Back to your invasion of the body snatchers theme, Bannon developed a theory that a far right conservative could run up such huge margins in small town America they need not attract a single moderate/independent. And in 2016 it worked.

But in doing so, Trump's popularity caps out around 44-45%. As long as that 45% turns out religiously and normal voting happens with the rest, he wins.

The problem is that in really working hard to win Mas' vote, he drives a big wedge into the Twenty and Aloha votes. You blame them entirely. Nope, it is the game plan, Trump does not want their vote.

But the plan falls apart because at some point the rest of America is scared of rule by Mas. So the anti-Trump voting percentage goes way up too.

Name one thing Trump said last night to try and reach out to moderates. Was it the 2 minute Orban infomercial?

So people saw a problem with Biden which depressed his support. Bannon's plan was back on. Biden drops. People may not love Harris, but she was clearly better than Biden. The convention went well, she and her surrogates did a good job of being on message. They see that Trump now seems old and cranky and play to that.

Bloomington's longest opened pizza place closed a month ago and in a lot of conversations with one of the owners he frequently said he could not hire enough people to stay open. He needed like 26 employees, he had like 13. I really believe that is why they closed. And I know other businesses with similar problems.

Neither side has this right. I don't give a care if people coming in are Haitian, Nigerian, Pakistani, or Swedish. But for some reason we don't demonize Melania's family with made up stories about stealing and eating pets. Any ideas why?

Also, those are higher end jobs where people have the ability to quit, retire early, and etc more than a pizza maker. Lastly, what do you think allowing in 10-15 million poor immigrants going to do to the issue? 1st and 2nd generation immigrants walking across the border or coming from Haiti aren’t going to become doctors anytime soon. We begin with the fact that just a few months ago, Harris was the least popular VP in history and there was serious talk urging Biden to dump her. Prior to that, she couldn’t even manage to get out of the starting gate in the 2020 Democratic primary. Now she will likely be the next president.

How did this happen?

We saw it in real time.

This election is not Trump v. Harris. It’s The System on the one hand, and the people on the other. The System is big government, big media, social media, big tech, big education, big NGO, and big corporate all working in simpatico. Not too long ago, these institutions operated as a self correcting check and balance. Now there isn’t. We have policy without meaningful review or accountability. Thus we have an impossible fiscal situation, third world conditions, bad education for those who need good education the most, violence, drugs, and the rest. There is no other reasonable explanation for the meteoric rise of Kamala in just a couple of months other than The System pushing her. She hasn’t changed. The System changed our view of her.

On the other hand we have Trump. He certainly has baggage. But he also has a striking number of positive policy initiatives that ought to be important, but aren’t. He has a self- destructive behavior pattern. But more importantly, The System exploits, exaggerates, and even lies about him, leaving The System’s chosen candidate without an effective opponent.

I like independence. I wish we had a different champion than Trump. But we don’t. Kamala is too high of a price to let The System in.

I have no reason to change my view I posted months ago that the odds do not favor Trump becoming the next president. A couple of random thoughts about what comes next.

After campaigning hard on Fascist/Nazi/Hitler ( with a dose of garbage thrown in) I don’t see how that can be walked back to the end that the country can ever come together again. At least Kamala won’t be in a position to lighten up on that. Sure, she might adopt a condescending tone, but that will only worsen the divide. .

I remain convinced that she would be the weakest, dumbest person to ever hold the office (An opinion held by many just a few months ago) . What would that mean? Nature abhors a vacuum. To fill the void at the top, influencers, wealth, lobbyists, unaccountable bureaucrats, advisors, military industrial complex, big media, big tech, big whatever will fill the void. The resulting structure would be unbreakable and the world would see a new “ism” unlike what has come before. The guardrails established through traditions, federalism, separation of powers, free expression, individualism, and a press which speaks truth to government power, will be supplanted by obedience , group think and government becoming a security blanket. Some of that is already evident. In simple terms, the swamp will be bigger deeper and more smelly.

Optimistically we can always count on visionaries, risk takers, and entrepreneurs to do their thing. That will often require bigger government. But even that has limits. Some swamp creatures want to prosecute Musk.

What's left of the mainstream media is out for clicks and TV ratings at the end of the day and owned by gigantic global corporations. Harris is new and people want to know about her. The current version of Trump has been campaigning since 2015 and that show is getting old.

And anyone who just blames the media for it is minimizing that:

1. Kamala Harris has performed better than even what Dems were hoping for.
2. The Harris/Walz campaign (with a lot of people Biden hired) has ran an excellent campaign over the last 40 days
3. Trump's made a lot of mistakes by being undisciplined, picking JD Vance as VP, and hasn't been able to get a line of attack to stick to Harris yet since he's throwing 50 things at the wall at any given time.

If this was entirely manufactured there wouldn't be this level of Democrat excitement from Bernie Bros to Joe Manchin Dems. Tons of people are excited who don't consume MSM stuff at all (including me).

I know whining about traditional media being biased is straight out of Rush Limbaugh's playbook to work the refs. Republicans from Reagan with his jelly bean jar or Dubya getting the media to cheerlead hard for the Iraq War, to them obsessing over a CNBC anchor's rant igniting the Tea Party (with lots of astroturfing help), to Trump in 2015 & 2016 all have been able to manipulate the media successfully.

Update to Random musings

I have no reason to change my view I posted months ago that the odds do not favor Trump becoming the next president. A couple of random thoughts about what comes next.

After campaigning hard on Fascist/Nazi/Hitler ( with a dose of garbage thrown in) I don’t see how that can be walked back to the end that the country can ever come together again. At least Kamala won’t be in a position to lighten up on that. Sure, she might adopt a condescending tone, but that will only worsen the divide. .

I remain convinced that she would be the weakest, dumbest person to ever hold the office (An opinion held by many just a few months ago) . What would that mean? Nature abhors a vacuum. To fill the void at the top, influencers, wealth, lobbyists, unaccountable bureaucrats, advisors, military industrial complex, big media, big tech, big whatever will fill the void. The resulting structure would be unbreakable and the world would see a new “ism” unlike what has come before. The guardrails established through traditions, federalism, separation of powers, free expression, individualism, and a press which speaks truth to government power, will be supplanted by obedience , group think and government becoming a security blanket. Some of that is already evident. In simple terms, the swamp will be bigger deeper and more smelly.

Optimistically we can always count on visionaries, risk takers, and entrepreneurs to do their thing. That will often require bigger government. But even that has limits. Some swamp creatures want to prosecute Musk.

Well, there is only one major candidate who hasn't sexually assaulted multiple women, betrayed our nation by inciting insurrection, been convicted of multiple felonies, been found liable of unethical business practices, stolen confidential documents from the federal government, interfered in a US Presidential election....

I’m surprised that you would cite the Kavanaugh hearings as an example of congressional maturity and intelligence. The hearing was shameful and Harris was involved up to her mascara. She was unnecessarily combative and petty. She didn’t show any evidence of being a smart, clever, or mature. She made a fool of herself as she disrupted the proceedings. IIRC she read every question, we don’t know if she drafted them.

Her polls in California were a disaster when she dropped her presidential campaign. She had no money, no support, and no votes. Thats a tell. As late as the summer of 2024 Democrats were wondering if Biden should dump her. The crowning blow of course is her remarkable inability to ever say anything of substance during this campaign or give a cogent answer to the simplest questions.

Her bragging about prosecuting cartels and international criminals is crazy on its face. doesn't have the tools to prosecute a speeding ticket.
