Since IU isn’t a power anymore

As an outsider looking in, some change can help change the mojo of the program. I think despite the naysayers above, IU football is on the right track. Adding names to the jersey won't directly get you any more wins, changing the ticket price structure will only temporarily boost sales without more winning.

That being said you can respect tradition, keep tradition, while bringing new life and blood and traditions into your program. Keep the banners, lose the stars on the shorts, break out the candy stripes for big games and go with something modern the rest of the time.

None of these things matter directly, but changing the vibe inside the four walls of an organization can lead to more wins. And who knows what resonates with a recruit? Would they rather have their name on their jersey or play under old banners? IDK. But none of it should be viewed as a sacred cow.

Winning includes good coaches, good players, good facilities. These are a direct result of an administration which wants to have winning programs. McRobbie is happy for the $ b-ball and football bring in and the wad of cash from the big ten network he can use for his pet projects. That’s it.

Not sure most out side Indiana know about its bball tradition? IU is in a funk. Twenty year funk. Schools with half the facilities and funding, are passing IU by. Why? Is it coaching and players? As far as tradition. All IU is known for is being mediocre at best. So the old timers demanding keep our tradition of great team def and O. While keeping SN driven teams. Ya most schools try to achieve that. Not so sure thats IUs tradition. A lot of teams win that way. IU needs to change everything. IU tried to stay with old timers so called tradition. Now so far behind. Much smaller schools out recruit IU. You can have the best fan base in the world. With out talent. You stand still. IU outside of Indiana is just not a cool appealing school today. So the old timers making demands and threats to stop being a fan if IU goes in the direction of the UKs Dukes , UNC and most top schools. As a younger IU fan. I would tell them to go kick rocks with their traditions. Time to start knew ones.

Instead of making general, broad, ignorant, statements about changes that need to made, let’s hear some specifics. What are the specific traditions that IU needs to shit-can that will draw the recruits in? Can’t wait to hear your response...

Probably start by letting kids know half the fan base will not turn on them if they leave for a dream in the NBA. Maybe work on. IUs image and show some of the best talent in the country that IU isant set in the eighties. Three passes before a shot stuff. Believe it or not. Most young men today like freedom to create and play. Maybe show this talent IU is a great place to come and get exposure while preparing for a career in the NBA. Let kids be individuals and grow together. Instead of giving the impression if you come to IU you will be apart of our tradition and fall in line. Give them their names and idenity back. Support them by not saying its only about IU stay until your SN year and get a great education and be apart of something special for us. The fans and IU. Sorry but top talent dosent want to go to a place were half the fan base is vocal about your game and intentions while at IU. Good luck finding top talent falling over IUs traditions and culture of creating memories for its fan base. Kids today are selfish and interested in moving on reaching their dreams. Its a fine line being able to bring them in and get what both parties want in a short time. IU is no were near that line. Everything i read from this fan base. Is a specific player and a specific old school style .Good luck staying the course. Kids just not interested and know nothing about that culture or style today.

You’re dumber than I thought. Is English a second language for you? I’d like to respond to your post point by point, but I’m not fluent in moron. I don’t think you even understand half of what you’re complaining about.

Lol. I know its hard being a loser. But try. Try to break my post down point by point. Your so angry. You have to remember its just bball. IU has sucked so long now. It shouldnt bother you that bad. Come on cutie point out where im wrong in anything i said. Lets be honest. IU wont change any time soon. So why bother. You still have Purdue, Butler , Indiana St, Valpo and a few other schools in your state that has passed IU by. Root for one of them. Or just keep being the loser you are. Im sure you could get my points in this post, with the spelling issues. Or ignore and give a snarky insult because you know im right and have no answers to what i said. Lol. Good luck Gilligan.

Keep the candy stripes.

I do think kids in any sport would like to have their names on jerseys...give it to them.
I think kids like all the different uniforms and alternate uniforms etc...give it to them.
Football helmets and variations...give it to them.

Oregon to me has been the trendsetter on apparel and uniform variations, and I think it has benefited them well in FB/BB.

Don't be silly. Nike money is what has benefited Oregon.

Names on jerseys. And new styles.

Music besides “We will, we will, ROCK YOU”

Basketball specific “dorms”

Martha the mop lady.

And focus more on getting kids to the NBA rather than excelling “for the glory of ol IU”

I’m far from hip and cool but even I can tell our game atmosphere is lame compared to the Elite programs of today.

I genuinely don’t understand half of what you posted. For example, the part where you talk about half the fan base being “vocal about players’ game and intentions” while at IU. WTF does that mean? Fans aren’t allowed to be fans?

Developing players who can play in the NBA is on the coach. The rest is just a bunch of superficial BS.

Basketball dorms are a huge selling point to kids - have you seen UKs from a few years ago? Might as well be living in a Penthouse in NYC...people who are either athletes or extremely smart, barbershops, food, movie rooms etc...compared to the typical college kid musty dorm w 40-60 other people on your floor of all types of lifestyles and interests...

If you respond period by period you would be typing all night. If you try to make out each point you would be typing and deciphering all night. I think you should respond by paragraph and it’s easy.
Dumb paragraph....English is hard when you drop out of middle school.
