No you don't get it. Archie knows more about recruiting and building a roster. If I had to guess, I would say he is going to see if the last of his recruiting targets will sign before he uses a scholarship on a grad transfer.
The worst thing to do in recruiting is to panic and sign players that won't help at the expense of waiting on those that could have helped more than one year.

I believe that there is a logical contradiction here. According to the post, Painter has gotten the talent to get to a FF, but has not gotten to it. Yet despite getting the necessary talent, "...he sucks at recruiting." I always thought lawyers were supposed to make logical arguments but I guess Jimbo proves that is a false assumption.
Painter is a good recruiter, getting the hard nosed, tenacious players that fit into Mean Gene’s “family” concept he always promoted. Painter’s brother is an attorney so I imagine Matt’s immediate gene pool has some smart in it and is at least a decent sideline coach. His problem with not getting more elite players to (as yet) break through to banner raising proportions probably stems from the fact, “It’s Purdue!”. There are reasons it’s never been said that I need not get into because IU fans already know.
You may/may not be correct in your post. However, that has nothing to do with the logical contradiction found in the referenced post.

How many 5*, elite prospects has Painter landed? One, who was a legacy? Painter has recruited "well enough" by the standards of Wichita State, VCU, Loyola Chicago, Texas Tech, etc.: those guys didn't bring in 5*, elite prospects, yet made it to FF's. If VCU can reach a FF, then why in the hell can't Painter?

Thank you. I was apologizing for not remaining focused on your point. To be honest, you got me head scratching at “logical contradiction”, a term I haven’t come across hereto very often so I just started spewing whatever I thought was halfway related to Painter and his recruiting ability or lack thereof. Understand, I got my degree in higher learned behavior from a well known party school.
Post whatever you need to make yourself feel better but I think it's a little odd to make fun of any clean coach for not landing more 5* players at a time when we are finding out a good deal of them are bought and paid for.
IMO you pay too much attention to stars. Now painter recruits well (over half his recruits are 4* by at least 1 recruiting service) but he recruits more to fit his system. If stars were all that mattered then Painter wouldn't have more sweet 16s in the last 11 years than IU has tournament appearances with their 23 4 and 5 star players (just on rivals) over that same amount of time.
Also IMO you're overlooking the luck it takes to go to final four. The teams you mentioned minus Texas tech didn't have the talent to make the tournament if they played in a big conference but had things break their way once they got there. The clear best team in college basketball this year was Duke but they got beat by a msu team that was down a couple rotation players. Indiana had the best team the year you guys ran into Syracuse. Those things happen and they've happened to the teams that painter has had with the best chance to get there (Hummel's ACL twice / Hass's elbow). On the flip side of that the least talented team Painter has had in a sweet 16 was this year and it turned out to be the one who was 5 seconds away from getting to the final four.
To use your logic and wording since you used VCU in that last sentence "If Shaka Smart can get to a final 4 at VCU, then why the hell cant he even win a NCAA tournament game at Texas?"
Painter must not want to go to the Final Four or he would leave Purdue. Painter knows he can't recruit Final Four talent at Purdue.
He has no ethics and his viewpoints shift to whatever narrative he's trying to push.
Turnips have more integrity and better reasoning.
