As an outsider looking in, some change can help change the mojo of the program. I think despite the naysayers above, IU football is on the right track. Adding names to the jersey won't directly get you any more wins, changing the ticket price structure will only temporarily boost sales without more winning.
That being said you can respect tradition, keep tradition, while bringing new life and blood and traditions into your program. Keep the banners, lose the stars on the shorts, break out the candy stripes for big games and go with something modern the rest of the time.
None of these things matter directly, but changing the vibe inside the four walls of an organization can lead to more wins. And who knows what resonates with a recruit? Would they rather have their name on their jersey or play under old banners? IDK. But none of it should be viewed as a sacred cow.
