Whether Griner shouted “fcking white girl” at Catlin Clark is open for debate.

For debate purposes let’s say she did. Can a black person actually shout a racist comment to a white person?

I’ve always assumed there’s nothing a black person can say to any other human that would be racist.

Isn’t truth or honesty a “defense?”

Now, if she had said “dead honky” that might be different. But, maybe not.

no, anything that goes against a black person is rooted in racism. a black person cannot be racist no matter what they say or do.

i have a brilliant idea that won't go over well but would go through the roof for ratings. i was watching about 20 minutes of one of these NWSL games. it was appalling. however if you had the games set up like mystery science theatre 3000 it would be absolutely hilarious and people would watch.

If that's got to do with soccer, then that's a no dawg.

I was at a legal conference last week, with attendees from all over the world. The overtly racist comments from Chinese attorneys was rather surprising.
I used to play an online battle game that had "alliances" or groups of people on teams that competed with each other. The Korean alliances were legit racist to the point that they wouldn't accept anyone in the game who wasn't ROK and would throw the N word around at anyone who was American. It was wild to watch them all come together over a couple of months and just wear everyone else out to force them to quit. They were super brutal in the chat to Japanese players. Centuries of animosity there.

This is where we lose our first amendment rights. It starts with one word. If they didn’t act like that they wouldn’t be called that name.

Fortunately, I was playing a game developed by a private company with their own Ts & Cs to which we all agreed. The .gov had nothing to do with it, so my 1A rights were never even in the mix.

1. It's the WNBA. Nobody cares. The renewed efforts to make this league into something people care about is hilarious. They even roped in Bill Simmons somehow.

2. Is "white girl" a slur? An insult? I don't get it. If someone said "man, that ****ing black girl" would that be a racial slur? I don't think it is.

3. Yes, Griner seems like an entitled whiner who is probably stupid enough to believe that black people can't be racist. But again, who cares?

It's crazy how provincial people are about America vs. the rest of the world on the subject of racism. It's a huge blind spot for the hard woke left.

I think it is nothing more than a difference of opinion on the definition of racism.

Some limit racism to being something a majority says against a minority and thus it isn't the correct term in reverse. Probably would go with the word bigot or something else for those instances.

That difference in opinion on the application of the term racism isn't saying it is ok for minorities to attack people (verbally or physically) based on their race. I think most people on both sides of this disagreement think it is wrong either direction regardless of what we call it.

It now outperforms the NHL, MLS, IndyCar and is closing in on NASCAR in terms of TV ratings. I don't watch it, but to suggest 'nobody cares' because you don't watch it is, frankly dumb and surprising, coming from you.

Have a hard time thinking Grinder saying, "****ing white girl" isn't simply an example of frustration after having fouled out.

On the other hand, one explanation for Griner's outburst (which might be called a racial slur) may be the feeling that all the hoopla surrounding Clark has a lot to do with her being white. Thus, her skin color is important to her having such a large fan base.

On a personal level, am looking forward to the day when Clark is recognized by fans and players of all skin colors as a great team player, a good person, and a highly skilled player.

Kraft, your observation bringsi up a good point. Just how should players and coaches complain about referee calls?

Coaches asking for replays in the Knicks- Pacers series has had some game changing reversals.

In the past, my philosophy was for coaches and players to shrug off poor calls as part of the game and move on. Am now thinking complaints and replays have their place.

P.S. Clark is a bit of a whiner at times and she usually appears to have a good reason to be complaining.

Not sure I follow. As for my recent experience with Chinese attorneys who purportedly work a lot with American firms and their clients, I was surprised more by how they overtly expressed their racist views to me than the fact that they were racist.

There is an entitlement in basketball among some black players that they are inherently better than white players, especially from those who grew up playing with mostly other black players in the city. (Not that you have to be from the inner city, just play in the city.) They especially feel like they can bully a white player on the court. It fades pretty quickly when they realize a player can hold their own.

You hear it in discussions surrounding Larry Bird's rise through college and entrance into the NBA. To many black players, he had to earn their respect as a white player. He, of course, gave zero F's about that and was so good, so soon, it faded quickly, and in the meantime he told anyone he different.

Of course one of the more famous stories Bird tells is how offended he was during his NBA days when the opposing team put a white guy on him.

Griner is finding out that Clark is more than just a shooter when it comes to scoring.

I don't find it offensive, but it's not a particularly smart thing to say.
