Reality check for the anti-Beard folks…

Beard or no Beard, it will get wild around here once Dolson makes the announcement. A good ol' "IU is holier-than-thou" vs. "How can IU hire a wife beater?" showdown.
Fox Tv Popcorn GIF by The Four
If we hire Beard there are a few posters that are mentally going to lose it. To them he is "wife beater" no matter what as they are morally superior to all of us. Hiring him would be comical just to watch them meltdown like two year olds.

There are more pro-Beard'ers out there, but it will be forum chaos either way. One side will have a meltdown, that's for sure.

There are lots of pro beard'ers from what I have seen. I don't know one person who is not on a message board who has said they would not want him. Most don't even have any idea about the stuff those that hate him go on and on about. I mean he probably isn't being hired anyway but and I honestly don't care if he is I am just pushing him because of the holier than thou crowd who is ready to tar and feather him. Not a fan of people like that in life.

Zero meltdown from me.

IU basketball has been such a turn off for the last 30 years that this will simply be the last straw. Will simply stop caring.

Not wanting someone who beat his wife to coach the college basketball team you root for doesn't make one holier than thou.

This isn’t true. You just turn a blind eye to it. People just ignore the information they have because he’s a knight guy who has won. That’s it.

In the unfortunate event that he is hired, his past transgressions will be brought almost simultaneously by the national media at the time of the announcement. Everyone will soon learn what piece of shit Chris Beard is, if they didn't already know.

And yes, many will shrug it off because winning basketball games is the #1 priority of them.

I think more people are getting tired of the culture in which someone can never recover from a mistake or an accusation. There is a sort of person who gets a thrill by trying to ensure that long-ago events are never forgotten. The internet and social media has given them a lot of power. But it's disgusting to watch. Let him without sin cast the stones, that approach would shut most of them up.

Being drunk in public or running a red light is a mistake. Hitting a woman isn't. I've never hit a woman in my life, and in the event I did, I'd never expect to be afforded the opportunity to hold a high profile job like coaching at IU.

But that's just me.

I have no idea what will happen but rest assured the same university that baited and set up Knight is fully capable of doing the same to Beard. He’s an easy target for many. One good pub crawl with a few DV abuse advocates with a sprinkling of a few man haters with phones will do him in.

Oh you’re an idiot. I’m telling all you holier than though people who say I would never hit a woman. Bullshit! If you were drunk and in a really bad mood and your girlfriend or wife kept nagging you over and over and then decided to hit you, you might hit back and to say you would never is a lie. You don’t know what you would do if in that situation.

How did Indiana University allegedly 'bait and set up' Bob Knight? Was Kent Harvey, the student who said 'What's up, Knight?' hired or influenced by the Board of Trustees? Did the Board anticipate that Knight would react by grabbing Harvey’s arm and scolding him about addressing adults properly?

If so, Trump needs to sign another Executive Order to get this information released.

No. I have no knowledge of that but have seen it posted. The only story I heard was the one that involved pats wife and the general drunkenness. There’s video of that(public drunkenness)and a story written about Beard drinking in the lobby during his final 4 run. My brother in law is an Ol Miss alum and has acknowledged Beards controversial hiring. There is some alum pushback with him and donations to not be earmarked for the BB program. This is all I’ve posted. The only thing I’ve said that has no backing is the Pat Knight stories. You are the one who got bent about it and lumped me into this.
Apologies if you didn't say that Pat Knight had to bail out Beard on more than one occassion. I was sure it was you, and I'm too tired of this silly discussion to go back and find it. You guys can't link stuff, so I don't feel the need.

Video of public drunkeness; where? The stupid one about the bball signing? Drinking during his Final 4 run, in a hotel lobby? Oh the humanity! What your BIL thinks is entirely inconsequential. I'll guarantee you, most Ole Miss donations aren't earmarked for the bball program: football school, that's where most donations go.

As I've told Kraft and Zeke: just say you personally don't like it and don't think he should be the coach. Period. That's fine. It's trying to fold in something you think is pertinent, or just an outright fabrication, to try and justify your feelings.

I will never ever condone putting hands on a women. So I understand the sentiment but I also understand that sometimes the details are different than the perception. I know someone whose ex-GF went nuts and came at him with a baseball bat. He blocked it and shoved her down and he went to jail. Tough situation for a guy in this

My gut started telling me Beard was not in the running and then a conversation I had a week or so ago solidified that. Maybe things will work out how they are supposed to. I think Scott will do a

no it shouldn't. Don't need to know, don't care. It can't be mentioned in the search and doesn't need to be here. What are their birth signs; that might be more relevant?
Don’t believe that’s true about Beard. He’s a W Texas boy

I hope they not only lose it, but hope more that we lose them permanently off this board. Gees, it’s never ending.

I never said I didn’t want him. You assumed that even after I told you. I specifically said those things because it’s what I’ve read, heard and saw. I also took the position of what I think Whitten, the BoT and Dolson might think. I never said what I thought of him. If you’re too emotional and lazy to go back and look then I’m not sure why you are still arguing. Some of those things posted have been around for a decade. Now Zeke takes on a different tone about it than I do.

It was Zeke...

And on which thread was the one with a guy who knew Pat Knight. Said he had to bail him out at TT a couple times. And the video that was posted. I think the preponderance of the evidence shows that he has an alcohol problem at the least. I’d imagine there are dozens of more stories out there.

You read like a guy who's done something really bad in his past and is overcompensating by being hyper pious on an easy social issue because you can't afford to have common sense anymore.

I think he is the same poster on another board I have read occasionally. If its the same guy he was totally losing it last night and making a complete fool of himself over beard. He was having a complete meltdown and calling beard " wife beater " over and over again.

Pretty sure he has a multimillion dollar job in his profession of choice. Bummer he hasn’t gotten a second chance lol

He did I think he was just saying is seems some people get off on trying to make sure people don't get a second chance. Its like it feeds their ego or something to try and keep somebody down on their luck after a mistake so they can feel more moral. I cant explain it really but they are all over social media and its really kind of sick honestly that people think like that.

It's nice you are holier than they are.

If Chris doesn't get the IU job, he'll have to keep coaching Ole Miss for $5 million per year. Poor guy, hopefully he can find some luck.

Do you know him personally? No! So to call him a piece of shit just shows how big a piece of shit you are. If you don’t know a person and see how a person is and go off what others say about a person doesn’t make him a piece of shit. Stop judging people a-hole.

E
She's a 6' ish former volleyball player who said she'd not disagree with Beard's description that it was self-defense. Have you ever seen a woman come totally unglued and attack someone? She's very likely going to get visible injuries. Tell me exactly how you are certain her injuries were from spousal abuse and not an altercation from self-defense? And, why you are a better judge of what happened, than I don't know, let's say the 2 people who were actually involved? It's unseemly for sure, but as I've said dozens of times: hire an investigator and see if all these other cases of abuse and drunken behavior exist. If they do: move on. If they don't and it's down to this 1 case, then you sit down and talk with him and see if he can convince you that he's remorseful and has made changes that reflect it (stopped drinking, AA and seeing the woman for instance). Again, if you're not convinced, move on and if you are, then consider him further as a candidate.
Exactly this fact- do due diligence. The Knight family is more in the know about Chris Beard than any of us and they back his hiring. It’s enough for me. You want to make an omelette you need to break some eggs. Let’s allow those without sin to cast the first stone lol guilty before innocent chotes!

Possibly met with him or are planning to do so soon. Again, they gave themselves an out saying it’s just what they are hearing. They said they each have different sources. They both thought Beard was also out and this news surprised them.
Click bait. If that's what people want I can give them all the bullsheet they want. I have more respect for our readers. I'm also not an attention whore.

It was a free X spaces. Us IU fans are starving for anything on this coaching search. Dolson's circle is keeping things really tight. I, for one, have been wanting Beard at IU since the last coaching cycle!

Those professors will all be wearing their vagina hats. Beard will spot them easily and be able to foil their plot.

I keep hearing this "wife beater" and "he beat his wife" plus "he attacked her" but yet in the police report and other accounts, nothing is there to prove he actually struck her, or did any of the "attacking". She said something along the lines of "I broke his glasses and things escalated from there" but that doesn't mean HE escalated things. Maybe he was trying to get away from her and there was only one way out? I'm not advocating for CB and I'm not condoning DV, but I keep hearing things that sound like conjecture or at the minimum, over-dramatic analysis.

You are missing the point. The opinion and judgment by certain people has already been made. You won’t change those perceptions. Those types of people exist and are usually the loudest.

Oh, I get that. I also get that perception is the driving force here. Just trying to keep things on an even keel here, which might be quite the task.

I cannot wait until we hire Chris Beard, he wins two national titles in first five years, starts a home for battered women- and drives those who act as if they are without any sin from our fanbase. It’s time to win- the oatmeal crew can worry about what car to drive out of town to find a new holier than thou hero of utter mediocrity for whom to root.

Someone will have to explain the "holier-than-thou" narrative to me. What hire, exactly, supports that bullshit? Did IU bring in Sister Jean at some point? I'm dying to hear the logic.

Dolson & Co. know more about candidates than we ever will, so sanctimony will have nothing to do with who's next up ... Beard or otherwise.

I think Beard would be great I still think Drew is the guy. But if Drew passes then TJ or Beard would be next in line.
I could support any of Drew, TJO, Beard, McCasland, or McCollum. I think Wade would kill it, but feels like the same patch as Sampson. But, I think we'll be VASTLY improved if we hire from that group.
