He wants to intentionally draw you into his own half!! That's just so counter intuitive.
Stl is going to win their conference praying on mls teams incapable of playing out of the back attempting to. hey caught some of real madrid today for the first time this year. i have to say i am genuinely sad. it's the end of an era. more than a cycle i think. barca, real madrid, manchester united, even juventus really. i'm not sure i have the energy to start over. and who is exciting? where's the next ronaldhino? messi? pirlo. on and on.

Too many kids have been over-coached or had their street instincts coached out at their respective academies. It's the era of systems now.

Then a DOF puts together a data team, scouts who bring in players who will try and thrive under a structure regardless of any change in management.

The game's big money now that you can't afford to have too many fluctuations in results from manager to manager or even players.

Not so much a manager putting together a collection of highly skilled players as in the past.

I think Chelsea under Abramovich was the prototype.

They have intellectualised the game now.

In some ways, you have to blame Pep ironically. I think he played or prepared for a day he didn't have Messi.

IMO he is the father of modern-day systems. If you read articles on his City team. The players are required to execute tasks that are so precise that its almost robotic. Take Grelish, a swashbuckling player at Aston Villa who cost City £100+million and yet is now only a skilled functional systems player who is in & out of their starting 11.

Phil Foden is another flamboyant player who doesn't get the playing time he deserves.

If Messi was coming up in a City environment, I am not sure you will see the Messi that you know of under a City Pep.

Ferguson was the last great man-manager. Ok at tactics (he usually allowed his assistants to figure that out) but he loved flamboyant players to go out and express themselves. (His famous line before the players went out onto the field every match was: Go out and express yourself, lads!)

But he lost to Pep in two CL finals with some of the best teams ever in United's modern history.

Dams da breks.

There is no single reason for anything in life. But if I am to point out to any one major reason it would be the $$ in the game. There's just too much financial at risk now. You can't afford too many oscillations or boom/bust swings.

United is probably the only club that can -- we just signed a £ 900 million Adidas kit contract (for the next 10yrs) and £ 60 million per year for main shirt sponsor with Qualcomm.

We would be fecked if not for our commercial powers.

You just have to look at car designs now compared to the 50s. Fins to 'aerodynamically optimised' designs.

This is Brighton's passing map against United:

Notice how much of the ball is in their half -- yet they maintain a lot of the possession. Its quite different to Pep's (and the copycats) approach where they like to camp in the opposition's half. De Zerbi likes to tempt you to come after them in his own half. Then break fast and attack you.

Its like its low-block, possession, counter-attacking football. Quite different
This sounds like a strategy based on the Mongol’s fake retreat tactics. Fascinating @Marvin the Martian

Genghis was a great soccer theoretician. He even defeated the great Chinese goalkeeper nicknamed "The Great Wall".

Pulisic would be a huge star at a Stl kc Columbus etc. sell a ton of shirts. Endorsements
didn't he come up through Philly's system? I can't remember. But yeah, he'd be a headliner along with Messi or whatever senior citizen comes next.

It seemed like just last week men in blazers were crowing on about how Chelsea ****ed up by getting rid of a red hot Pulisic Etc etc. But then I’m only getting my pulisic news from sources like MIB.

i would say he is by far the most talented, overall talented, player the us has ever produced. but he's a very poor man's neymar. you watch him just waiting for him to grab his ankle and go down. i'd never give him big bucks or rely on him

What is the earnings gap?
Dunno. mcm might have better info but I'm not sure how a league like the Championship in England is structured pay wise. I suspect a great number of the players are on loan from larger clubs. Probably the same in France/Germany/Italy/Spain as well.

But if you're an American and you flame out in Europe I'd hightail it back to grab that sweet sweet cash in MLS.

@JamieDimonsBalls mls is a mess with pay. of stl city's 29 man roster i think 14 or 15 guys make under 100k. it's the second lowest payroll in the league and we're going to win the west. not really answering your question but this is what i wanted to post

the champions league tv crew with carragher and richards etc are funny. i like them. like a poor man's barkley and shaq etc in the studio. but they genuinely are funny. look up them talking about messi and carragher saying he's only ever received one message from messi on his phone and it was a DM that said.

burro

hilarious!!!!

Did he nut the first guy? I can’t see. So what’s this guy’s story? I’ve never heard of him. He’s clearly better than mls
Lucho Acosta. As good a goal as you will ever see. Clearly the MLS goal of the year.

Is it me or is the grass a little too tall? The ball seems to roll much slower than I expected.

Trim it a little more and maybe he wont struggle to push the ball upfield as slowly?

Also do they water the pitch before a game?
