A really good article by the co-founder of the Lincoln Project. He explains why the LP is holding Trump’s federally elected enablers accountable. I know another thread touched on writing, and I have to say, this is a well written piece.

“These people are no longer Republicans nor should they be called conservatives. They’re scarecrows on America’s political plains, empty husks of individuals who traded their principles and their consciences for political expediency. They bought their tickets on the Trump Train. It’s time for them to take the ride.”

THOUGHT EXPERIMENT
Reed Galen Why former Republicans back Biden over Trump — and attack Senate Republicans

it is pretty easy if you have a brain. I have very conservative principals, and am pissed trump is now considered a republican. Where is Jeb when you need him!

Ninety-some percent of self-identified Republicans voted for the guy and approved of him until about March. Now that the economy is in shambles and the pandemic is completely out of control, that approval is STILL eighty-some percent.

Now the rats are jumping off a sinking ship. I'm happy to let them drown.

The biggest thing to me is finances. They are so far off the reservation. Pres Obama was scrouge compared to the Republican party.

This republican group VERY quickly adopted socialist principals ... we had to utilize stimulus and I would advocate for that ... but it was as if we opened up the fire hydrants and indiscriminately allowed the funds to water the streets regardless of the cleanup required afterwards.

I see this a lot, but I'm convinced that the number of self reporting Republicans has shrunk. Don't have anything at hand to back me up, so just call it my shithouse theory.

Trump still has 100% support from the russian-backed internet trolls.

Still....

And he still might win.

There’s a really easy way for the media to hold him accountable, and call him on his BS. Whenever he refuses to answer a question like this one, and moved on to the next one, the NEXT reporter simply asks it again. If a reporter doesn’t participate, that’s fine. As soon as the house media (like OAN) is done fluffing him up, the next reporter up asks the same question.

And if he walks off, then resume the same question the very next time he holds a “press conference” (they’re not really press conferences anymore- they’re some sort of weird, hybrid grievance session and false claim a thons at this point).

Eventually, he’s either going to lose it, or be honest in how he answers the question. The guy always says the quiet parts out loud, eventually, if given enough opportunities.

***I would also provide him with several very clear, non debatable examples of his deceit. For example, the suit to tank the ACA and therefore eradicate the pre-existing condition protection it provides while he claims to want to preserve those protections)***

It blows my mind that this tactic has only been employed once, and by back to back reporters. It’s an utter failure of the press, and enables him to continue to overwhelm us with his false reality. Like the republicans, the press has enabled this guy.

You can’t play by the rules with someone who doesn’t even acknowledge that the rules even exist.

The White House press corps is really weak these days. Can you imagine the field day Sam Donaldson, Helen Thomas, and Bill Plant would have with this clown?

either party could control both the house and the senate every term just by adopting and voting working class backing positions, as the Dems once did when they controlled both branches every yr.

neither party has the slightest inclination to do that, and both will fight to the death any member that does try to take those positions.

point being, neither party wants to win badly enough to actually support the vast majority of their constituency on anything economic.

it's not personal, or even political, it's just business.

Because you care about folks.
