Yes, that was surprising. Pleasantly, though, as that artist was one of the most influential of all time. Immensely talented.
Hey Steve- What Time is it? If it's Feb 1 in Tampa, then it's Bossss Time!!

No Surrender is not one of my personal faves, but this video does a really good job of capturing the excitement of opening night...If health permitted I'd have probably been there. Certainly would've enjoyed hanging out all day in the 80 degree temps...

Some hit and miss moments. Show was only 2 hrs 43 min which has some on BTX whining (nothing new), but he's 73 and it was the opener after 7 yrs. Setlist was pretty good mix of standards, new stuff and less frequently played classics like Candy's Room into Kitty)...

Break Down of Tampa 2-1-23 Opening Night Set List

Songs from “Letter to You” – 6
Songs from “Only the Strong Survive” – 2
Songs from Born in the USA – 3
Songs from Darkness on The Edge of Town – 4
Songs from Born to Run – 4
Songs from The River – 1
Songs from The Wild, the Innocent & the E Street Shuffle – 3
Songs from Nebraska – 1
Songs from Tunnel of Love – 1
Songs from Live 1975–85 – 1
Songs from Wrecking Ball – 1
Songs from The Rising – 1

No Pit lottery, but instead a fan run GA line which works well in Europe, but I'm not sure how well it will work in colder climates after FL and Georgia. My show (Columbus 3-9) is sandwiched in between an ICD check on March 8 and my 3 month cardiology check on March 10, so I imagine I'll be sitting for most of the show.

I got a call from IU health the morning after the NW basketball game asking what I was doing to activate my monitor at 11:30 the previous night, so I need to try and concentrate on keeping my heart rate down.

Looks like the current version of the ESB "organization" is even larger than the 2012-13 group, including the horns. That makes for a cut to the chase "band intro" prior to 10th Avenue, with the song following.

Bruce as music director...

I'll See You In My Dreams has seemingly supplanted Thunder Road and This Hard Land as solo guitar acoustic encore closers, at least for this show.

He also did a solo acoustic of Last Man Standing where he basically tied up the thought process behind Ghosts and the entire LTY album. First time I had heard the entire story and it really gives some insight into who George Theiss was and how Bruce joined The Castiles in '65. Pretty poignant moment...

Strange (likely NBA directed) scheduling quirk as they head to Atlanta tonight (2-3), before heading back to FL for Orlando and Miami shows next week...

I've heard many versions of this song, including the original by Rodney and a great cover by Willie. But Emmylou is special, esp with Rodney and Rosanne being part of the performance...

If you've ever wondered why the album cover of CSN shows them out of sequence, here's the story from the men who were responsible. Some really rare footage of not only that day, but also of the trip a few days later when they went to Big Bear to do the inside cover layout. I always wondered why they were all in parkas...

And just think Joni wrote Willy in the car on the way to Big Bear...

This isn't a 'great' song in the vein of others posted here, but damn if it isn't funny. And an earworm. You'll have it stuck in your head all day. Sorry for that....

Lyrics:

Got out of town on a boat goin' to southern islands
Sailing a reach before a followin' sea
She was makin' for the trades on the outside
And the downhill run to Papateete
Off the wind on this heading lie the marquesas
We got eighty feet of the waterline, nicely making way
In a noisy bar in Avalon I tried to call you
on a midnight watch I realized
Why twice you ran away
(Think about), think about how many times I have fallen
Spirits are using me, larger voices callin'
What Heaven brought you and me cannot be forgotten
(I've been around the world) I have been around the world
lookin' for that woman, girl
who knows love can endure?
And you know it will
And you know it will
When you see the southern cross for the first time
You understand now why you came this way
'Cause the truth you might be runnin' from is so small
But it's as big as the promise
The promise of a comin' day
So I'm sailing for tomorrow, my dreams are a-dyin'
And my love is an anchor tied to you
Tied with a silver chain
I have my ship and all her flags are a-flyin'
She might be all that I have left, and music is her name
(Think about), think about how many times I have fallen
Spirits are using me, larger voices callin'
What Heaven brought you and me cannot be forgotten
I have been around the world
lookin' for that woman, girl
Who knows love can endure
And you know it will
And you know it will
So we cheated, and we lied, and we tested
And we never failed to fail
It was the easiest thing to do
You will survive being bested
Somebody fine will come along
Make me forget about loving you
In the southern cross
In the southern cross

Time to review posts I haven't seen and add tidbits that come to mind...

I don't really watch tv for much of anything but sports. But I've heard of a show called "Last Of Us" and there was a recent episode which included someone covering "Long Long Time" and has led to a renewed interest and discovery by some of Linda's music...

I hope I haven't posted this in this thread previously, but the duet between Linda and Lowell brings to mind this performance of Willin, from a 1977 Atlanta show. The story she relates is not particularly flattering towards either Lowell or Linda, and may describe the reason he and his first wife (Pattie Price) ultimately divorced. The Qualude joke falls flat, but the vocal performance is FIRE!!

From 1990, Unplugged. Featuring (rare) guitar sightings of Crosby/Nash on Wasted on the Way, as well as particularly inspired versions of both 4&20, as well as Daylight Again/Find the Cost of Freedom...

Blistering version of "49 Bye-Byes" at the RRHOF induction in '97, following JT's star struck speech inducting CSN...

Love her.

Voice and timing second to none.

Chris Hillman actually originated this song, though most assume it was Gram since he sang lead on the Burrito Brothers original. The third verse is about RFK, and this cover by Emmylou off of Elite Hotel is heartfelt...

Speaking of heartfelt... Bill Danoff wrote the music but the lyrics are Emmylou, trying to put into words the despair she felt when Gram died...

Haven't heard this song since my IU days, but it's probably my personal favorite off of Paul Simon's debut (solo) album. The incredible story of "Lincoln Duncan"...

Couple in the next room bound to win a prize
They've been going at it all night long
Well, I'm trying to get some sleep
But these motel walls are cheap
Lincoln Duncan is my name and here's my song
Here's my song
My father was a fisherman
My mama was a fisherman's friend
And I was born in the boredom and a chowder
So when I reached my prime
I left my home in the maritimes
Headed down the turnpike for New England
Sweet New England

So I know we have previously discussed David Lindley, and I mentioned that I'd heard he was not doing well. Sadly it turns out that he passed 4 days ago and I only became aware of his passing an hour or so ago. Not sure how I missed it, but had I known I'd have posted sooner...

I think this performance represents one of his most iconic stage appearances, when he shocked everyone with his falsetto solo rendition of Rosemary Butler's verse in Stay.

This cover of Brothers Under The Bridge is pretty amazing, and I hadn't heard it previously.
David's personal knowledge of an actual location where the vets Bruce wrote about actually live adds a special level of poignancy to this version...

RIP David... Ironic how this masterpiece that Jackson wrote about the death of a childhood friend seems like a perfect eulogy for you 50+ yrs later...
