Purdue vs Maryland

Terrible take, I guarantee we would love to be in the same position as PU as a program the last 10 years vs where we are.
Tom Crean is available. Those results were thoroughly rejected at IU, and most IU fans wanted Crean gone earlier.

I think we have learned a coach should only get 3-4 years to show they are special, especially now with NIL and the transfer portal. If they aren't, cut bait and try somebody else.

They make a run this year and they look like a very good program the last 6-8 years. They are by far the best team in the country. If they do t shit their pants in tourney they will win it all
Painter has made one run, and it wasn't even to a final four. The odds are way more likely that Painter and Purdue crap the bed when it matters: it is what they do. They almost lost to Illinois without Shannon at home last night.

Purdue has not been to a final four in my lifetime.

Ok but like I said they are the best team in the country and probably have been the last two years. I hope they do crap the bed in the tournament but I honestly think this year they do go to final 4

There are a few constants in life: death, taxes, and PU crapping the bed when it counts. You can count on them blowing it. No program in history has ever lost to three double digit seeds in a row in the NCAAT: this is historically awful performance.

FDU's back court was way better than PU. PU's back court is nothing special.

Painter is an awful NCAA tournament coach and has experienced historic lows. PU is going to need a new coach and a program overhaul if they ever want to "get up for those games." PU is the program that focuses on non-March games. There is a lot of emphasis on "winning November and December," and there are a lot of chants about IU during non-IU games.
PU is the program that focuses on November? Interesting. Didn’t IU bring back some 30 plus old dude this year to recreate a shot on taken in November on an empty floor from over 10 years ago and made it some huge event? Somebody should tell your entire AD and marketing department that November games don’t matter.

Good call. The only reason Virginia hasn’t is because they missed the tournament in 2022.

PU should have to play in the D-2 or D-3 tourneys. However, the teams would still be better than FDU.
So if IU and its fans only care about March success why did they build their entire kick off event around a shot taken in November. Ironically, against a team who blew out IU in March…which is what you say is what matters? Somebody in the IU sports marketing dept. isn’t getting your message about “it’s March that matters.” Lots and lots of IU fans screaming to watch a 30 plus year old hit an uncontested fake shot from a November game 10 plus years ago.

Sounds a little bit like Painter, right? Focus on the front court, back court not as good (minus JHS). I wouldn't keep Painter around for 20 years, especially after chronically crapping the bed against mid-majors and #16 seeds. Woody is still 3-1 against Matt: at least he can get the squad up for the PUkes.
So you wouldn't keep a coach that has had his team ranked number one 3 straight years? Since Knight's justified firing, how many IU coaches have done that? IU annual goal now is to make the tournament.

Purdue is king of downplaying March failures while resorting to regular season triumphs. You dolts tried to talk your way into thinking November wins against Duke and Gonzaga last year had more impact than your loss to FDU.
Aren't IU fans still reliving the shot to beat KY? How long ago was that? Of course Ky's best player sat a lot at that game it was at IU. Purdue beat the number 9 team in the country. The state of the IU program would dictate rushing the floor. Like you did beating Purdue last year. Living on ancient history, titles Purdue doesn't have, is reasonable but it's been 37 years.
Look right now Purdue is better. They lose Edey and we will see how they adapt to the that. They don't have the rated talent IU does but somehow a kid ranked 436 has developed into the top player in the country. Like Painter or not he's done something right. And dont forget Crean had IU the best team in the country And lost in the SS.
Sampson , Crean, Miller, and Woodson combined made the SS.
Maybe that changes.

And this is where you show your true Purdue colors. IU has been TERRIBLE post-Knight given program standards and Purdue in the same time frame has only been marginally better in the postseason. Purdue has one E8 since Knight has been fired and these c***suckers would lead you to believe they are a top 5 program nationally (because they’ve been better than IU and their entire existence as an athletic program is based on Indiana). Indiana is Purdue’s pedestal; their barometer of success is being better than IU.

You’re a younger IU fan. You have ZERO clue what it’s like to see Indiana as an elite program. 75% of the posters on here don’t either including all the half whit Purdue posters who post on here as well. This is Purdue’s golden age and they somehow make a mockery out of themselves with each passing tournament.
I'm plenty old enough. I watched Purdue lose to UCLA in the final game on tv. I was at the 80' FF. I watched IU win 3. I guess I qualify.
IU' standard these days is to make the tournament. And you'd have a hard time arguing that. They used to be great. We both agree. Since Knight left IU has been pretty much a regular basketball team. 2002 and the year Crean lost in the SS to Syracuse are the exceptions.
Purdue has been a national power the last 3 seasons. They will have to do it a lot more to gain anywhere close to what IU used to be.
Currently there really isn't much comparison. Purdue's program has been better. Yes, IU had 2 players drafted last year. They have 3 five star players on the current roster. So maybe better talent but certainly not a better team. It's cyclical so
Maybe that eventually changes.

It's quite possible you weren't alive for IU's last title it's been 37 years.
And I was at the FF in 80'.

Tom Crean got fired, so no.

You understand you're only playing with yourself when you post eight times in a row, right?

Nobody in history was alive for PU's last title, not even cavemen.

And this is where the delusion sets in….NO NATIONAL POWER LOSES TO NORTH TEXAS, ST PETER’S, AND FAIRLEIGH DICKINSON IN THREE CONSECUTIVE TOURNAMENTS (nor does being better than a decidedly average IU team whom you haven’t beat in almost two years). National powers don’t measure their junk size in Maui Invitational Championships and December AP rankings. Not one person outside the Purdue bubble considers Purdue a national power.

Amen. If you get you consistently get your ass kicked by mid majors when it matters, you are historically bad. Try the NAIA tourney, or have some self-respect and try a different coach.

True but quite a few IU fans weren't alive for IU's last title. Damn near ancient history.

What does that say about PU with 0 titles that constantly craps the bed when it counts and has made it crystal clear that March doesn't matter? Strange you want to talk about this.

I’ve forgotten more good basketball in the 65 years I’ve been watching Indiana basketball than any living Purdue fan has ever seen. Purdue has won two tournament games in the last 5 years and you just called them a national power. Get the **** out of here.

Can you please list the national powers? I just want to know who they are

I do agree. Painter has a history of crapping the bed when he plays higher rated teams in the tournament. Happens more than anything else. Higher rated as in Purdue is a 4 seed and he’s playing a 1 seed.

This sounds good on a message board, but who’s paying for this? IU boosters had to come up with $15M to get rid of the last 2 coaches. I understand that’s chump change for some - but still cuts in to the private jet budget. Texas AM paid $72M to get rid of a coach, $32M for a new one and $30M on NIL deals. And they’re still 7-6! I’m hoping the “buy a team” fad fails miserably and teams that build a program brick by brick prevail over the long haul.

Painter has lost a #1 seed twice since 2010. He’s lost to FIVE double-digit seeds in the same time frame.

Shut your mouth child.

I said they've been for 3 years. Read.

A friend and I where watching the Purdue game and he asked me who on Purdue's team was from Indiana. A fair number if them is the answer.

The Indiana players on Purdue's roster looked pretty good against #9 ILL last night.

You don't have a clue what you're talking about. You're not even right about the Wat shot. Wasn't November. Go home lil fella. At least learn how to talk coherent smack before returning.

That was an example. I didn’t literally mean a 1 seed. His norm is lose to higher seeds

None of them are good enough for iu though.

Uh. More than just students. And these are the big brother knowledgeables rushing the court for their 5 minutes of fame over the last several years of basketball.

And if IU is so much more significant why is it Purdue gets the invites to the biggest pre-season tournaments? Somebody doing the picking must know something. Maybe they don’t want 3 blowouts? Wait, I think basketball blue blood Auburn just scored again. Oh, maybe IU is just keeping their schedule open to play another 300+ KenPom and win by single digits. Good news Army just beat Merchant Marines (this is real) by 8. That should help your NET rating.
No, it was about a quarter of the 8K students in TAH. Let them have fun, they don't know any better. Good to see you focused on IU though. It defines you.

Some of them are. IU obviously recruited Kaufman aggressively. Smith was at Assembly Hall so many times, I thought he might be coming. That said, I don't know how hard IU worked to get him. Gillis, pass. First, just another kid who used superior size to dominate IHSAA class 2a. Loyer, he fits his situation well and he's almost Duke like in his ability to flop.

So yeah, I'd be happy with Kaufman and Smith.

So this is ok, but when students yell iu sucks on kickoffs, it’s because they are obsessed. lol can’t have it both ways.

Gillis is a solid role player. Brings toughness and rebounding. Loyer lacks the physicality to play in the big ten imo. Partially why I believe a guy like Harris or Benter can push for his minutes next year. Or Colvin works hard and develops. He has the most raw potential of anyone right now.

IU beat a good team and a rival, they did the same with KY. Both of whom they were PLAYING AT THAT MOMENT

Hardly comparable to pu grads of all ages chanting IU sucks at all games and bars... the vast majority of which are not vs IU.

Let alone dozens of them living on the IU forum. Like you

So I have a question for you then - if IU beats Purdue again at home next week - do they rush the floor again? I think the answer is yes
