So…what’s everybody think? Was it justice or injustice keeping him out of the HoF for life?
Think he’ll get in posthumously?

Yes…So…what’s everybody think? Was it justice or injustice keeping him out of the HoF for life?

He was his own worst enemy and couldn’t get out of his own way, but I would have liked to see him in the Hall while he was alive. So…what’s everybody think? Was it justice or injustice keeping him out of the HoF for life?
Think he’ll get in posthumously?
No need to keep him out. I was a huge supporter of him getting in alive but it became evident he lied way too muchYes…
Damn!!!!!! Anyone who played that hard should have gotten inSo…what’s everybody think? Was it justice or injustice keeping him out of the HoF for life?

Injustice. So…what’s everybody think? Was it justice or injustice keeping him out of the HoF for life?

Why do you say this? Did Mr McMahon put him in?R.I.P. WWE Hall of Famer.
Wow. Just heard this. Just got back from working out and my bride told me after I showered. So…what’s everybody think? Was it justice or injustice keeping him out of the HoF for life?

💯Wow. Just heard this. Just got back from working out and my bride told me after I showered.
He lied and he was a pretty scummy guy around the city. But I don’t believe he ever negatively impacted the score of a game or its ultimate outcome.
The thing I always appreciated about Rose is that he got more out of his natural ability than any other athlete I can think about. Jordan had a higher ceiling and probably got as close to his as Rose did.
I think it’s a travesty that he was denied induction to the HOF while alive. Bart Giamatti is the ultimate villain to the west side of Cincinnati. Westsiders might tear down the Hall if they try something now.
Did he ever come clean? Totally, with no weaseling? He was a liar but he belongs in.
Compare that to Mantle. He never played sober. It’s hard enough to play slow pitch softball while in the bag. He’s in the discussion of best talents ever.Wow. Just heard this. Just got back from working out and my bride told me after I showered.

Something tells me Pete no longer gives a shitNo need to keep him out. I was a huge supporter of him getting in alive but it became evident he lied way too much
Man, that’s cold.Rose was one of the greatest batters ever. He agreed to the lifetime ban, case closed.
The two greatest hitters ever are banned. Thats life.
Ted Williams is in.The two greatest hitters ever are banned. Thats life.
If Mantle hadn’t had all of the knee problems over the years he would have all the records.Compare that to Mantle. He never played sober. It’s hard enough to play slow pitch softball while in the bag. He’s in the discussion of best talents ever.
Pete was an ass but he competed
Rose made a deal. The lifetime ban was not imposed against his will.Man, that’s cold
Right. But it preserved Rose’s right to apply for reinstatement at some future date, which was the real get for him.Rose made a deal. The lifetime ban was not imposed against his will.
He bet on games. He's out. Never let him in.You can't have a baseball HOF without the all time hits leader.
Harold Freaking Baines is in, but not Rose?
The Rule was put in place in 1927 after the Black Sox scandal of 1919, when eight Chicago White Sox were accused of throwing the World Series in exchange for money from gamblers. The scandal had the potential of toppling the game and MLB acted quickly by implementing Rule 21."Any player, umpire, or club or league official or employee, who shall bet any sum whatsoever upon any baseball game in connection with which the bettor has a duty to perform shall be declared permanently ineligible."
Wonder if that rule has been litigated. Rose settled if I remember righthttps://www.forbes.com/sites/ericma...ose-should-never-be-admitted-to-hall-of-fame/ :
MLB Rule 21 provides that a player will be banned for life if he bets on a game in which he is involved. Here's the language of that Rule:

It is impossible for a player not to be aware of Rule 21. It's everywhere. It's posted in the clubhouse. It's in the shower. It's carved into soap. It's in the sandwiches. Every player every year acknowledges the rule in writing. The ubiquity of the rule underscores its importance. Rose knew the rule and broke it.

My Grandpa was a huge Reds fan. He absolutely loved Rose. He and my Dad got into it during the 75 World Series because Dad was a Red Sox fan. Rose accepted the ban but later wanted it lifted. It was not injust or just to keep him out. He just had to live with the original ban. I do think he will probably get in. It should be sooner rather than later because over time people will not care as much. So…what’s everybody think? Was it justice or injustice keeping him out of the HoF for life?

I've shared this before. My father is not doing well. He has dementia. If he heard right now that Ted Williams wasn't in the HOF he would come to and object to it.Ted Williams is in.
No reason to repeal it. It’s a good rule. It works.MLB and the NBHOF&M are separate and distinct entities.
The latter passed a rule after all this went on with Rose which disqualified anybody on the permanent ineligible list from their ballots.
There’s no reason they couldn’t repeal that rule - independently of MLB’s rules.

Pete will go down as the greatest player of all time who never made the HOF in the hearts, of many, if not most fans.
The irony here is, not being in the hall makes Pete special among the great players.
I had no idea till just now that Pete had died, when I saw the story about the last teammate meeting on Sun on my yahoo feed. I guess I didn't visit this site after your thread was posted because I was still digesting KK,and Mtombo's deaths. So…what’s everybody think? Was it justice or injustice keeping him out of the HoF for life?

If he had ever told the complete truth about what he did, he'd have had a chance. I don't think he did. He might get in at some point, but I wouldn't bet much on it.So…what’s everybody think? Was it justice or injustice keeping him out of the HoF for life?
