IU has a coach right now. The BTT hasn't even started and the NCAA selections haven't been made either. IU isn't going to generate controversy and distractions for the university by addressing the coaching search or vacancy. While that makes total sense....it also makes total sense that the coaching change and buyout will happen in an efficient and timely manner, regardless of how this season concludes.
He is the most pure person in the world. Probably never even swore except on here.

On paper....Drew is a homerun hire......won a Natty, successful, long term coaching experience at the highest level, no disqualifying baggage. I understand the hype and motivation for Beard. He too qualifies as a homerun, with baggage. I think McCollum is right there, with a winning percentage of .818 over his career and multiple Div II titles. His long term, consistent winning ways puts him in the top tier, imo. Having said all of that....I would be surprised if the ultimate hire is any of those guys.
IU would take some initial press heat if they hire Beard. Let the PR team handle it, whatever.

I have zero idea of this info is credible but an interest in Beard does make sense on several levels. One is that IU is getting rid of a "good coach". To justify that, you need to replace him with a home run hire. Chris Beard is that level of a coach. Take a look at what he has been able to do with rosters that have lots of holes and little depth. He consistently gets everything out of each player and each team. The others mentioned on these message boards are safer but their ceiling isn't even close. He has done it at multiple places and he quickly builds a winning culture. The fact that he learned coaching from Coach Knight is a nice bonus too.
I get that no one truly knows what Scott Dolson is going to do.
I'm not worried about the beard hire any negative stuff would go away fast if he won. A few posters would have meltdowns but who cares. They got a personal vendetta against him anyway. And any of these clowns who say we want him because he is a knight guy I could care less. I just want a winner who will actually want to be here. I don't think archie actually ever wanted to be here
I guess I'm in fantasy land because I think Drew is coming. I have said it for weeks. I like Beard alot but Indiana won't hire him.
I will support anybody but it will be very hard to sell McCollum on the fanbase with a slow pace offense no team the last 10 years has won a championship without a adjusted offense as bad McCollum coaches you have to be good on both sides.

If IU strikes out on a decent number of head coaches...what does everyone think of considering an assistant coach like Luke Murray? Read up on his resume...it seems like he's a guy that's often instrumental in helping turn programs around...and has been hugely influential in Hurley's successes...

If McCollum can find the right mix of guys he's completely comfortable with while bringing in a savant/soon to be head coach (as an Offensive Coordinator) that he doesn't know all that well he might really be onto something...
Based on his current staff make up that type of approach doesn't seem to scare him... Looks to me like he's a guy who Coaches his offensive schemes based on the talent he's working with... Give him some better talent along with an Offensive "genius" as an Assistant and the future will be so bright we'll have to wear shades... 😉

I know what will win over fans: winning. Personally, I love a team that plays fiercely and clamps down on their opponent, and I believe you can win more than one way. I just know if everyone starts playing the same way, then that's more likely to become the formula you see. But, if we are winning B10 championships, and a NC and being nationally relevant, I know I'll support them if it's 39-38 and our average win margin is 1pt and I believe we'll have a very supportive fanbase. I think the bigger concern with that, isn't fans, but do players see that as a path that gets them to the NBA.
I don't think it's clear as to who we're hiring (aside from it sounding like it won't be Beard)...
I'm fine with McCollum because it sure looks like:
A) he can actually Coach and have what he's teaching translate to the floor and to W's...
B) he's most likely actually available versus several of the fantasy names out there.
With anyone we bring in (even that mythical Great White Whale, B.S.) I'd expect that they be given year One just to clean up the mess and get Their program up and running...
In year 2 we should expect to compete for a Big Ten Regular Season Championship and in year 3 a very deep run in the NCAA tournament...; from that point on Championship play is to be expected...
Now that's a tough job description...
Expecting anyone to come in and win big year one seems a big ask.. (and yeah I know what what Cignetti just did [finding another one of those types is a Big Ask]...)...

The more I dig into McCollum I’m going to bet he is a who he has as personnel offense type. If his recruiting gets better I bet he opens it up more.
Why? Louisville, UK and Michigan did it. Portal and a coach who knows the type he needs can win year one. I’d argue Michigan and Louisville were dumpster fires. IU is not.
What constitutes a "dumpster fire": new coach and virtually all new roster? That seems like UM and UL, and what we're likely gonna be next year.
The prior coaching staffs had degraded the program’s to 8-24 records and 30% ticket sales. Those two coaches had no rosters and little fan interest at all. Not the case for our next coach. You look at those programs and what those new coaches have done. Not sure why it's so hard to understand.
I run a manufacturing plant that hires disabled people, people that want to work but can't work at a conventional place. I also hire people in work release looking to rebuild their work history.
A recent hire (a first cousin to one of IU's best player in history) was arrested with news reports that he committed rape with a deadly weapon.You can search and find that original story complete with mugshot and jump to the conclusion he was guilty. He was guilty of a crime, but it wasn't rape. He has turned out to be a good worker, cooperative, and positive so far.
Like my employee, I would expect Beard will do everything possible to leave his past behind. Beard has more to lose if he ever does anything that resembles what has been reported.Also like my employee, his situation was over charged and over publicized.

Well the roster the next guy will be inheriting is made of guys who when they were starting combined for multiple double digit losses this past season... We're losses our starting C and the entire three Guard lineup who've put us back in the Tournament conversation...
If he stays, Reneu might be a guy you can build a winning roster around... Mgbako is erratic at best, the two All-Hype Guards are overrated and extremely overpaid, Tucker was a waste of a scholarship and everyone else is either a walk on or coming back off a season ending injury...
How anyone figures that's a nucleus for an early winner sort of confuses me... (but I hope they're right and I'm wrong)...

It's not, but we're really in the same spot as them. We're going to have a new coach and almost entirely new roster. We have great fans and I've always said that, but if a new coach bombs, even if we're better than UL or UM last year, it won't change the outcome for the new coach. We've got to go get an entirely new roster too. It's not a "dumpster fire" only because we have better fans and NIL.
