I always figured Marv would be running our incredibly profitiable OnlyF*ns sites and direct link to PronHub. The real money is online.
marv's going to present a real problem once he begins to decline, much less dementia or old timers. he already plays dress up. we may have him delivering packages dressed like a civil war soldier

"Entitled" to, no.

But you don't get to go to heaven if you don't give it away, do you?

Luke 18:18-25

King James Version

18 And a certain ruler asked him, saying, Good Master, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?
19 And Jesus said unto him, Why callest thou me good? none is good, save one, that is, God.
20 Thou knowest the commandments, Do not commit adultery, Do not kill, Do not steal, Do not bear false witness, Honour thy father and thy mother.
21 And he said, All these have I kept from my youth up.
22 Now when Jesus heard these things, he said unto him, Yet lackest thou one thing: sell all that thou hast, and distribute unto the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come, follow me.
23 And when he heard this, he was very sorrowful: for he was very rich.
24 And when Jesus saw that he was very sorrowful, he said, How hardly shall they that have riches enter into the kingdom of God!
25 For it is easier for a camel to go through a needle's eye, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God.

Socialism and the redistribution of wealth from people with much to people with little is as Christian as apple pie, or some other mixed metaphor I'm not thinking of.
Only if they fear God.
Otherwise, the metaphor is a fantasy.
How many socialists honor God?
None?
This may be where the 'good works' fallacy gets it's wings.
In 'Today's World', it's all about the Gibs....

Your conclusion is nonsense. You’re incredibly bright (much brighter than myself) on a number of topics, but Christianity isn’t one of them. You really should join a small group with a preacher in it.

She's gaining momentum - - and money. Let's finally bring the curtain down on the Don the Con Shitshow.

“We all believe that Nikki Haley is an outstanding leader. She has by far the best electability of any Republican presidential candidate in 2024. We are convinced that our efforts will not be futile, as some may fear, and that Donald Trump does not inevitably have to be the Republican candidate — not at all.

"[Haley is] a forward-thinking, next-generation leader, whose vision, values, integrity, optimism and energy make her the best choice as the Republican presidential candidate.” - Super PAC 'Independents Moving the Needle'

She said she'd vote for the Orange blowhard if nominated so she's as anti-democratic as the rest of them.
An absolute disqualification, period.

Which conclusion? It’s not nonsense although it might be wrong.

Google Christian socialists or religious origins of socialism. It actually predates Marx.

People go through a lot of mental gymnastics to make the verse you quoted actually mean something else. Also:

But woe to you who are rich,
for you have already received your comfort.

The message in the verses was a warning of the dangers of money/worldly possessions. It can keep us away from God and destroy us. It has nothing to do with governments seizing money and redistributing it.

I believe the projected 2033 shortfall is $440.1 billion. Below is a pdf, not sure how it will link. If that is accurate, I'm not sure reducing raises to the Gates types and raising the age of retirement for current 21-year-olds will do it. I am not sure what actuarial change would work by 2033, I'd be interested in hearing them.

I haven't looked for a bit, but I think you're looking at roughly a hike in payroll taxes from 6.2% to about 8% will alone close the gap.

I'm strongly opposed to any tax increases that aren't across the board. We've had more than enough of the idea of "other people" can cover it in this country. We have out of control debt as it is due to the endless, bipartisan tax cuts for middle and upper middle class over the last 40 years.

You are right that the verse doesn't mention the government. That's why my post didn't say anything about the government doing it.

But it's hard to read that verse and not think individuals who want to go to the Christian heaven better give their money to the poor (not their kids--see I'm trying to save souls here!) before they die.

Not a lot of eyes of needles big enough to fit a camel, then or now.

You don’t have to give any money away in order to go to heaven.

Well when the lights all go out nicely seasoned firewood will be legal tender. I got a good start and enough ****ing trees to feel like the nomads of the Arabian peninsula when they found oil.
Cut them all down so they'll have a chance to dry.

Quit while you're behind.

Convenient.
Take it up with God. The way to heaven is through Christ, not good deeds. Also, there are plenty of verses in the Bible that says Christians should be charitable. Brad should have chosen one of those to try to make his point.

It’s “The Shot”. If it doesn’t kill you in this life, it will get you in the afterlife.

My belief system teaches that man's relationship with God is an individual experience. One's acceptance of Salvation through Christ cannot be subservient to some iteration of 'means testing'.
In the parable of the camel/needle, the message is that other 'gods'(wealth, power, flesh) cannot be allowed to interfere with one's Salvation.
'Rich' and 'Wealth' are subjective terms, as they were two thousand years ago.

This is what you get after 1600 years of christianization driven by the elites. Before the Germanic tribes started to convert, Christianity was exactly the opposite, a religion of the poor and oppressed. There's a reason Jesus ate with tax collectors and sinners.

Anyway, I guess what I'm saying is that the original understanding of Christianity very likely meant that yes, you did need to give all your money away to find salvation.
