GOAT showing a wannabe who's boss

Any enlightened or ambitious players wouldn't want to play for Yeagley or assistant coaches.

I've watched enough boys youth soccer, and enough of it high level, to know the best players aren't going to college. Period.

the style of play at Grand Park (stupidly good soccer facility here in central IN) is better than the Big Ten. And I'll stand by that. Without hesitation. Some of the academy teams full of 16/17 y/o's would bury Big Ten Teams.

i have friends with kids who skipped scholarships to continue playing in hopes of getting overseas or homegrown contracts. directors, boys/girls directors, technical directors, make six figures at these bigger youth clubs. if you are obsessed with the sport and know that's what you want to do for your life it's now a viable career option so why bother with college

is there a better individual goal in soccer history? That mix of strength, balance, patientce, quickness, footwork... just remarkable.

Imagine how easily he would have made it look against Rapinoe.
because he's so big it's crazy. definitely top five. messi getafe. messi bilbao. messi real madrid. maradona england. george weah had a 100 yard run that was incredible. roberto carlos' hit has to be top 3-5. watch the movement on this ball. i had those umbro shoes too. they were awful. he did it in awful shoes

I forgot about Umbro shoes. The shorts were legit, but the shoes were shit.

I don't know, Messi Getafe is up there. I just love the ones where it's a bunch of moves vs. straight line attack.

Wasn't he the one that said Messi only texted him one time, and only to call him a donkey?
jamie carragher. wouldn't you love to have one text from messi and it's just one word. donkey. i love that so much. i love how lineker hating on himself watching messi said that messi produces more pieces of exceptional skill in a single game than he managed in an entire career lmao. a top 5 all time england scorer

he's just different.

Sidebar: My wife LOVES (and I mean, more than me) Ronaldo (CR7 variety). Obviously, I still maintain Messi is better but I always say that if I needed one player to win one game, I'd take Ronaldo. But for any other scenario, I'd take Messi. It's caused arguments. Like, not talking to me for an entire day, arguments. Thank God we both like Man U

they were both so great that in some ways it was unfortunate that they were of the same era inasmuch as they really aren't comparable players at all. ronaldo was just a powerful, finishing machine. so direct. so fast. so reliable. dead balls. incredible in the air. etc. they are just different. to me what separates messi from anyone to ever play the game is that he would have been the greatest midfielder to ever play as well. no one plays a better ball than him. in his own third. anywhere on the field

I love Paul Scholes.

the Ronaldo story (i wish I could find it) about Ronaldo wondering why Scholes was considered so good when he (ronaldo) first arrived at Man U. Scholes put a ball on the ground and hit a tree 50 yards away. Ronaldo tried it 10 times and didn't come close.

As a consolation, this is awesome.

Sadly, Miazga will miss the next playoff game due to yellow card accumulations.

you taking your wingman? i think it's single elimination now?
Probably not the next one, as it's Thanksgiving Saturday and we will have a lot of people in town. Get-in price is currently $100 - which I would do for just the two of us. Heck, if we weren't going to have so many people in town I might try to drive up to the Bucket Game then high-tail it back for the FCC game. That would be a blast.

But, we will have our oldest back home from Memphis, his girlfriend here from eastern Tennessee, our youngest home from the Univ. of Tennessee, an uncle in from Charlotte, an aunt in from Florida, and possibly my mom from northern Ohio. Going to be a crazy weekend.

yeah that's a lot! mls spreads these games out so far. bizarre.

what's the reason? damn it was a different sport then. brutal hard tackles
"Ewan McGregor is drafted down to the Smoke to do his bit, as is Scottish football commentator Archie MacPherson who is squeezed into the suite for 20 minutes on a Tuesday afternoon to add some spicy, double-entendre-layered commentary to the footage of Archie Gemmel's legendary 1978 World Cup goal that is intertwined with the film's pivotal sex scene."

I know. I assumed the game would be this coming Saturday then last night they announced it was on the 25th. Must be because of the CONCACAF games this week? Can't believe the final isn't until Dec. 9. That could be a cold one if Cincy or Columbus are hosting (I don't think KC can host the final due to their seeding). How bad is it playing a game when it's in the 30s?

When I was at Purdue we once had an outdoor swim meet against SEMO, on New Year's Day, in McCallen, Texas. Temperature was barely 40, if that. I remember watching the Rose Bowl between events on a portable TV the starter brought with him. That was not fun.

An outdoor swim meet!! Now that is wild!! Yeah that weather that sounds rough for swimming!

I hate playing in the cold. Probably why most D1 schools for soccer are on the coasts. I think Unc alone has 5 or 6 d1 programs with its branch campuses alone

I can’t imagine Acosta likes cold weather

Not only an excellent description of a key play, but an almost perfect example of the East Texas accent via Eric Salazar at the :42 mark. :D

ha! there were some great players back in the early 80s. baltimore blast had stan the pizza man stamenkovic. guy was amazing. ny had hte lord of indoors steve zungal. chicago had a few legends. stl. and the sidekicks had tatu. when misl spiraled that's when us soccer entered a long wasteland of professional soccer. other indoor leagues. usisl. on and on. awful for an entire generation. when i went through the mls combines it was the strangest collection of players from all the different leagues you could imagine. all americans from d1 playing against 30 something pro indoor players

We (daughter) went over and guested for a team from OK in KC last winter at an indoor tournament. Thing has been going on since the 80's. Played at all these cool indoor venues all over Kansas City. Think they had like six or seven different venues. They were like bowling alleys for soccer....bars, tv's, and soccer.

One place was Hispanic owned and had very little English in the whole venue... https://www.soccernationkc.com/gallery-1

The SoccerDome had an upstairs bar above the field that was LEGIT. https://www.kcsoccerdome.com/ Place gets rowdy at nights.

Think we may take our Bloomington team over this year and do some damage. :D

Yeah, we opted out of the local co-ed U15 Friday night winter league this year. Had been a blast. Too much risk now.

Too may roughneck boys from surrounding counties looking for scalps. At this point, an ECNL league title is a bit more important than Friday night rec league, for the girls, and us.

i've told the story before but a few years back we were still playign in the open men's league against 20 somethings. i got the ball just past the red line on our side of the field, nutted a guy, got to half field and played it off the wall to myself around another guy, and then at their red line pulled a stepover around another guy before laying it off. tired i ran back to the bench and made some remark about "different league" and all my friends started laughing. apparently i just beat the same guy three times. i was moving so slowly he kept catching back up to me. I thought I beat 3 guys

I knew I was done when I saw the play in front of me, thought I could beat a 25 y/o to the ball, wasn't even close, got the ball flicked over me, heard the goalkeeper call me a mother****er, and they scored. i didn't even turn around.

****ing old.

Saw the highlights of the Maryland game. I was yelling at YouTube.

Are they playing feckin' volleyball? Why do they always have to cross the ball every time -- set play or otherwise?

Christ on a stick, try and keep the ball on the ground every now & then. Try this radical idea of triangles or third-man movements or running into space. Try passing to your team-mate's feet for once or its illegal to do so? Dont have to launch the ball into the air at every opportunity.

Its like watching the Air Force.

Does Yeagley still have black & white TVs at home? Its not the 1970s.

Someone needs to sponsor an overseas trip and get some modern football/soccer coaching into him.

How are these players supposed to try to make a living in the MLS pro league, never mind Europe?

Its the reverse of what TJD said of Woodie.

I need a drink now -- watched all 20mins of the video but was yelling 10mins of the time.
Be kind here, since I'm ignorant of all things soccer, but would a team that plays on uneven surfaces (grass height, terrain makeup, etc.) or in inclement weather a lot tend to make more aerial passes?

I didn't know this was even a thing, actually. My kid played at a level where almost all passes were on the ground. And they used triangles. He had a Latin American coach.

Isnt Armstrong a purpose-built stadium? I dont remember the pitches being that bad. If so they need to sack the groundsman.

Good to hear about your kid's coaching standards. There is hope then.

So I blame the antiquated coaching.

The weather only affects running (since I dont remember water pooling on the field) -- trust me in this neck of the woods, it is like breathing in water. So you won't be running as much or if you plan, you need to be supremely fit.

I have played here in the business/company leagues for quite a number of years. If you are a winger, CM then you would be sucking in air. (I normally play a 6 so its easier for me.)
They are leaner here too for obvious reasons but equally feisty.
