Red Counties in America have 100% Higher Covid Rates Than Blue Counties

I missed that post. I guess hoops is on boos 24/7. Hopefully not while cruising in his $160,000 sports car. Did Hoops ever answer my question whether he’s a 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th generation tit sucker or if he earned his money himself?

Your question got me thinking. In your line of work, you likely see many folks with generational wealth. Grandpa Joe made it big and great grandkids are carrying on being wealthy. In your opinion, did the great grandkids earn that money themselves or are they third generation tit suckers?

Depends on how they lead their lives and what good works they do with the money.

So far after 38 years and interaction with 3,000/4,000 clients plus 100s of other acquaintances, I probably only need one hand to count the folks with inherited wealth that grew what they inherited and did good works. Well maybe two hands.

My buddy's dad started Enterprise car leasing with the taylor family. The dad didnt let any of his kids tap into the fortune until they turned 40. Kids were standing on their own as strong, productive members of the community by the time they cashed in. I thought that was a good way to pass on wealth without creating monsters. One kid played soccer at smu. The other was a little person. He played D3 tennis. Very difficult to play against. Most shots you hit to him came back like an overhead spike. He could kick himself in the head with both feet. Crazy athletic

I try not to get too judgey with this stuff. I ain’t inherited shit and probably never will so I can’t really say what I’d do if someone left me a bag of cash. I don’t think I’d spend a lifetime doing jobs that I hate though. That’s for sure. And I’d retire early.

I was at a seminar years ago where the instructor explained he had a client who had a clause that money was paid dependent on clean drug tests and the trust made distributions matching what the kids earned on their own each year.

I'm now convinced there are days McM misses the back and forth of lawyering. So he finds a Doc post and away we go.
Ha. I'll tell you what i dont miss at all is having to kiss the asses of the Lars of the world!!

I think folks who inherit wealth can certainly retire to a nice life. I’d like to see them pick a few things to help their communities.

What I hope they don’t do is get on social media bragging on $160,000 cars, how wealthy they are and demean other folks.

All my most wealthy clients are self made and generous in their communities. Most are having difficulties with their children.

We have been very fortunate that a family business has given us the means to retire now if we wanted, & I always used to think about quitting working ASAP if I became wealthy enough, but then you start thinking about what kind of lessons to teach your kids & what you want to leave them. If you have a rewarding job, why not stay in it & secure their future as well is how we are approaching it, so we are going to work for a few years, but I like the idea of tying it to some goals for him as well. People without kids don’t have to worry about what they’re teaching them, much less leaving them. Often they’ll buy fancy cars to fill the void…

Love your attitude.

definitely sounds like a crisis.

It wouldn't be any attempt to sensationalize something for political purposes. Nope, not at all.

Maybe this will help you determine if it is a crisis or not.

Edit: I know the numbers are for FY19 but numerous articles state the most recent numbers from June of 188k and now July to reach 200k.

Agreed on all fronts!

The administration and their press Secretary say no crisis.
I know, but my point isn't to bash the spin. It's is get people to read and learn that we have a real problem on the border that is affecting how we handle Covid. I know there are vax deniers that are hurting the efforts. but that seems to be changing. https://www.msn.com/en-us/health/me...s-surge-data-shows/ar-AAMSxy1?ocid=entnewsntp

But some don't want to acknowledge that the border crisis is also contributing to the issue. In the past 2 months, almost 400k illegals have come from a country that has 1 out of 5 people fully vaccinated. And many, if not most, of those 400k are not from Mexico, but other Central American countries that have much lower vax rates. And those parts of the world have higher cases of the Lambda variant, which the vax, so far, does seem to be as effective in combatting.

Something to keep in perspective: Yes, there is a significant amount of illegal immigrants crossing the border, and this is a problem, but if it is true that the number of illegal immigrants is about 1 million people, and if 80% are not vaccinated, then that is the potential for 800,000 people now in this country that can spread the virus.

But when you compare that to the adult population of the United States (~253 million) and the fact that 30% are still not vaccinated, that means we are currently sitting on about 76 million unvaccinated Americans (in addition to the children who cannot currently take the vaccine). So I see a problem that is almost 100 times worse than the border issue (with regards to Covid).

I say let's get our crap together first on the big problem, and then deal with the smaller problems thereafter.

One problem we can stop at the border easily. We aren’t.

I agree with what you’re saying. For political reasons the Administration isn’t going to do much. In fact they deny there’s a crisis at the border.

Define "easily"?

Shoot to kill?

Technically, the Biden Administration or every state could mandate that everyone be forced to get the vaccine (outside of legitimate medical reasons not to). There is precedent in a Supreme Court case where it is perfectly legal to do so. I think that would be an "easy" answer.

It would be political overreach, and the political consequences would be dire next election cycle, but the US would be safer.

There are easy solutions, and there are political solutions, and often they are 100 percent in opposite directions.

Is the border issue directly related to anything biden's administration is doing? I highly doubt Biden is down there holding a door open and waving them to come on in.

Apprehensions are at a high but given the definition of apprehension, wouldn't that mean the border patrol is doing its job? I'm guessing it's not just a catch and release to the wild strategy going on at the border.

Short of putting machine gun eddy at the border and telling him to shoot anything that moves, not sure there is this easy button to the border issue.

It's more of an easy target to blame the administration. Maybe Biden should just fake that he is going to build a wall that mexico will pay for. Doesn't have to build very much, just claim that he is working on the wall.

This is despite the fact that Blue counties overwhelmingly have much higher population densities than Red counties, which makes it even worse. Republicans and their disastrous reaction to the Covid pandemic and vaccinations are simply beyond belief. They really are the laughing stock of the the world.

It's gotten so bad that Laura Ingraham had to cut off Trump shill Alan Dershowitz because he was making a rational legal argument that if you fly, you should be vaccinated.

What's hilarious is that Fox News has a mandatory vaccine requirement in their own offices. "Vaccine Passports". Yet these total losers are still trying to play the "Covid is no big deal" card.

It's pretty sickening that Fox (among other right wing rags) has directly KILLED God knows how many people with their "news" team. Wow...I am not religious, but if there is a god I appreciate him steering me towards getting a vaccination. Thank you Lord!
That’s because red counties have more freedom than communist/socialist/Marxist blue counties.

I think you are oversimplifying the border problem. It’s been a problem for decades and neither party has found a solution. Yes it is a mess now, but it’s kind of always been a mess. I don’t see the silver bullet to this one.

there's no precedent for a federal mandate. there's precedent for state mandates. the feds arguably could via the commerce clause and through the PHSA to prevent the spread between states but unless i'm missing something this has never been taken up

Yup, that was my understanding as well. It has never gone to court, and I'm sure that if they did, a few states would sue within hours. I guess what I was trying to say is that the Biden Admin "could" do it, as there is currently no law against it. It would be an interesting case to follow.

I know it’s Trump but border walls work and would help. It made no sense other than politics not to finish construction of the walls already contracted and started.

Things at least slowed down under Trump. Being nice isn’t going to solve the border issues.

To counter the charge it is Republicans who are the fault for increases in Covid some Coolerites point to Biden policies which have resulted in a huge increase in immigrants. Immigrants who bring the virus with them.

Governor Reynolds of Iowa which Trump carried in 2016 and 2020 agrees that Biden's immigration policies are partially to blame in the Covid increase.

The linked article in part states,

Iowa governor suggests immigrants partially to blame for rising COVID-19 cases"

Part of the problem is the southern border is open and we’ve got 88 countries that are coming across the border and they don’t have vaccines so none of them are vaccinated and they’re getting dispersed throughout the country," Reynolds said to reporters, according to the Des Moines Register.

He's not wrong. They are "partially" part of the problem.

It's just that they are 1% of the problem.

Have some facts there buddy or just another typical liberal ?
Ummm, see the post #142 above?

I mean, I admit that the numbers are not absolute, but it probably ranges from 0.75% to 1.25% depending on what the actual number of undocumented illegal immigrants who have entered this country and were not captured / sent back.

I have no problem admitting that it is a problem. I just have issue with people equating the two as equal in magnitude.
