I think they should buck tradition. Put names on the jerseys. Change the home court. Get rid of the candy stripes.

I’m old school and used to believe in tradition, but why not change things up? It couldn’t hurt or won’t affect the product on the court. Today’s players have no idea how good IU used to be. Just my two cents after some whiskey and beers.

They sure don’t play for the name on the front!

It's too late, IU's basketball and football is controlled by an A D that doesn't know how to hire coaches or build winning programs. The AD answers to a president that knows nothing or even cares about sports and a BOT that appears to be satisfied with both.
You can change anything you want but until there are big changes at the top its groundhog day each season.

Glass could have built a New Arena but he chose not to.

Could have built a new football only facility. But chose not to. The guy is stuck in the past. If that's the case than just bring in Wittman or Alford as the HC.

Keep the candy stripes.

I do think kids in any sport would like to have their names on jerseys...give it to them.
I think kids like all the different uniforms and alternate uniforms etc...give it to them.
Football helmets and variations...give it to them.

Oregon to me has been the trendsetter on apparel and uniform variations, and I think it has benefited them well in FB/BB.

Anybody who thinks new uniforms and warm-ups matter is dumber than dirt. Exhibit A? The sorry excuse for football team playing in Memorial Stadium. Keep them the same and while we’re at it, go back to the block I for the football team too.

It really does not matter either way. Anyone who freaks out about names of the jerseys truly lives in the knight era. Keep the pants but get rid of the outdated warmup tops. And yes i was around during the bailey years.

They should play in the MAC in football.

They would lose member status in the Big Ten if so. Which might not be a bad idea because that’s where the basketball team belongs as well. We might be able to compete in both programs in a conference more suited to our style - a little university currently trying to play in a big boy conference.

Change for change's sake doesn't make sense. One thing it will upset those who are old school who like things the way they have been. Second, none of the things you mentioned puts the ball in the basket or gets a defensive rebound.

Let's not forget that CAM brought in a top 10 recruiting class in his first season. You can't blame Langford's three-point problems on him. Nor can you blame him for players having severe concussions. You can't blame him for Hunter missing the entire season. Add in that Morgan was the only senior on the roster that contributed and that was when he could stay out of foul trouble.
The defense is improving. The offensive weaknesses are obvious. CAM inherited a tough situation.

Not stop it you make to much sense for many on this board. I basically posted something similar in another thread. Expect one of the village idiots to attack common sense..

What would names on jerseys, changing our stadium, or getting rid of candy stripes have to do with with winning more games? Are those things that are supposed to help with recruiting?

IU has all of the resources in place to support an elite program. They need the coaching and the recruiting momentum to get us back. We may not have the coaching needed with archie, but we are at least a season away from really knowing that, regardless of what some of you j*ckasses that want him fired after every loss think.

My real concern right now is recruiting momentum. Archie needs to fill the void that missing on brooks created or this could snowball like it did with crean. Keion wasnt a cant miss recruit on his own, but could be a trend to missing on more elite players that any coaching staff here will need to get us back.

The best things in life are those that stay the same.... like the level of oxygen in the atmosphere.

How do you feel about some cute candy cane striped pants around the holidays? What kind of catchy script would you use for the names on the jerseys? Not block...something neat. Maybe replace the stars on the shorts with adorable turkeys around thanksgiving? Being into fashion, do you have any fun ideas for Halloween? With these changes alone I think we could have been a 4 seed this year.

oregon doesn't wear uniforms. they wear costumes. that's what you call them if you change it every week

I'd suggest that modern things appeal to modern kids. No, doing those things won't suddenly get top recruits to Bloomington. But then again IU does have a stodgy reputation. Tradition is great when your tradition is tied to something positive. I'm not sure that's the case today for IU.

An updated image could not possibly hurt. Today's teenagers don't want to feel like they're playing for the Hickory Huskers.

How’d we do without them wiseguy?

I could care less what the players wear. They care a little bit...and they wear it.

The TV channels will still display ‘Indiana’ on the bottom scoreboard so you can tell which team to root for...

No names please, court is untouchable. I will have a beer with you though.

Actually should eliminate football. But there are enough fans that think it's entertaining so it does bring in enough $$ to help support other programs.
Leverage the 8 time IU National Champion Soccer team to play in Memorial Stadium. Instead of a football team that hasn't won a bowl game in 26 years.

I think they should lower bb ticket prices and adopt a tiered price system as IU football is this year...

Then the program would truly be ...just another program. Alabama didn't dump all their traditions when they were out of the elite category. they are glad they didn't.

You need to explain why these changes are necessary. Random changes are pointless.

Names on jerseys don't matter that much. The fans don't need names. We know who the players are. What would you change on the court? The name? It is okay at some point in the future. IU used to have a rule that only people that had passed away could receive that honor. Keep the candy stripes. It is our identity/brand and easily recognizable.

I wasn't around in the 40's and 50's. We were very good. There was a lull in our national prominence, but we returned and had a great run starting in the 70's. Our fans will be just as fired up and excited when we return to prominence. We have been there before. We will come back. When we do, I want to see candy stripe warm ups and the familiar uniforms that Buckner, Thomas, Alford, Cheaney and the rest have worn.

If you are bored, find another team. Come back whenever you feel better about the program.

I have been saying this for years. The tradition we have is 30 years old so lets get some jerseys that do not look like they belong in the 1970's.

The outdated warmup tops which I wore in grad school in the 80's need to go. I have not seen them since except at IU. Also get new shorts those thing look like they are 40 years old.
