Love had 29 vs PU yesterday and averaging 16.5 5 and 4

It comes from an old English proverb once uttered by Alexander Barclay (1475-1552), a Scottish clergyman and poet. It goes “You can’t make a silk purse out of a sow’s ear” meaning you can’t make something good (a highly valued purse of expensive silk material) out of something inherently bad (a sow’s ear, assuming your not an adult female pig begging to differ). The present of purse underneath a Christmas tree was just a seasonal wrapping of additional packaging, perhaps better dismissed as amusing fluff.

Meatloaf said something similar in 1976: there ain't no coupe de ville hiding at the bottom of a Cracker Jack box...

“They have to be willing to be here…”. That’s recruiting. Convincing them to come to Indiana.

Ware failing to secure that rebound after the FT miss was huge. Ware fumbling the breakaway was huge. All the FT misses were huge. The three point shot from 6 or 8 feet beyond the arc, with Galloway closing was huge.

My biggest problem with Woodythis season was failing to bring in another guard. Maybe he thought Newton was that guy. Maybe he believed X was going to really be 100%. Maybe those guys were why IU couldn't get one of what they needed.

But all that said, I agree, Woody was the least of why IU lost.

X was 100%. He hurt the other foot this time. I, too, wish IU had another guard.

bro he had 30 against PU yesterday. I mean you can’t tell me you wouldn’t want him chucking threes for us. We need that desperately. Who cares if they don’t always go in. We are already good at that. Just need more guard play.
Love has Ben good for Zona. 15.8pts 5 reb and 4.3 asst per game

He has made 20 threes and takin 60!!!! Are leader has 8. Not even one a freaking game. Pathetic.

Woodson was not even close to out coached. Kansas put Hunter on Reneau, a great move and one I expect to see a lot of teams do as the season progresses the way Reneau is killing most PFs. What Woodson was doing with Galloway was brilliant. MM getting in foul trouble killed us because Banks unfortunately didn’t do a thing. A big 3 or a couple hustle baskets from Banks and the game is a different story. Also with the Hunter switch to Reneau, Ware has to dominate the offensive boards with a 6’9” forward on him. He didn’t. Those couple breakdowns and a couple untimely TOs from our younger guys combined with Kansas seniors making big plays down the stretch was the difference.

If we play like that or better the rest of the way we will be fine and in the tournament. And for those saying we need 13-14 Big Ten wins, are you crazy? Is my math wrong or would that put us at like 24ish wins or more depending on the Big tournament? Not sure when the last time a 24 win power 5 team didn’t make the tournament was but I doubt we need that many Big Ten wins to be in.

Probably about the last time a 7-3 power 5 team was ranked 120th in the NET.

We have our own Love in X. Career stars are comparable except X plays defense. But Love has stayed healthy, so there's that.

The NET is still, at this point in the season, icrazy. Indiana State still 15th and blown out by Bama in single game against a ranked opponent. They actually had a game against St Mary’s of the Woods. They have a game coming up against MSU that should rocket them down the list.

Isaiah Swope from. Newburgh is hitting some shots for them.

What, in your opinion, should Indiana basketball fans’ expectations be?
I’m sure you won’t like it but right now expectations of IU basketball are to make the tournament. Unranked with 3 five star players? A couple of the bigs look good but meshing with the guards is another story. It could happen. Galloway looked great. If he continues that path IU will be competitive.

I think you’re right but they can’t just walk away from Woodson. He might coach another 4-5 years. Either a 5 star or the absolute right fit portal wise is key.

The NET means less than nothing at this time of year. You could get a drunk crackhead who is only vaguely familiar with college basketball and get more accurate rankings right now.

3 years into a regime with near unlimited NIL resources, a staff whose supposedly loaded with recruiters, and a head coach who just got a million dollar raise.

We hope to make the tournament.

So Hunter Biden is a college basketball expert now? Art, law, energy, and now basketball. Eclectic SOB for sure.

I like the “woody got out coached crowd”. Then can’t explain why they think that. Woody had the gameplan. It worked pretty flawlessly too. The turnovers are all on the players. KU gambled by keeping its players that were in foul trouble in. Woody with the (supposedly) deeper bench didn’t necessarily have to gamble.
To me its not about specifying where the failure lies, such as coaching the game vs. recruited talent vs. assistant coaching hires...etc. I'm all about the bottom line. Making a specific excuse for why CMW failed in a particlular game is the same as making excuses to justify why losses weren't that bad. So you're doing the same thing as those on the other side.

Back in the day a loss to any team at Assembly hall was a sad day. Never something we explained away. If you think no one should be critical of coach based on the outcome of the game, no matter the opponent.....you're just as foolish.

Sh!t. I should’ve looked first. They still lost though. 🤦🏻🤣

Shit not yesterday. If I’m going to pick on a game that isn’t one. Plenty of others though.

Get your pompoms out. Yay for a loss! Also, it's a culmination of outcomes. Even awful wins. To pretend this is the IU standard shows us enough about your logic.

I mean when Woodson took over we were a bottom 1/3 of the Big program. So yes success generally happens incrementally. We lost what 7? 8? Players from last years roster. I would say finishing in the upper 1/3 of the Big and making the tournament would be a success this year. Long term that won’t fly as the ceiling, but this year, yes.

It’s as simple as KU out executed IU down the stretch… too many TOs gave KU the opening… all in all I think it’s fair to conclude … the team progressed from the UConn loss and nearly brought home the bacon V. KU.

Want to worry about something… worry about whether the Spartans gel before IU plays them. Trey Had a solid outing yesterday.

Listen, I’m not ra ra after this loss but to say he got out coached is insane. That’s my point. Is comprehension a lost art?

Woody seems to want to recruit the 5-star players. Roster turnover is going to be a staple if you choose to go down that path.

But we didn’t just lose the 1 freshman. Reneau will likely be back for his Jr year. Maybe one of Ware or MM stays. Galloway, Cupps returning. You can still build a stable roster with 5 stars mixed in. Every year hopefully will not be a 4 starter, 2 rotational player turnover.

Smitty you have spouting nonsense for years so just keep entertaining. That is why I enjoy mostly reading and dropped premium because there have been very few quality posters for the last 10 years on the board. Just for reference you are the Mississippi Valley State of posters on the KenPom scale.

Awesome! I bet we wouldn’t win the Missouri valley even

We need perimeter scoring.

X shoots a higher % from 3. We just need him to shoot more than 3 a game. Love avg 6 attempts over his career. Hopefully X gets back and will take a few more. But his low release does inhibit that.

Dude, love is a scorer and would be great for IU. Don’t give me the X % shit. He has been u reliable for his entire time here
